Its a good midland NOAA weather radio but its not a wr120b its a wr120dsp the newest version of the wr120’s. I got a monthly test on it so it works!

Love I brought one of these for my daughter she is young and lives on her own. We had a power outage and she was like I have know way of knowing what the weather is like. This scares me like when my older brother was young making me feel like I can’t sleep tonight. Cuz I don’t know if I need to get the cat and dog and take cover. So I look up items and this was great for reviews and long behold her older brother has the same one too. I was so impressed that I ordered one for myself cuz you never know! I use mine everyday to listen to the weather reports before bed. But it beats watching the TV

This radio important capabilities. Programming for surrounding counties allows for proactive advanced weather warnings on incoming storms and weather conditions; a must if you're living in a place where active and dangerous weather conditions roll in from out of nowhere. It also features different customizable ways of notifying you of incoming weather changes. The easy to read directions provide answers to its programming and operational capabilities. A true "must have" for staying on top of the weather!

I’m very happy with this NOAA weather radio. I received the weekly test alert exactly as expected, which gave me confidence that the alert system is working properly. It keeps me updated with weather information and emergency alerts in my area, and I like knowing that I can rely on it to notify me when there is something I need to be aware of. It was easy to set up, the reception is clear, and so far it has been working great.

I live in Muskogee, Oklahoma. We had a tornado touch down here on a Wednesday at about 11pm and our early sirens didn’t alert the area affected. I slept through the entire thing.
I ordered this product the very next day. It delivered on a Friday and I set it up (it’s not that easy).
That night, it loudly alerted me that there were severe thunderstorms on the way to my area.
I feel like it’s already paid for itself and I may buy a couple more for my loved ones.

Works great! Bought it after watching a video that mentioned a woman in Joplin didn't receive her cell phone alerts until 2 hrs AFTER the tornado had already went through town. We also recently took it on a trip to Kentucky with us. Reprogramming for the locale was quick & easy. We actually had a tornado warning while we were staying there and the radio worked great; early warned us. Very glad we had it on the trip.

Works perfectly. Easy to use but a bit challenging to program which is why weather stations continually offer to set this unit up for people at events they have. The display is easy to read but often has stopped displaying the message by the time we get to the unit to see what is going off and why. We replaced our 3yr old midland identical unit due to the cord going out on it, we did not know if it was the unit or cord. Turns out to be the cord but would cost us to return it because the free ship allowed us to buy one other small thing and if we returned this, we'd be stuck paying ship on the small item. So stuck keeping the new one when all it needed was a new power cord. Not impressed that it did not last better. It is not at all user friendly to program and we got through it again on the new unit, but it is a pain. So, I took off a star due to the company does not even seem to expect it to last as they want you to purchase a warranty on their website. Portable easily.

Extremely easy to program. Just select your language, country, state, etc., county. Then select best channel reception. Easy peasy. A 💯% must have for everyone. Great product. Great price. Fast delivery.

I purchased this radio/alarm for some peace of mind as we live in “tornado death alley” where most severe weather occurs in the middle of the night and catches people sleeping. Last night was our first big storm of the season, and the alarm did well in waking us in the middle of the night with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. I like that you can program multiple counties, so we receive alerts for surrounding areas. I also appreciate the battery-powered function and that we can eventually mount it on the wall.

UPDATE: BAD RECEPTION Message Explained
If the WR120B has not received any alert from the National Weather Service in the prior 10 days, the WR120B will generate a "BAD RECEPTION" message, all LED lights will flash, and the radio will beep. This isn't *necessarily* bad reception but can happen if the National Weather Service has not sent a S.A.M.E. message in the past 10 days. This can happen if the NWS chooses not to transmit the Required Weekly Test for a given week. You can stop the beeping and the flashing lights by flipping the switch on the right side from ON to OFF to ON. If you suspect your radio is glitching, you could also perform a factory reset (remove power cord, remove one battery, hold WEATHER/SNOOZE button down, reinsert battery, reinsert power cord).
***
INVALID LOCATION error message occurs after a valid Required Weekly Test has been received, but the SET LOCATION county you have programmed in your radio is not among the locations included in the S.A.M.E. digital preample sent by the NWR transmitter frequency you have selected in SET CHANNEL. Change channel to a transmitter that encodes the county you have in SET LOCATION. Alternatively, you can change SET LOCATION to ANY, and you will receive alerts for all counties included by channel.

