Minka-Aire Wave F843 Ceiling Fan

Great looking fan with decent velocity.

Look like high end wood but are metal and very solid. Blades are a little short but still kick out decent velocity.

Big box stores, forget it. These fans are it!

Needed to replace a 25 year-old hunter fan in our sunroom. The big box store fans are just about as bad as they can possibly be anymore so I went searching online and found Minka Aire. The styling is just out of this world. The installation was very straightforward, although not very easy. It is dead stock still as it spins and puts out a good deal of wind. I really couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase.

Love this fan, moves plenty of air. Thought it would be matt but white is high gloss which I actually like. Good quality!

The fan we received is noisy and has a cyclical hum noise while operating in all three speeds (in both directions). The look and build quality are good but the internal motor/controller do not match this price point.

Quiet and beautiful - Eye catching

The fan air volume is good on level 1 and when needed 2 or 3 moves a ton of air. This outperforms my 4-blade fan in the bedroom. My open living/kitchen/dining area needs a fan like this. We are very happy with this new fan and it's remote control. Twice a year I will need a 3 step to lift up a cover and change the direction of the blades, summer down and winter up. Cannot be happier.

Works great, unique look.

I almost didn't purchase this fan because of some of the most recent reviews. People had a lot of negative things to say. That being said, I'm very glad I purchased it. The fan is nearly silent. I heard none of the noise that other people mentioned in their reviews. I do agree that it is a bit misleading that it says it's made of wood but it's actually some type of resin. Actually, resin is fine, it'll last longer but you just have to be careful when installing it so you do not scratch it . It's a good looking fan and brings some style to my room. It moves a lot of air. In fact,

it moves more air than the larger fan I had in this room previously. It took me about 7 minutes to install it. Considering the price and availability, this is a great buy.

Very nice fan

Very nice fans, they are easy as any other fan I have installed. They are very quiet and do put out a bit more breeze then I expected, usually run them on medium speed. Color is true to gray/brown bought two of them and colors match very well. We have 8’ ceilings and used the 6” down rod that comes with them, I did order 3.5” down rods but going to return them, 3.5” down rods would be very hard to install plus make fan look to close to the ceiling, not a look we are trying for. We feel that they do not hang to low. 14” from the ceiling to the bottom of fan motor. One remote does operate both fans not sure if there is a way to separate the two remotes to operate each fan on its own. We prefer two together. Over all at this time really nice and nice to look at fans.

One thing, don’t believe the reviews on easy install. We have done lights, but after 5 weeks I broke down and hired someone because you have to wire to receiver, then wire to fan, then mount the remote. Just sayin this is NOT a project for beginners.

Update 3/31/22:

This fan is still working perfectly. It was more than capable of keeping the house cooler over the summertime after I installed it, and has been nice just to leave on low to circulate inside air. I mentioned in the original review I was going to try something, and I did finally do it: the two pendant lamps have now been wired into the light circuit of the fan's included remote control box. The bulbs are Phillips warm glow dimmable LED so they work perfectly with the dimmer of the remote control, while being only 4W each to keep current draw to a minimum. This turned out to be a great idea since the fan does not have a light fixture of its own but still comes included with the capability in the remote box. (Probably not factory recommended to do this, but worth it.)

I bought this fan to install in my livingroom to help maintain air circulation and keep it cooler in the summertime. My installation was likely a little different than most, but it was pretty straightforward and easy to install. Instead of using a recessed electric box which didn't exist in the location I wanted to mount the fan, I measured twice, drilled once, and had my Wave fan installed, securely mounted to my concrete ceiling with the electric provided by a swag chain/power cord that drops down to a wall outlet at standard height.

The whole process took a little extra installation time because I had to 'invent' the swag power cord from scratch, find the dead center of my livingroom, drill and anchor holes for the hanger and the swag hooks, then put it all together. But I couldn't be more pleased with how it all turned out.

The fan itself is whisper quiet, and that's just wind noise. The motor doesn't appear to make any discernible noise with the exception of a quick click as the radio receiver adjusts the settings of the fan in response to the remote commands.

It's perfectly balanced, with no detectable wobble in any speed setting. :D

The fit and finish are all what I'd expect from this caliber of ceiling fan. Just holding the bare motor prior to bolting the blades on it was easy to tell this is a much higher quality than big box store ceiling fans I've installed over the years.

A few years back I had my eyes (and heart) set on Minka's Cirque ceiling fan in brushed nickel with the darker wood blades but it just never panned out. Now I'm kinda glad that one didn't because I actually like the organic design of the Wave more. It only just arrived today, so I'm content to let the silver blades and shrouds simmer for a few days/weeks just to see if they grow on me. If not, I might lightly dust on a few coats of flat white - we'll see.

For the moment I'm giving this Minka fan 5 stars, and from what I've seen during installation I doubt that will change. Anything happens I'll update my review, but for now I totally recommend this ceiling fan.

PS: I've got an idea. And if it works, I'll update my review to include this idea in case anyone else wants to try it out.

