Terrible detection, will fill your SD card with slop

Useless if you use the night IR lights and have ANY water vapor in the air. Crappy Windows app. Don't be like me and get stuck into this AMZbrand's ecosystem. Going to start changing out for a brand with better features and less cost.

Very reliable Wi-Fi camera — works great with Frigate and Home Assistant too

I've been using this Reolink 4K Wi-Fi camera as part of my home security system, and it has been a great camera for me.

I have a fairly advanced home surveillance setup with multiple Reolink cameras connected to my own server running Frigate, along with Home Assistant for monitoring and automations. Even though this particular camera connects over Wi-Fi rather than Ethernet, I've had a good experience using it as part of that system.

Image quality is very good during the day, and the resolution gives me enough detail for the camera to actually be useful for security rather than simply showing that someone or something passed by. Nighttime performance has also been good for monitoring the exterior of my home.

One of my favorite things about Reolink is that I'm not limited to only using their app. I use this camera with Frigate through RTSP/go2rtc and take advantage of the camera's different streams. My server can use the lower-resolution substream for continuous object detection while still having access to the higher-quality stream when needed. That makes it much easier to run multiple cameras efficiently.

The Wi-Fi connection has also worked well in my environment. Obviously, Wi-Fi camera performance will depend heavily on the quality and coverage of your home network, but with good wireless coverage I've been able to use this as part of an always-on camera system without needing to run Ethernet to the location.

I also integrate my Reolink cameras into Home Assistant, which gives me additional options for automations and monitoring around the house.

For someone who doesn't have a home server, none of that is required. The Reolink app provides a much simpler way to use the camera. What I appreciate is having both options. It can be a straightforward Wi-Fi security camera for an average homeowner, but it also has enough flexibility for someone like me who wants local streams and integration with their own NVR and smart-home system.

I've had a good enough experience with Reolink that I've continued adding their cameras around my property, including both Wi-Fi and wired models.

If you need a location covered where running Ethernet isn't practical but you still want a capable camera that can be incorporated into a larger local security system, this has been an excellent solution for me.

Great Quality Video - Setup Is a Little Fussy

I bought the camera specifically to enjoy our view of the Intracoastal Waterway. My checkboxes were motion detection, optical zoom, and coverage for 100 yards. Setting up the auto detection was a bit tricky because I had to avoid cars and people while hoping to capture only boats, some at speed. It will continuously record, but once the motion detection was set up, it was unnecessary. It is sharp and adapts to lighting conditions well. I am thinking of getting a second one. I don't use the audio or lights. Time-lapse is a lot of fun. Set up was a little fussy, but ChatGPT was a bighelp.

Don’t install outside. Rain gets inside lens.

This is a very poorly designed outdoor camera. It’s rated as weather resistant, but the first hard rainstorm we had caused the lens to fog up and water penetrated behind the lens C (see picture).

Camera system has saved us several times

Using this Reolink system to monitor a property in another city. It alerts me when we have trespassers, so I can call police. I can speak with people through the cameras. The cameras have lights and sirens to warn people off. It has saved us from multiple potential thefts. Night vision is pretty good although Reolink now offers cameras with better color night vision others may want to consider.

I dare you to find Waldo in this picture.

I brought two of these cameras, both suffered from losing the ability to focus. Picture get blurry, they have a firmware update to fix that problem. But it does not fix it. I had one replace about 3 weeks ago, so for its working. Now the second one needs to be replaced, but they just told me it was out of stock (I believe they have stop selling them) and I can see why.

Amazing Cameras

I bought 8 of these the picture quality is amazing. Can add them to a monitor or just use off phone night vision is great as well. Instructions are very clear and easy to understand you can turn sound on or off for each camera.

U2

Not water-resistant

Reolink cameras allow water to enter the camera. This is my second camera ruined by rain. Reolink would not replace the two cameras. They told me to bring the camera inside until it dried out. That's some seriously worthless advice for an outdoor camera. It will just happen again as soon as it rains.

Amazing cameras!!!

These cameras are amazing! I'm replacing my 10+ year old 1080p cameras because of problem neighbors and what an upgrade these are!!! You get instant notifications of people, animals, and vehicles, and you can immediately watch back those individual clips on your phone. There are lots of options to choose from on the app to tailor the cameras to your personal needs. Very clear video feed and did I mention they also record sound?? I'm definitely getting more of these!!!