For any qualified NOAA weather radio, look for icons "Public Alert" and "All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio" on the unit. The Midland WR120 model currently being sold new in the U.S. in 2025 (per the label on the back of the unit) is the WR120-DSP, with box packaging WR120B. The WR120-DSP includes the "ALERT VOLUME" menu which provides 3 volume levels, low, medium, and high. The switch on the side is labeled "Weather Radio" and you must leave this ON to receive any alert and to manually hear the weather station at all. It comes with an AC/DC 9V adapter and 5 ft power cord. I would rank this radio #1 as a dedicated "set it and forget it" desktop weather radio with S.A.M.E. and customizable alerts.
Reception is very location-specific, both in terms of distance from NOAA radio towers and where your place the radio in your house. Press the WEATHER/SNOOZE button to listen to the weather radio. Find a spot in your room and orient your antennna such that the reception has little to no static and the NOAA indicator is solid and doesn't flash. The built-in telescoping antenna may not work well for everyone, it didn't for me. (FYI, the bars on the upper right of the display indicate weather radio volume level, not radio signal reception level.) I was able to improve my reception by plugging a 5-ft RCA cable into the external antenna jack. It acts as a wire antenna. No more flashing NOAA indicator!
After you have your radio in a good spot with good reception, I highly recommend you enable the Required Weekly Test confirm your setup and reception. This advisory alert is usually sent twice on Wednesday, around 10am and 6pm. All alerts have a timeframe set by NOAA for how long they are in effect until they expire. In the case for the Required Weekly Test alert, the yellow Advisory LED light will remain lit for several hours and then go out - this is normal, cannot be manually turned off, but will go off after an alert-specific purge time has expired, and allows you to see it (in case you were not home) and review the text (up/down arrows) of all recent alerts that have not yet expired.

I really like the radio but not happy with the damaged box that the radio came in! (see picture)

After getting hit with two tornado warnings in one night—and more the next—I bought this Midland weather radio for peace of mind. It's incredibly easy to use, lightweight, and super sensitive when it comes to storm alerts. It powers through batteries or plugs in, and the alerts come in faster than my phone ever does. No, it doesn’t have Bluetooth or charge your phone, but that’s not what it’s for. It’s a reliable, dedicated tool for weather emergencies, and I’m glad I have it now.

Good product. Fairly easy to setup. Will definitely buy again.

Nice weather alert radio to keep you aware of storms coming near you.

Reliable unit! You can listen to the weather anytime you want. If you’re not listening to the radio, weather alerts still come in that starts with an alarm sound, then proceeds with the weather alert message (as long as the switch on the side is set on “On”). The message is audible (spoken in English, Spanish, or French… whichever language you initially set it up with), and dedicated lights illuminate on the unit that match the type of alert. The unit is pretty easy to set up following the instructions. I like how multiple locations can be added. I also like that 3 AA batteries can be used as backup power (convenient to transport if you want to take it with you, like I took mine to the basement recently during a storm). The only “con” is that I needed to get an external antenna so the reception was more clear/less static. The video I included was captured during an alert. Note that the Coax-BNC-to-RCA adapters shown in the video are not included! I added this in order to hook up an external antenna, as the unit requires an antenna with a male RCA connector. (If you choose to add an antenna). (Note: I have the volume set to the lowest setting)

Needed a backup for when lord goes out and emergency radio. Looks very good and set up was real easy..

1. Brand new batteries lasted about 24 hours so has to be plugged in. It drains new batteries even when plugged in.
2. I did all the settings and today it reset again so had to do settings again. Annoying.
3. It’s been plugged in since day two which had been weeks now. Battery shows low. How is that possible if it’s always plugged in?
3. I have no idea if it’s working. I heard a beep once. All lights flashing continuously but no idea why. Not sure if this is actually working or not.
4. It shows bad reception. Not sure what to do. I get good phone service so not sure what the issue is. Even have antenna up.