Gorgeous fan

This fan looks like it cost twice the price. The blades are carved from solid wood and are finished nicely. The installation is easy if you take your time and follow the instructions. I installed this on a sloped ceiling using the optional kit and with an optional 18" down rod. The blades are perfectly balanced and I am amazed that there is zero wobble - even at the high speed. The air flow is quite good. I am planning to purchase another for a different room.

Swoon! So beautiful. Love it. Quiet with plenty of power.

In our master bedroom. We got the one with no light and used the 6 inch down rod option, which came included. I ordered the 4 inch option, but found that it looked too close to the ceiling for us. Gorgeous, quiet fan. Love it.

Fan works fine, remote/sensor does not! This is my first Minka.

UPDATE: Seller is sending replacement remote/sensor (this was not a Seller problem but a manufacturer problem). DISLIKE - Remote/Sensor does NOT seem to work! I tried replacing the battery with a new one, and I tried changing its frequency (followed instructions in manual) four times, and the fan would not start. I took the remote/sensor out of the installation, and changed out my on/off wall switch to an on/off wall switch w/slider dimmer (per seeing that others had stated this fan can run off them). UPDATE - For safety and to make sure the motor isn't damaged, I replaced the wall dimmer switch with a ceiling fan switch designed for 3-speed fans having no light (Lutron/Hampton Bay model 750 450 available at Home Depot for $12.97). Fan works great!!! LIKE - Style of fan, its 3 blades move ALOT of air, NO wobble (and my install was on a slanted ceiling), is quiet (but I noticed, in my case, this was wall switch dependent, hum with dimmer switch no hum with wall switch designed for 3-speed ceiling fan). Its on an enclosed porch. This model is the one with no light (which is what I wanted). I've installed many ceiling fans (Hunter, Harbor Breeze, Middleton), this is the first one I've experienced a problem with.

Gorgeous, silent, and effective

This fan is beautiful and is silent while operating. I even got the 36” down rod and it still operates like a dream. So beautiful, easy install and moves air well. I am very happy with it.

Really clean mid-cent modern wood-like vibe. Comes with a nice wireless remote for control without wires.

We also bought the extension rod to have it drop down from the ceiling.

Misleading Pictures and Annoying Buzz

I just looked at the overall rating when purchasing this item and didn't read individual reviews. I wish I had before I purchased this item. The first fan I purchased and installed made a really loud buzz, so I ordered a replacement. The second one makes the same buzz, but it's a little quieter. I think I can put up with it until I find a completely different fan. I really like the shape of the fan, but for the price, the appearance should be the same as pictured on the product page, and it should be substantially quieter.

Not distressed looking, but very pretty!

Very pretty, easy installation. It was not at all distressed looking. Just looks like wood. The picture shows a crackle look, but this Does not at all look like that. separate down rod that I purchased was distressed looking. However, the wood color matched just fine. I'm happy, I would have given 5 stars if it looked distressed, as the description states. Pic shows up close fan finish and down rod finish. Bottom is very pretty too.

Finish misrepresented!

Fan just arrived today so I can't say much as to its function. Very disappointing :( Still deciding whether or not to keep it as it is definitely different then Pictured!!! I expected it to be plastic for weight and durability, so no surprise there. What came was a dark smooth walnut look that does look like cheap plastic. First I thought it must come in other wood finishes and this was an error, but the box only lists "koa distressed wood" , White, or Silver. So....... The company changed the finish and neglected to change the picture. Bummer.

Update: the 36" down rod we ordered came and IS in the "distresses" finish (very nice) however, doesn't match the fan.. Again, bummer. There are pictures from other reviewers if you look very closely you can see it and make an informed decision

Stylish and quiet.

Looks great and works great. We just had two installed yesterday and they are quiet and efficient. Would recommend. The installer was impress on the volume of air that the fan moves.

I read reviews before we purchased. So glad I did. For the price theses are fabulous.

Terrific Products!

Had two Waves in Koa finish waiting for installation. Already had two Minka fans in bedrooms which we love. This company makes the best-looking, quietest and most wonderfully effective fans I've ever seen. An unsolicited but heartfelt opinion!

Still love it after 2 years old

We bought this fan for our kitchen 2 yrs ago . We still love it - it's wood and it's beautiful. Moves a lot of air. Great purchase as far as we are concerned . Looks like a much more expensive fan.

Moves A LOT of air and looks great!

This fan moves A LOT of air, which is exactly what I needed in my Florida living room with a flat-roof home and no attic. Easy installation, super-straight forward remote control integration, and it looks awesome in my mid-century modern ranch home.

Update: May 10, 2017: 2 years into owning this fan I still love it and it is operating perfectly. I would absolutely buy this fan again!

Update 2.0: November 25, 2018: It's still as great as ever. Just two days ago at Thanksgiving, we received yet another unprompted and positive comment about this fan. I'm not sure this would be my choice for a flat-ceiling bedroom, but again it is "perfecto" for our open Florida ranch-style living room (I can't believe it's been nearly four years. But how time flies).