Beware Design Issue - Antenna Mount Clearance - Cannot properly mount in some situations.

Buyers Beware!

These cameras have one major design flaw that will prevent them from being installed using a LEFT or RIGHT knuckle mounting to a vertical wall with the camera view completely parallel to the ground. There is View Flip Horizontal and Vertical but no PTZ rotation (only Zoom and Focus) to correct this issue.

Also the mounting Stem must be screwed into the back of the Camera completely to seal the camera where the cord enters. There is a set screw to secure once fully tightened but the set screw/stem does not allow rotation to fix the clearance issue.

SEE PICTURES

The design issue is that the Antenna mounts on the Camera are exactly in line with the mounting stem so at full Left/Right there is no clearance to attach one of the Antennas. My previous Cameras (different Brand) have the Antenna mounts offset to the top back of the Camera allowing for full clearance. And without the option of Stem rotation there is no fix.

The Cameras have been working very well so far. The REOLINK APP is fairly robust and allows most of the options I need.

Reolink equipment is meant to work well with other Reolink equipment and it does!

RLC-811WA

I'm a very experienced user with Reolink Cameras. My dad and I have been very pleased with Reolink equipment over the years. They are hard to beat for Price/Quality This camera is no exception. Works fantastically with wifi 6. My Mom wanted something wireless to monitor her kitty house because she's been battling a skunk eating all the food and tearing stuff up.

-If you have a Reolink NVR already setup on your network it will automatically take it over, then change the default passwords, so you will have to set it up through the NVR First and then change the password to whatever you want if you need to run it standalone for a project. (This can be a bit of a headache for someone who doesn't understand what's happening when they try to setup using the QR code and it won't activate.) Tech Skill and Basic Network understanding is required.

-No Reolink NVR on network then you can activate it with QR Code in mobile app or software on computer without issue.

Reolink Equipment is meant to work well with other Reolink equipment, trying to connect them to other vendors systems isn't impossible but may cause unnecessary headaches.

Nice Camera

I bought this bullet cam to have a good view of my bird feeder, as well as a portion of my back yard. I wanted a plug in model because I wanted continuous camera feed and it was convenient to my desired location (near an outlet). It has great color during the day, and really good color or B&W at night, depending on if I want the IR or spotlight on. My router is near the front of my 3000Sq ft house and this camera has no problem with WiFi connection from the back yard. I have multiple Reolink cameras so I use both the NVR (for my POE cameras) and the PC and Android App for access to all of them. Attached snapshot if from the PC client app. I must like them, because I keep expanding my camera count and property coverage.

Decent Camera For The Novice User

The two images I provided are of actual vandals/thieves trying to break into our mailboxes captured with this Reolink camera. The first image was taken with spotlight enabled with supplemental lighting. Facial clarity seems good. The second image was taken with spotlight disabled without supplemental lighting. The face is too blurred to be recognizable, but their license plate is legible. Both using color night mode. All the images were retrieved from Reolink app at full resolution using “clear” quality.

I’ve been using this RLC-811WA camera for about 2 months now. I have experience with many other more reputable brands of cameras before and I opted for this Reolink because it’s more budget friendly with the features I need. This camera seems decent, but it does have its shortcomings.

What I hate the most is when you first open the app to view the camera, there’s often a delay “connecting” or “loading stream”. This delay seems to vary all the time almost like its buffering. This could be because it connects to Reolink servers before it directs your connection to the camera. I can see how this approach is useful for less technical people since it allows you to view your camera remotely without needing to configure port forwarding or other firewall rules. I’m more used to the near instantaneous loading of some other brands.

Here’s what I dislike about this camera:

1. This camera is bulky. It seems to be more than twice the size of other cameras. Possibly because it takes more space to make the camera varifocal.

2. Image takes a long time to refocus after zooming. This makes it unpractical to zoom in on suspicious activity when its needed since it would just blur the image for a while.

3. Ipad app doesn’t seem that different from iPhone app. App doesn’t load everything in landscape mode, only when you go full screen on a camera stream.

