Not quite impressed

Not quite impressed with the quality. On this shot I was about 10 ft away from my Sony Zv-1 on a tripod minimal wind and the sound cuts in and out. Not in love with the quality of the mic. Wish it would have battery lights on the side so I know when it’s dying. Was definitely worth a try. Wanted to give these a shot before going with a more expensive mic.

3.5mm wireless mic

The camera on the stock photo looks like a "Sony ZV-1", which I've used it on.

If you just need a basic way to get a wireless audio to your camera, it's fine. You get two transmitters.

The receiver is 3.5mm.

There is no gain control on it.

10 hour battery life.

It comes with USB-C cable and two mic covers

Movo Wireless Mini Camera Microphone for Video Recording

****** IMPORTANT NOTE: The Movo product picture shows a four-contact jack (three black stripes on the plug). There are five separate pictures of a four-contact jack. The one I received is a three-contact jack (two black stripes on the plug). This is why I was unable to get this microphone to work on any of my laptops or my Android phone, but I was able to get it to work great on my digital audio recorder.

**********************

This wireless clip-on microphone is a great addition to any audio setup. It is easy to use and unobtrusive.

The setup comes with a wireless receiver, a clip-on microphone, two 1-foot-long USB-C to USB-A charging cables (one for charging the receiver and the microphone), a small foam windscreen cover for the mic, and a small pouch carrying case.

Setup and use is very easy and you can have the mic ready to go in mere seconds:

1. Insert the 3.5mm plug of the wireless receiver into the microphone input jack for the device (camera, recorder, etc.).

2. Press and hold the power button on the receiver until the LED turns on. The LED on the receiver will immediately start to flash alternating blue/red indicating it is ready to pair.

3. Press and hold the power button on the microphone and the mic automatically syncs with the receiver. The LED on both the receiver and the microphone will turn to steady blue indicating they are linked/connected.

And that is it, the microphone is on and ready to go!

**********************

The microphone easily clips onto a shirt, blouse, or other garment with the built-in spring loaded clip and picks up the wearer speaking loud and clear. The sound quality is clear and the microphone picks up speech well even in a noisy environment, however it will also pick up any ambient noises. Even with this, any ambient noise picked up does not overshadow the voice of the person wearing the mic. The microphone is small and can be conveniently worn but can be visibly noticeable when wearing.

Both the receiver and microphone have a built-in but not replaceable rechargeable battery. To charge, connect the included 1-foot-long USB-C to USB-A cable to the USB-C charging port of each and connect the other end into a USB charging base. There is no USB charging base included in the setup but using a cell phone charger does the trick just fine.

**********************

As I mentioned in the beginning, I was unable to get the setup to work on any device that had a single mic/speaker combination jack found in many devices like laptops. In looking at the picture of the 3.5mm plug on the product page and comparing it to the one on the device I received, they appear different. The one pictured on the product page appears to be a four-contact jack (3 black stripes on the plug) and the one I received is a three-contact jack (two black stripes on the plug). This is why I was unable to get it to work on my laptops, or Android phone, but was able to get it to work great on my digital audio recorder.

Works okay but loses some bass during recording

I have a couple of wireless microphones with USB-C connections that I use with my phone. The Movo wireless microphone with the 3.5mm jack I wanted to try with my desktop computer but I also tested it with my Moto Android phone.

Both the receiver and microphone have to be charged first. They require USB-C connections to charge each device. When charged up, they are ready to be used.

I plugged the receiver into my computer and turned on the microphone. With my PC video editor on, I tested the microphone several times by recording my voice. By default, the microphone is too sensitive and the sound levels were too high and the sound file was oversaturated. I had to manually adjust the recording level down within my Windows 10 computer to get the correct sound level.

When I started recording, I am happy to say the product generally works as advertised. Unfortunately, some bass is lost. I am not expecting this wireless microphone to match my Blue Yeti USB microphone but there is a noticeable difference in audio quality. So, if you are in the office, use a USB microphone.

I ran a few tests on my Moto Android phone and I am happy to report that the sound quality is better than my test on the computer. It is certainly better than using the built-in microphone in a phone. Perhaps the hardware and input jack is better on my phone than my computer?

I would say that this Movo wireless 3.5mm microphone as with wireless USB-C microphone, it is best used for mobile situations when you have few options and carrying a traditional microphone is just too cumbersome.

Huge improvement over my DSLR camera's microphone!

I wanted a new mic for my DSLR camera so I can start using it for more video productions. I had no idea how bad the audio was on my camera until I plugged this little gem into the mic port.

What a difference! When reviewing my test video, I could barely hear myself speaking at a "normal" tone 4 feet away from my camera. Once the mic was plugged in, it was loud and clear! WOW!

The set comes with a convenient carrying case and both the mic and transmitter have their own power cords. They automatically paired once turned on, so it was very easy to just plug in and start recording.

I would recommend this mic for anyone who uses a DSLR camera for recording interviews, or vlogs. Be sure to check the compatibility chart for your camera.
