We love this ceiling fan. It’s so gorgeous and really ties up our space. We’re remodeling and adding in a ceiling fan for a room that didn’t have one because it gets so hot. This ceiling fan really cools the room quick and even gets cold to where we have to turn it off, lol.
My husband is trying to fix the bracket support so excuse the cardboard. It’s also slightly more on the small size which I think is actually the perfect- proportionate size for the room. It comes with warm lighting which I prefer over white.

The fan came in a well protected box. It even came with the bulbs! Instructions were clear and simple. Can be put together with simple hand tools. Be sure to power off the device to be replaced by the fan, including the breaker box. Good colors on the reversible blades. I chose the lighter color for the office. Looks good and puts out a nice breeze. I have purchased 3 of these. All arrived well packed. Although it comes with light bulbs, I bought different energy efficient bulbs. This is a picture of the "lighter" side of the fan blades. But you can reverse them to the wood color if you want. This fan is NOT noisy at all. Don't even know it's on except for the breeze.

Fan works well... but was missing holes.
Everything on this fan worked and all the parts were there, but this shroud was missing 2 holes. Seems a pretty major defect. I've worked as quality control supervisor on a manufacturing floor and I can't imagine letting this kind of defect go through.
I don't need a replacement, I drilled my own holes. But drilling your own holes isn't something I'd expect the average customer to do. You're drilling into metal on a round object, and simply locating the correct locations for the holes is another challenge entirely.

Pretty Good Fan
Overall this is a great fan. It looks nice, was easy to assemble and didn't feel cheap. I purchased 3 of these fans, one of them is completely silent when it's running, even on high. The one in the video I included has a humming noise when the fan is running. It's not super loud, but definitely noticeable in a quiet room. I got these on sale for $50 so I'm definitely not complaining. At least the noisier one is in the guest room that we almost never use.

An absolutely beautiful looking fan!
In our home on the main level we have an open floor plan which presents an interesting problem in circulating the airflow, especially during the extreme seasons when the A/C or furnace are in use. What we needed was a fan to move the air around a bit more, improving circulation and creating a much cooler living room this time of the year. The Portage Bay fan has a switch on the side that allows for reversing the blades to either push or pull the air depending on the season and for what we are looking to accomplish. We have had ceiling fans in the past (previous home) and they performed well.
This is the first time that I have attempted to install a fan, previously, we hired electricians. This one I decided to tackle myself where we already had a sufficient receptacle in place. The previous fixture was a mini four bulb glass ceiling mounted light.
I installed this 90% solo, the MRS helped until she had to go out and run errands. The installation instructions were super easy to follow and understand (thank you Portage Bay for that). From the time I unpacked the parts from the box to full assembly and completion it was about an hour and a half. The installation can be done quicker if you have done one in the past. I took my time to make sure I only had to do it once. : )
The ceiling fan has two reversible blade colors a dark and a light grain, so I felt it best to wait until the MRS came home to decide which color to go with. : )
We chose the lighter color as it fit our room color in a nice subtle way. The accent around the lights is a really nice thick weighty glass and a quality nickel finish. The bulbs were included in the box which I was delighted for as I didn't have any clear bulbs handy and these bulbs go perfectly with the fan. The fan has two chains, one longer than the other to easily identify the lights from the fan speed; either can be turned on / off independently of the other which is a nice feature.
Overall, I love this fan! It is as quiet as quiet gets. It makes no sound that I can hear other than wind at the highest rpm setting. It was perfectly balanced out of the box, no adjustments needed. The nickel finish is a beautiful touch to the fan and lights. A nice addition to the living room! I think this is a tremendous value for the money!

Enclosed bulbs are garbage.
The Portage Bay 51437 Renton Ceiling Fan, 42, Nickel is a small ceiling fan that makes my room look so much larger. It's definitely got an "economy" type of feeling about it, rather than a high quality feel. Here are some points to note:
- The engine is small, and doesn't seem very powerful, although it turns the blades just fine. It is quiet as advertised, which I appreciate!
- The blades themselves are lightweight. They had some of the brown paint sprayed over the edges slightly onto the grey side of the blades (a bit sloppy, but you can't tell when it's up high.)
- The glass cups that surround the bulbs had to be washed with dish soap and left to dry prior to installation, as they were dusty and dirty looking upon arrival.
- The included bulbs were garbage. They weren't even threaded well, and didn't want to screw into the sockets easily. Not only that, they gave off a very dim orangey light. I ended up replacing them immediately with better bulbs I already had at home.
- Installation was relatively simple, and the directions were good. I would have preferred not to have had wires wedged close together between two metal plates (my old ceiling fan allowed for the wires to be placed up into the box in the ceiling and had more space there.) I ended up taping the wires somewhat to try to prevent contact, since they are squashed so close together in a tiny spot between the metal plates.
Overall, it's a decent ceiling fan, but definitely not a high end product. I would recommend finding better bulbs to use, rather than bothering with those enclosed.

Clean looking fan.
I put the brown side visible because I didn't want the white blades to show how dingy my popcorn ceiling is. The old fan came with the house over 30 years ago and wobbled so much I had to shove cardboard between the fan base and the ceiling.
I had my sister & brother-in-law install it for me otherwise it would have been $150. They said the long screws were not in the box and we had to use the ones from the old fan. The bracket was replaced and is much sturdier and fixed the wobbling. The wiring comes with the really small caps that do not work with my older house wiring. (I wired several lights and those blue caps are useless, get the yellow kind).
The rest of the installation went off with no more problems. The fan base, light base, and blades were all complete and no scratches or stickers that ruin the finish.
You can see from the pictures that the glass covers are clear and bulbs are really bright. It's a nice fan, not too outdated, but not modern. It's a 42" and the right size for the room.

Quiet, well made fan for small to medium rooms
I ordered this ceiling fan to replace an old old-fashioned fan in my breakfast nook. Its 42” size works wonderfully there and I recommend it for small to medium rooms.
The installation was easy and took about 40 minutes including the removal of the old fan. The assembly instructions were easy to follow and very straightforward. Most of the screws came inserted in their right spots and had to be removed and then used during installation. I liked this approach and didn’t mind the extra step of removing the screws because I knew exactly which screws are needed in each step and because they were preassembled the perfect fit was ensured. The tools I used (not included) were: Phillips screwdriver, electrical tape, wire strippers, and a ladder.
The fan works great. I like that the motor has 3 speed options and is reversible to help circulating warm air during winter. I also like the versatility of the reversible blades: gray oak on one side and white on the other to match any room decor. The whole fan is well made and sturdy. It operates very quietly, which is another huge improvement over my old fan.
I like the clear glass shades in this fan, which give it clean, streamlined look and maximum brightness. However, for my personal needs, the included lightbulbs were too small to
give enough light for this particular room with no recessed lights in that area, so after a few days I replaced them with larger LED bulbs. Now, this fan is absolutely perfect for my needs in cooling and in lighting, and it complements the room nicely. The whole family enjoys it and I highly recommend it.