Here’s what I like:

1. Local control. This would be a dealbreaker if I was restricted to their app and/or forced to connect to a cloud server. This camera allows you to access it via HTTP/RTSP/Onvif if you enable it. The camera loading delay is improved when connecting directly. By default this functionality is disabled which is understandable since it’s more of a security risk for the more casual user who might have it on when they don’t utilize it.

2. Human/animal/vehicle detection seems spot on. Better speed and accuracy than other brands I have used. Hasn’t misidentified an object so far so I’m impressed by that.

Here’s my final thoughts on the camera.

1. UI and configuration is oversimplified. It lacks more comprehensive adjustments of the image like color balance, exposure, etc. Same with motion detection. Can’t define zones, line crossing, intrusion boundaries, etc. Works well enough out of the box, so I don’t hold it against it since camera is intended for the casual user.

2. Image quality seems decent. Motion blurring is more severe when there’s too little light so there’s room for improvement there.

3. Wifi range seems decent. Getting a strong signal outdoors, but there were 3-4 instances where the camera appeared offline when the rest of the network was working seamlessly.

4. Push notifications work well, but it would be nice if they were rich push notifications instead that don’t require a paid cloud subscription. As a workaround, I am having it email an image to a rich push mailbox.

Very tricky to link to network

Reolink wifi cams are very difficult to synch to wifi and nvr. I have 6 all were a pain and one never did connect. All of them took over an hour to connect and each had different tricks and issues. Reolink needs to fix their wifi products . Update 9-25. Of the 6 three fogged up and one failed autofocus. The silica gel bags inside the cameras are sealed plastic (so obviously dont work), but even when replaced they kept fogging . TERRIBLE PRODUCT

Love Reolink cams, but...

These are a great buy. I have two that work as described. I love that I am not required to create an account with Reolink. I installed a SD card and connect it to your network and all is good. Found the device in their App and it worked great, Video looks great.

However, the motion detection-notification doesn't always work. Sometimes it works too good.

Notification sometimes gets disabled and I cannot turn it back on. I have two Reolink cameras.

***Update: Almost a year later and I cannot re-enable Push Notifications. This was the biggest reason for the purchase. The App keeps saying "Operation Failed" when trying to enable Push Notifications.

***Update to Update 11/30/2024. To get Push Notifications, you MUST add a Short Cut. On the App Main Page, pull down to see/create a shortcut. Tech support did not solve this. I was tinkering and remembered shortcuts during one of the updates to the App. I set one and started getting notifications. So, User error?

Best WiFi Camera Security System

I'm been using this REOLINK 4K Wireless Security Camera System for a couple of months now, and I must say, I'm very pleased with it's quality and performance. I had originally purchased another brand and after 2 of the cameras failed, I sent it back and got this one.

This REOLINK 4K wireless camera system is very easy to set up and configure. And the wireless transmission between the cameras and NVR works great! You only need to sync them up once with the NVR and that's it. The picture quality is fantastic and the interface for the NVR and phone app works great and is easy to use also.

Even though it comes with 4 cameras, it's expandable up to 16 cameras. I've since purchased the REOLINK Pan/Tilt with tracking motion and also the REOLINK Door Bell with 2 way communication. This set-up in my opinion is the best to have piece of mind while you're away from your home. I Highly Recommend This Camera System!

Hands Down The Best Wi-Fi camera!

Out of all security cameras that I have (Wi-Fi and hardwired network), this Reolink 811WA is the very best! It does everything I need from a Wi-Fi security camera. Really, if I knew this company before, I would never spend thousands of dollars on Mobotix cameras that don’t work as good as this one. Reolink suggests 5Ghz as Wi-Fi band preference, which works perfect when used inside. However, for outside use (longer distance and concrete walls) it’s better to set up 2.4Ghz to avoid dropping signal. It has excellent night vision. When the motion detector senses an intruder, the camera sends a notification on my iPhone and iPad at the same time. After easy set up it brings false alarms to a minimum. On top of everything, it also has optical zoom which is rare, especially for this price.

Good WIFI Security Camera With Optical Zoom

This is a very good WIFI Security Camera. The optical zoom provides a clear view even when zoomed in. The night vision works great with the assist of the LED Spotlights (can be enabled or auto via motion detection. I can clearly see my front gate 120’ from the camera mounted on the house (see photos).

