Ehhh…
The obvious premise is ANYone can be creative, but I feel it misses the mark a bit. As for the condition of the book, shame on the seller. The jacket is dirty & watermarked.

The book would be fun for pre schoolers. Maybe a little over their heads but it could be a great project to do.

The story revolves around Vashti, a young girl who discovers her artistic potential through a simple dot. 🎨 Reynolds' narrative is not just about the act of drawing but a profound journey of self-discovery and confidence-building.
What sets this book apart is its empowering message – that even a small dot can be the starting point for boundless creativity. As a parent, I appreciate how "The Dot" inspires conversations about self-expression, embracing imperfections, and the beauty of individuality. 🌟 It serves as a gentle nudge for both children and adults to take creative leaps and discover their unique talents.
This is a timeless reminder that everyone has the potential to create something extraordinary. 📘✨

I ordered a new hardcover The Dot book for my classroom. The cover of the book was dirty and sticky. When I order a new book, I expect the cover to be clean like when I get a book from a bookstore. Very disappointed in the condition of the book cover for a new book.

I got this book to read to my son but my 9 year old daughter read it first and loved it. She even had a little tear. 🥲 We love this story about how one teacher can inspire you when you don’t feel good enough and how that inspiration can start a chain reaction. Just love this book!

It is a wonderful book but this copy is damaged.
Book was described as new but it has a razor slit in the cover and first few pages. It was Shrink wrapped over the damaged book. I need it for a lesson for elementary students so no time to return and replace, fixing with packing tape but disappointed.

Every once in a while you come across a book that makes you wonder how it's even possible. This is one of those books. This book is only 28 pages. It has very simple illustrations, and there isn't a lot of dialogue. Somehow, within these pages, the author manages to reveal a beautiful, heartwarming message. Parents will be amazed by the message and children will be encouraged, and filled with positive feelings. The illustrations are simple as I said, but they have their own special style and they compliment the story very well. They are subtle, but somehow also make a deep impact on the reader. This is a wonderful book to encourage any child to venture into any endeavor. I'm fascinated by this book. Highly recommended.

I’m disappointed at the state the book arrived in. I’m not normally one to complain but the front is ripped and bent.

Love the book and the uplifting, encouraging message that it centers around. I plan to give it as a Christmas gift to my nephew. However, I got my copy today and the hard cover is upside down on the book. So when I open the book based on the cover, it's backwards and upside down, which is confusing for young children who are branching out into reading on their own! Hoping to hear back soon to remedy the problem!

I was happily awaiting its arrival to read to my littles in Art the 1st day of school. This is a GREAT book I've checked out from the library, however, I remembered it being a larger standard size and this one is small @ 8x9. I will return and look for a larger format if there is one as the book illustrations are difficult for students to see from a distance.

I really enjoyed reading this small book. I find it suitable up through junior high. It reminds me of some art I use with my middle school and JH students which stimulates their imagination. And they can keep on trying, just like one of the themes of the book: Don't give up. Other themes, gleaned from the suggestions of others: see your possibilities; take risks; you have to start somewhere.
Attached is a similar approach I've used with students. Unfortunately, my copying and pasting skills are not what I would like, but you will get the idea. I drew scribbled lines--one per sheet--and let the students decide what they could make of it. The line is the darkest part of the art they made from the line. The ones I'm showing are the best of the best, but it is enjoyable for all, it seems. Read the students the book in advance.

My art students participated in International Dot Day (based on this book) back in September 2017. I read the book, watched the little YouTube clip and had the students make their own dots. They look amazing out in the hallway!!

Good book, but the box was left on my porch in the rain. No protection for the contents of the box at all. My books are now wet. Incredibly disappointing. I bought two copies to add to my school library. I now have them sitting out in the hopes that it will dry enough to be useable without warping. The darker spots you see on the two covers are water, they should not look like that.
