This is very useful for when you need to spread out several items that are part of your work. I have 5 external monitors plugged into this Plugable dock, and along with the laptop monitor, have 6 monitors available to use. I use a MacBook Air M3 with 8GB of RAM, and haven't had many problems with using the docking station. I've found that booting up goes smoother when I wait to turn on the dock after I've logged into the laptop. The dock runs hot, so I'm using two small fans that cooled a previous dock. I'm using almost all of the ports. On the back, I have the laptop cable, the power supply cord, five monitor cables (2 HDMI and 3 USB-C), and the Ethernet cable. On the front is a plug to one of the fans. I'd like more USB-A ports, so maybe that will happen when this dock is updated. Be aware that you'll need to download and install DisplayLink software to make everything work as it should. (I bought this docking station at a brick-and-mortar store.)

After sometime of using this there is a problem. For the longest I thought my keyboard and mouse were messed up which is why it kept on lagging or stop working randomly. But come to test and found out that it’s this thing overheating or being too hot which is causing these. Do not recommend it to people for the price they charging.

Great product
It's been six months know since I got bought it, great product, very compact size and beautyful design, works great, I expand my laptop to 3 desktop monitors (2 hdmi and 1 usb c) and 2 portable monitors (usb c) for a total of 6 including the laptop monitor. You can expand or mirror any monitor. I had a small issue at first with the usb c's, the monitors did't go on when turning the dockstation botton on, and I had to unplug and plug again each cable to use them. The sopport was very useful the email me, almost daily, until the problem was fixed. Turns out one of the cables adapter (usb c to hdmi) wasn't compatible, so if you need adapters buy good ones.

If your monitor count is high, you may want to avoid this at least for now
So I was working fine with 5 monitors (4 external displays and 1 laptop display) using a WD22 dock with 2 DP, 1 HDMI, and 1 USB to HDMI. I had a 15.4' USB-C portable monitor that I never use anymore and thought that it would be good to add it to my stack. Unfortunately the WD22 dock would only support a total of 5 active monitors in Windows 11. So I found this solution and while I hesitated to switch to displaylink, I went ahead and bought this dock. Starting off, performance was decent for my usage (mainly RDP and web) with occassional audio sync issues on a few youtube videos that I would pull up to listen to in the background, but nothing major necessitating a return. Of course after the return window closed, the problems really started showing up. The first necessitated a restart because the laptop became unusable. If I undocked it, it was fine. But if I docked it again, the massive sluggishness returned. Restart seemed to fix it. Since then, I'll have monitors randomly drop out and come back in, more slugishness (though not quite as bad as the first time) that will disappear on it's own. Web pages will crash within the browser. I know I paid a lot of money for this dock, but I'm going back to my trusty Dell WD22 and hope that I can make a few bucks back selling this dock on eBay to someone who wants to use less monitors.

Dense piece of tech
Bought this for work, It works like it is supposed to as long as it doesn't over heat. I am disappointed that the only USB 3.0 options are inthe front of the device.

perfect way to expand the limited ports on your computer
I've found Pluggable products very good in the past and this one is no different. It is well made and equipped with a reasonable set of connectors for my MacBook Air and also my wife's MacMini. (guess who won that argument).
With display link support it handles two external monitors with no issue for the most part. Display Link can be cpu intensive some times but that is the DL software, not Pluggable's. Drive performance to external hard drives is fine - with SSD drives you might find it limiting but I doubt you'd notice it if you weren't measuring it.
In the end I didn't argue with my spouse. If the usb c ports were T4 40gbps, I might have fought her for it.
This is definitely a good multi-port device to be considered if you're buying one.

Great product so far. Will update if that changes.
Works well so far. Runs very hot!!! Hot enough to have me concerned. I am currently driving five 1080p @ 60Hz off of it, which made me happy. for some reason the HDMI displays didn't work until i first unplugged them. That was either a thunderbolt to HDMI or an HDMI to HDMI. The TB to display port worked as soon as I loaded the software/drivers. I'm running this on Windows 11 Pro.

