Discreetly record or take to lectures

Small, compact, and discreet. Sound is great for casual conversation recording. About the size of a pack of gum.

Great device!

This device is great and I’m enjoying using it. The only issue I have is that you can’t listen to the high quality audio through Bluetooth. You have to record in the lesser format for Bluetooth headphones. The features help out a lot especially the app that goes with the recorder. The recorder is extremely sensitive and picks up everything. My son was speaking in another area of my house and it was picking it up. I have another recorder which I use to record with before purchasing this one and it doesn’t pick up like this one. So basically this one is great and I wish I had bought this one from the beginning. I ended up buying a small case for it and I already had a strap I could use on it. I also really like that it’s small and has so many features especially the live listen while recording. I know a lot of recorders have that feature so it isn’t anything special but it’s one of the features that was a must have for me. Overall I really like this recorder.

I was expecting more...

At this price point ($250) this product offers decent capabilities but falls a little short when it comes to capturing acoustic instruments with good quality. I tried with my acoustic guitar in a couple of different positions around the sound hole and the 12th fret with limited success.

On the positive side, it works well with a camera as it is much better than the built-in microphone. It is also very small and easy to carry around.

I sincerely hope that you would find this review helpful.

Flexibility at Its Finest

As someone who frequently records audio, I was in search of a high-quality recorder that could meet my needs. The OM System LS-P5 PCM Recorder did not disappoint! Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it's worth every penny. The tresmic 3-microphone system captures sound with incredible clarity and precision. Plus, the low-cut filter is a game-changer when it comes to reducing background noise.

The Bluetooth feature and composite USB microphone mode make it incredibly versatile, allowing me to easily transfer files and use it as a microphone for my computer. The 16GB built-in memory is also a huge plus, as I don't have to worry about running out of space during long recording sessions.

I've been using this recorder consistently for almost 6 weeks now and have yet to encounter any issues. It's a sturdy and reliable piece of equipment that has become my go-to recording companion. If you're looking for a high-quality recorder that will deliver excellent sound and flexibility, the OM System LS-P5 PCM Recorder is definitely worth considering.

Calling 1998

I spent 10 days on and off using this (more or less) because I needed to convince myself that a company such as Olympus would sell such a piece of antiquated junk as this recorder. As a photographer, I’m familiar with the Olympus brand maker of the superb OM system camera and lenses. I can’t know, but I suspect that this is not a current production device but something someone dug up in a forgotten corner of a warehouse as new-old stock and now is marketing 20-year-old tech as new.

It’s not. Please see the image that’s part of this review. This is a quick and dirty snapshot of the menu system. It actually has jaggies like some antique from the 1990s. Reinforcing this impression are the supplied AAA batteries that ran down to 75% after 10 minutes of use. Either these are the world’s worse dry cell batteries or they’re well past their sell-by date. I suspect the latter.

Here’s a quick rundown of my life with this device. The menu is crude and controlling it is inconsistent. It will record if the sound is loud and clear but it would not pick up bird chirping at 75% gain even though the sound was clear to my not so good hearing. The playback through the speaker isn’t nearly as good as the sound produced by my watch. The internal battery (believe it or don’t!) is nickel based rather than today’s lithium.

I can go on but why? The only reason I’m going two stars rather than one is that it does record and will play back. I’m completely bemused that the same company that currently produces the excellent OM-1 MILC also birthed and is actually selling this refugee from the distant past. I can’t account for it.