The camera worked great over my mesh WIFI where I tested the camera in my barn 200ft. from the house. Later I found that the Reolink NVR uses it’s own separate WIFI so it will NOT work over my mesh WIFI, and distance is limited to the single NVR Base Station (about 100’). I’ve decided to use the NVR for cameras around the house, and my Mesh WIFI for cameras around the property, and managing the mesh WIFI cameras via the PC Application.

When testing the standalone camera, I was not pleased that I could not easily arm/disarm the motion capture and alerts. My concern is that if I have several cameras, manually enabling and disabling the Motion Capture would be tedious, but found that the PC Application allows you to easily enable/disable motion capture and alerts easily.

I have a problem with insects interfering with my camera at night. This appears to be a common problem with security cameras. The bugs appear to be attracted by the infrared lights for night vision. I’m experimenting with ways to resolve that.

So, I’m very pleased with my testing of this camera and have purchased a NVR System with 4 more cameras that I am now installing and learning.

Great Security Camera with Zoom!

This Reolink 4k "RLC811-WA" camera was the first one that I got for my setup at our new property. I hadn't heard a ton about reolink before but it had a lot of compelling features that seemed to set it apart from the competitors. I could go on for ages about this camera but I'll try to keep it succinct.

Zoom: The optical zoo feature on this camera is great, especially for a camera that you have facing your front door, to see if packages are present and view someone who might be waiting to come inside. Since this isn't a PTZ camera though, you'll have to be very intentional about the exat angle that you place the camera at, otherwise when you zoom in you'll end up looking in the wrong spot.

Image quality: During the day, the image quality on this camera is great, with a decent amount of manual controls via the app. It can easily pick out license plates or other smaller details, but at night time or in dark conditions it does tend to fall apart a little bit, at least compared to my other reolink colorsight camera. The camera does feature an IR mode, which works fine, but if you have any eaves or other things hanging into the camera view, the light will tend to bounce off those and go straight into the camera, throwing off the exposure a bit.

Focus: The autofocus is quite slow on this camera, taking a couple seconds to re-focus after you zoom in or out. It usually does the job fine though and is much better than a fixed focus camera.

Other features:

This camera has a light spotlight built in, and it works okay, but if you have patio lighting you might want to just leave it turned off. The lights are bright white and can be quite obtrusive if pointed in the wrong direction. The IR LED's provide enough light to see in the night vision mode, but the contrast isn't the best ever.

App & backup:

My favorite stand out feature of the reolink cameras is definitely the app. It has a number of configuration features that get all the way down into the hours where certain things can be triggered. You can set schedules for recording and alerts, set what objects to alert for (which is fairly accurate using its machine learning detection) and on top of all that, it can record all of its clips to LOCAL STORAGE. This is incredibly important, especially with the growing number of security cameras that are tied to cloud storage and subscription fees. I'd much rather pay $15 once for an SD card than every single month for cloud storage.

One thing to note, for setup I did have to use the ethernet cable and plug directly into my network to get it to detect properly. Overall, awesome camera with great features. It is quite big and heavy so make sure to check the size and mounting provisions before purchasing. Another cool thing I noticed is that the Reolink packaging is very nice full-print boxes, and comes with a security seal, to know if it was tampered with before delivery.

True 4K Video

The REOLINK 4K WiFi camera stands as an exemplar of engineering excellence. Constructed to withstand the elements, its robust, weatherproof metal casing ensures maximum security. The camera operates with a pigtail barrel plug for power and utilizes WiFi for data transmission. While it features an RJ-45 Ethernet cable jack, it's important to note that it does not support PoE but can still facilitate network data transfer.

Setting up is a breeze with the REOLINK mobile app, accessible on both iOS and Android platforms. The entire process of downloading the app and integrating the camera into my network was accomplished in just ten minutes.

The clarity and detail of the 4K resolution are truly remarkable. Even though I captured a screenshot on my phone, the live image quality is even more impressive.

For those in the market for a reliable, high-resolution WiFi security camera, I wholeheartedly suggest considering this REOLINK system.