Versatile and feature rich USB-C dock 💻🖥️🖥️
Overview
After spending extensive time with the Plugable UD-7400PD, I can confidently say it’s one of the most versatile docking stations I’ve used. Supporting up to five displays, 140W laptop charging, and high-speed connectivity, it’s been a game-changer for my workflow.
Multi-Monitor Setup
I run three monitors with it, and it works seamlessly across Windows, macOS (MacBook Air M2), and Ubuntu Linux thanks to DisplayLink drivers.
The dock features:
- 1x HDMI 2.1 (8K @ 30Hz)
- 1x HDMI 2.0 (4K @ 60Hz)
- 3x USB-C DisplayLink (4K @ 60Hz each)
- 1x ethernet port
- 1x USB-C and 2x USB-A in front for peripherals
- 1x headphone jack (in/out)
I’ve noticed that the system prioritizes HDMI connections first, leaving USB-C displays as the last ones identified—not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind when setting up multiple monitors.
Connectivity & Peripherals
Every essential device I’ve connected—webcam, microphone, keyboard, mouse—has worked flawlessly without any hiccups. It’s great knowing I can rely on fast 2.5Gbps Ethernet for stable networking, while the USB ports provide ample expansion for accessories.
Daily Usage & Performance
I’ve been using it 12 hours a day without any issues. Even under heavy workloads, it doesn’t overheat, which speaks volumes about its efficiency. The slim profile is another huge plus—it’s portable enough to move around without hassle.
One minor frustration is the Thunderbolt cable to the host—it’s picky. Some cables fail at charging, while only high-quality branded cables reliably handle display, data, and power delivery.
Power & Charging
The power button is a welcome addition, making it easy to control, but I wish there were an option for charging-only mode. If Plugable ever adds that feature, it would perfect an already solid product.
Final Thoughts
The Plugable UD-7400PD has proven to be a reliable, high-performance docking station that can handle multi-monitor setups, fast networking, and ample charging power. It does require DisplayLink drivers, but once installed, it works smoothly across Windows, macOS, and Linux. If you need a professional-grade dock that can multitask effortlessly, this is one I’d recommend

Versatile and capable dock with up to 5 displays
Pros:
• Versatility
• High PD 140W charging
• Multiple displays up to 5 displays (HDMI 2.1 up to 8K@30Hz, HDMI 2.0 up to 4K60 Hz, 3 USB-C DisplayLink 4K@60Hz each)
• 30W USB-C charging
Cons:
• Plugable logo display at the startup
• Not capable of 4K@120/144Hz
• Need to install DisplayLink driver
This Plugable dock is a capable and versatile dock particularly for multiple displays (up to 5 displays at 4K @60Hz). The power supply delivers 140W through the PD port charging the laptop, which is larger than any dock. For a new dock, this dock doesn’t have a port that is capable of 4K @120/144Hz. The ALT mode HDMI port supports 8K@30Hz. The three USB-C ports not only delivers video output via DisplayLink but also delivers data at 10 gbps speed.
This dock works well with the Dell XPS 16 9640 laptop. The dock itself is a thin brick (real brick) size and has some weight, and doesn’t slide if laid flat due to silicon rubber feet. The build quality is excellent and each port is well spelled out for easy identification. The power supply is a bit smaller than 2/3 of the dock itself., but little bit thicker, actually not big for a 180W power supply compared to other power supply. The dock itself is very warm (you could say it’s hot, but not scalding hot) to the touch. The body (shell) of the dock should have been designed with fins for heat-sinking capability to reduce temperature.
I have tested two 4K@60Hz monitors and both worked flawlessly. Remember, you need to install the DisplayLink software for this dock to work. Overall, it’s a capable and versatile dock, but the price seems to be rather higher side for 4K@60Hz performance. One suggestion to the Plugable would be to increase the port speed to 4K 120/144Hz.