Works as it should and is a get investment living in Tx with all the tornados!

This weather radio works great in Puerto Rico and broadcast in both languages English and Spanish alternating, very easy to set up, just get the frequency code from your location on the NWS and that is.
Awesome quality.
rock asis
it picks up local channels clear and strong. easy to setup too. absolutely works.
not like the cheap Retekess TR625 which you will love if you like listening to all static.
you get what you pay for
DiodeGoneWild
I like how it can decode the incomming EAS messages when there is a severe weather alert and allows you to hear the voice message after the alarm beeping. Really cool! Works as intended and the built quality overall is great! Would totally recommend!
In the video posted along with this review, I decided to show a little something about this NOAA weather radio and how the emergency alert works.

TO EVERYONE WHO IS WONDERING IF IT HAS A TORNADO WARNING: IT DOES! IT IS JUST NOT LISTED IN THE DISPLAY OF EDITABLE EVENTS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO TURN IT OFF. I had trouble figuring that out and asked them for a written confirmation which they provided, along with the attached list of editable events. SEE PHOTOS ATTACHED. It would be easier to figure it out if they had displayed Tornado Warning as an event and then noted that they revented you from turning it off. But instead, they just did not show it on the display at all. BUT IT IS THERE BUILT INTO THE RADIO. THE RADIO HAS A BUILT IN TORNADO WARNING. Hope that makes sense. :-)

This is how well it worked when there was a severe thunderstorm in my area. Can’t understand a thing it is saying. I have 4 bars of reception. How can I trust this device to help me during emergencies?

I purchased this radio, the wr120, based on the information contained in the graphic in the photo attached. It does not have an AM FM receiver. I did test out the rest of the radio, and it appears to be great as far as it goes. However I need the AM FM as well. Returned.

Very easy to setup and program. Every household should have at least one of these radios in an area close enough that if an alert is issued in the middle of the night, it will wake you up.

Great quality & value. The siren is extremely loud and distinct. You can change the watches and warnings your want to receive alerts for, but there are some that CANNOT BE DISABLED, such as a tornado warning. I chose to disable all alerts possible so we know for sure that when the alarm sounds, it's serious and we need to take cover immediately. The video has a sample of the alarm sound & a quick run down of the basic features. This model is very simple & easy to use.
Reading the 1-star reviews makes me wonder if there might be instances where the weather radio switch is in the off positition or if people were unable to find "tornado warning" in the alert settings, leading them to believe that it wasn't an option. It isn't listed in the settings because it cannot be disabled. Warnings for the most severe weather events cannot be disabled. Should I say it again?
Miguel♥Rosas
The radio has several setting for the alerts, but you cannot select the type of alert (visual only, tone, or tone/voice) for a specific type of alert, so the lightning and thunderstorm alerts trigger the loud alert tone the same as a hurricane or tornado, so you end up setting the alert to visual only to avoid walking up in a panic 😱 , which tends to defeat the purpose. I wish weather radios could allow you to select the emergency for which you need a tone alert, and which ones you can get by with just a silent visual alert.
Tobias Wolf
Seriously, I have to wonder if the negative reviewers saying this radio doesn't work know how to even find the plug to plug it in.
Setup took me like what...a minute or two tops?
Literally took me longer to find 3AA batteries for the back-up power than to set it up.
Beyond that within either the questions or the listing itself (can't remember, and I'm reviewing in app and don't want to go back and lose what I've wrote already) it says the version 120B or 120C literally just dictates ONLY what the packaging is that it comes in.
As you can see in my video review the box packaging does indicate it's the "B" version, but on the radio itself it is in fact the EZ. Understandable that some may miss this because it is pretty tiny.

Love this weather radio, not too many features to make it complicated but enough to give you piece of mind. This is fully programable, capable of cloning settings, port for external antennae. Alerts can be programmed to be active or inactive. ( for instance I disabled the Avalanche warning since I live at the beach) The price was well worth it. It does not come with battery but does include AC adapter. I think it gets better reception on battery away from wall. It has gone off and alerted twice now right on time. One can choose between loud alert tone, voice, and silent text
