Waste of time and money.

Recieved the first set with one of the speakers completely broken and full of dirt.

Returned them in which they sent another set. I installed the speakers and one has already fell apart and gone out.

I do not play my music loud, I like a crisp sound without the rattling of a blown out speaker.

I would suggest another brand or set. These were a waste of time and money.

Great for Stock Systems

Application in 1st-Gen Chevy Cruze LTZ with the Upgraded Pioneer Sound System

6.5” COMPONENT A-SERIES MAX TS-A653CH: The overall sound in these component speakers seem not to be as crisp as my stock speakers. Though, the caveat in my application is that my stock amp and speakers are working at 2-Ohm for the front-door channels, while these Pioneer component speakers are supposed to work best at 4-Ohm.

6.5” COAXIAL A-SERIES MAX TS-A653FH: For my application, these seem to output a slightly better and crispier sound. The caveat is that my stock amp is outputting 4-Ohm in these rear door channels, which is a better match for the 4-Ohm of these coaxial speakers.

SPEAKER MOUNTS: Both sets of speakers came with easy-to-modify mounting brackets, which worked perfectly for my GM/Chevy car. This is a huge plus and facilitates the overall job.

Hope this review and video/audio examples are useful for other users/buyers when trying to determine what speakers would be better suited for their particular applications.

Excellent speakers

Excellent speakers, just what you would expect from a brand like Pioneer. They meet all the listed specifications.

Just what I was looking for!

These speakers are fantastic! Easy to hook up. The bass and treble sound so much better, super crisp and clear and really radiate through out the truck. Pic shows old speaker with new one.

Great sound manufacturing quality questionable

Bought this item had installed for not even a month and one of the speakers stopped working starting cutting out randomly. Later found out that looks like coil thats connected to the ground came loose. Looks to be glued on the frame of the speaker. Went ahead and returned hopefully return comes through with out a problem.

I REALLY wanted to like these speakers..

...and I do. But they weren't without its issues.

I used two sets of the coaxial 6x8s to replace some old Infinitys, and they were amazing. For a short time.

Pioneer's off-axis "open & smooth" technology really does make sure the smooth, delightful highs get to your ears. Perfect for the imperfect front door speaker location of my Grand Marquis. But the tweeters blew on the front ones mere minutes after setting gains and turning up the volume, being powered by a Kenwood 60x4 amplifier. On speakers rated "up to" 85 watts.

Upon taking them back out, I was able to cleanly remove the fried tweeters and glue in a better set of Pioneer's A-series 3/4" tweeters. Paired them with a 10uf 100v filter cap (to help blend the highs and mids a little better), and WOW, what a difference.

The "open & smooth" sound is back, but even more pronounced. And I am now happy again. As long as the rear ones don't blow later down the road...

Pioneer changed ownership several years ago, and it shows. The A-series speakers as a concept are great but quality seems to have been compromised in certain areas, like the cheap tweeter that blew, the accompanying 50v 3.3uf cap, and the lack of mounting rings and grilles. Perhaps the big dog A-Series 5-way 6x9s and component speakers are where the quality really is?

I've been an audio enthusiast for over twenty years, and Pioneer was always one of those solid brands that could do no wrong. Now? Maybe not so much.

Regardless, I still love these speaks. With HPF set at 225 hz and good clean power, my modified 6x8s provide a lot of premium sound for entry-level money. The off-axis highs that somehow still hit your ears directly are like magic. The overall sound is in a league of its own. They sit between Infinity/JBL and Focal: not as harsh as the former, but not as soft as the latter. Very unique and delightful. Just kind of a shame I had to modify them to be where they were initially designed to be.

I would still recommend them. Just be wary that this is not the Pioneer quality of old. Maybe either run them off of deck power (which defeats the purpose of installing them) or back off the amp gains just a bit.

UPDATE: the tweeters on my rear speakers have begun to die (getting quieter and quieter every day). I will be removing them and retrofitting better tweeters onto them like with the front speakers.

UPDATE 2: front passenger's side speaker is now cutting in and out. Ripped out all four of these subpar quality speakers and put in Skar 6x8s. MUCH better. Should have gone with these from the get-go. I will no longer be buying ANYthing Pioneer. Its clear this brand is now but a shadow of what its former Japanese-owned self was 👎

Come on, Pioneer 🤦

WOW

Dude these things sound fantastic!!! Great bass very low for a 6x9 and keeps the bass even turned all the way up with the stock radio these do not disappoint totally better than kicker cs I've had both and wow do these bump shakes my mirrors

Has great sound quality but come with short wire

Boasting good quality, it includes both a top cover and a base cover. It would be excellent if they added a longer wire for easy installation and some backup mesh. The sound quality is impressive, and it performs well even at high volumes.

Great entry level option!

These speakers sound good for the price. Better mids and smoother highs than the Alpine S-Type which is priced around the same. I will say nothing blew me away with them but they are pleasant to listen to nonetheless. Get plenty loud on stock power. Good effort all around.

Phenomenal Sound and Installation

Pioneer really hit it off with these speakers, from the sound quality and volume to the convenience of installation they added. Included wire with spade connectors, universal brackets, and plenty of different length screws and washers.

Perfect fit in 2001 GMC, just need my own self-tapper to hold the top in place. The unused tabs on the mounting bracket just snap off for if you don't need them. Sound quality blows OEM out of the water, and puts itself above popular competing brands such as Alpine and skar audio, in my experience.

Sound great and come with everything needed to install

My Nissan 370z has a blown passenger speaker so i got these to replace the factory speakers in my doors. I didn't realize when I ordered these that they come with a universal mounting bracket (see picture), i had already purchased a mount so i will get to return it if the included one works out.

These speakers come with a wire harness, on the wire harness one wire is solid white and the other is solid white with a black stripe (see image). I couldn't find polarity documented in the manual (i probably overlooked it) but I tested with a battery and confirmed that the solid white line is positive, and the white wire with a black stripe is negative. The positive white wire will have a larger female spade connector than the negative wire which has a smaller one.

I will not have time to install these in my car till the weekend, however i did wire this up to my home audio receiver to test the sound quality and I thought they sounded fantastic. These speakers were sent to me to to review so i wanted to provide my experience with them so far, I will update this review once they are in my car.