Great for the Professional Who Needs to Work with Many Monitors
I am using this dock with my mini PC from BosGame, so I didn't have any issues that the Mac reviewers had. for testing, I am connecting it to my main 32" QHD LG monitor, my 48" LG OLED TV, and a 15" portable monitor (that's all I had to connect to), and they all worked fine. You do need to install some files for everything to work as intended - drivers, etc., so it's not simple plug and play. There is also a power button, so it's a dedicated self-powered system. Therefore, do not get this if you need a simple plug and play USB hub/docking station. The price will quickly tell you that anyway - at $280 to me it's overpriced. As of this current writing, you can get 20% off, which brings down the price by about $55, so it's a much better deal with that. This is a professional device for a professional who needs to use many monitors in their line of work. For others, it's overkill. For what it's intended, I really like this new DisplayLink system - it gives weak/mini PC systems like mine the ability to connect to many monitors without the need to go through a strong or dedicated GPU.

Excellent multi-display alternative!
I wish I would have known of this DisplayLink technology sooner! Finally, my Lenovo Ideapad 5 Flex 14ARE05 Ryzen laptop can dock over USBC for video output! Years ago I ran into trouble trying to work around this, and I couldn't find a solution for the life of me. Well, here it is, and it exceeds expectations! Over my laptop's USB 3.2 Gen 1 no display USB C port, I can now connect to four monitors at full resolution and full refresh rate! While I wouldn't recommend this solution for the most intense of gaming, you can get away with a lot in the productivity and basic gaming departments!
This dock lets me neatly power my monitors with just one USB-C cable per, versus separate video and power cables. Now my desk looks much cleaner! While this works with my laptop, my primary use-case is my ROG Ally Z1, which docks easily over the one USB 3.2 Gen 2 C port on the top. One of my cables is actually powering two monitors, as it's a 2-in-1 productivity monitor. So this is an excellent docking solution for mid-range to high end laptops, as well as handheld PCs.
There are only two glaring drawbacks which haven't bitten me quite yet, but may later. Firstly, this dock gets hot. Not to the point of destruction, but it is uncomfortable to leave my hand placed on top of it for more than a few seconds. With my ROG set just on top of it, that could be an issue later. A fan or other cooling solution would be useful here.
Secondly, there aren't many USB ports available. While laptop users might not be too concerned, my ROG Ally only has the one USB C port, and I have lots of I/O, so I have a USB hub to compensate. This might cause minor hiccups, but I can overlook this for now. More use will be a truer tale.
Now, for almost $300, you might consider other docking solutions, such as the Dell WD22TB4 dock, which offers a few more USB ports, has active cooling, and even Thunderbolt capability. Many Display-Alt USB C ports can still take advantage of what that dock offers, such as my own Ally, and still achieve the same or a similar experience. However, if you have a laptop like mine which does not do video over USB-C, this can remedy that splendidly. So, do your research and make the determination yourself.

A specific use case USB C dock that works well if you understand the limitations
Reading the other reviews, a lot of people don't understand how this thing works.
It's what I call "in-between tech" because it is using some sophisticated CPU tricks to do some GPU work.
Most laptops don't have a powerful enough graphics card to push signal to 5 monitors, so this dock uses DisplayLink.
DisplayLink is a technology that enables a computer to connect to multiple external displays using a USB connection, essentially providing a way to add additional monitors without needing direct video output ports on the device. It works by compressing video data and sending it over a USB link to a DisplayLink-enabled device (like a docking station or adapter), which then outputs the signal to the monitors.
So, it's a bit of a tech stunt show, but on modern hardware it works.
I wouldn't use it in a video editing situation as there can be some lag, but if you install the driver, it works as advertised.
I have several USB C and Thunderbolt docks in production at work, this one is well designed and it does the job.
The power brick is almost as big as the device, that's because you can use it to power your laptop as well.
My specific use case is using my laptop screen and 4 Projectors simultaneously and it works like a charm.
