Yeah, Yeah... but How does it Sound?
For me, this is the best thing so far.
The sound that I'm chasing is that raw sound of Fred Maddox, Bill Black etc.
I like that old natural sound, I believe it was all mic'd back then to capture the sound.
It would be an understatement if I said I dislike the tin-can sound from a piezo, and if the single piezo squawking wasn't enough, let's stick a second under the fretboard, me too! Might as well play an electric bass if I was chasing that sound. (DI helps)
I never really thought about using a microphone till a situation arose for me to use a ribbon mic, they look great just sitting in the box. I wasn't familiar with the price of microphones, but that money pit is eerily similar to the Double-Bass string money pit, that's when the grip popped-up on my radar.
To be honest, my first impression about the grip was the same as how they advertise nylon strings -they play better than gut strings... we all clearly know they don't, because we all purchased them!
For me, the Grip has captured the natural sound from my '53 Kay, the tin-sound is gone.
I'm eager to get some strings for the '58 Blonde that has an ebony fingerboard...
I have several piezo's sitting in a box, if you like that sound.
Placement:
Bass or treble side and the style being played all make a difference here, move it around and experiment.
I'm betting the 6" Micro-Gooseneck would cut down some experimental time, maybe?
I wasn't sure about giving it 5 stars for Easy Install, it was harder to take it out of the box than install it!

The volume control is a great feature.