Good NIght Vision

Pros:

-The night vision works well, providing clarity in the dark. It also has the added fun benefit of capturing lots of suburban wildlife who visit during the night, making it more entertaining than expected.

The camera was easy to install with the provided equipment on the side of my house where I already had electric hookup access.

-The app setup was simple, user friendly, and easy to use.

-The spotlight and alarm is a nice feature to protect your home and deter intruders. The alarm will definitely wake you up at night but can be silenced if you do not want it.

I feel reassured knowing that I have cameras protecting my house. The cameras are also easy to identify by others since they are white so hopefully it deters any unwanted attention.

Great system awesome picture quality

This camera system was easy to install and link up. The picture quality is great. This is the second system I've installed. I was able to sync the WiFi cameras to the unit without a hitch. The only hang up I've had so far, is that I had to delete the old camera app to view the new ones. I hope they have a fix so I can integrate both Reolink camera systems.

Great Wired Camera

Most of my security cameras are the battery powered W-Fi Cameras. I like them because they are easy to setup anywhere you can get a wireless connection since they are battery powered. I can set them up in temporary locations for specific purposes as long as I can get wireless. They can be mounted on a wall with a mount or even set on something with its stand. I have wanted to put a wired camera like the RLC-810 in the important spots around my home that currently always have the Wi-Fi Cameras installed in the hope the picture quality would be improved.

This camera has very good detection levels and can tell the difference between a vehicle, a human and an animal and use those as filters to only look for specific things. There is a new mode they are adding that will show you what triggered the camera by putting a colored box around the target. You can also adjust the area on the screen you want to trigger on motion so you can ignore an area that always has something moving like maybe a wind chime. The unit has very good night viewing capabilities with or without the IR active. I was really surprised at how well this camera worked with only the ambient light in color mode. There are controls where you can adjust the brightness and contrast to get the best picture for the environment the camera is working. This camera has a siren mode and speakers and a microphone so you can listen to and talk to anyone or anything on camera.

The RLC-810 comes with a strong mount that can be mounted about anywhere it can fit. The camera must be powered by a plug in electric wall type socket. You can connect to your network via wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi. The cables can be run outside the unit to an opening to power and Ethernet or you can drill a small hole behind the mount and run them through the wall or ceiling area. The setup is straightforward and easy and the software has all the same basic controls as all Reolink cameras. This camera has 3 quality levels compared to 2 on some others. The spotlight has infinite adjustable brightness levels. At 4K this model has very good image quality day and night. Not only does it look good in full screen mode, but when you zoom in the 4K lets you see more details. I have had the RCL trigger at 100 feet by a vehicle in the street. Of course the time of day and target size and motion direction can vary this. The RLC-810 can record to a microSD or Reolink’s NVR you can purchase separately.

Overall installation is not that hard if you are handy or you can hire a handyman to easily install it for you. I see no reason not to recommend it.

A note about the uploaded pictures. The actual image quality of the camera is actually better than is shown due to how the pictures are compressed and resized when uploaded to the review. Still, you can get a good idea of the quality.

Setup needs mobile + ethernet, cant disable audio, desktop client is meh, app is fine, RTSP works

Setup for this camera requires both a mobile device and a temporary ethernet connection with the same LAN the mobile device is on.

The audio cannot be disabled, removed, or volume adjusted from any interface, for any stream format. I find this to be a ridiculous limitation. All mics on electronics should be able to be entirely disabled. The star I took away was due solely to this.

The Reolink desktop client is just too hit and miss for me to use as a main surveillance appliance. I only use it for whatever configurations the mobile Reolink app doesn't have. It can be running fine one minute, and then the next it falls into a endless loop attempting to re-connect to cameras. You can lose your entire profile when updating it meaning you have to reconnect every camera. Sometimes you'll have to add the same camera over and over again for a prompt to enter credentials to appear, sometimes you'll have to remove cameras and reinstall them for the client to even attempt connecting on launch. There are a number of user input errors that can occur but no troubleshoot prompting to advise you that you've made one; so its a guessing game of resetting and retrying until you get something that works. It can operate as an NVR but not unattended because of these aforementioned reliability issues and some others.

There is support for HTTP but it has to be enabled first. Not all Reolink cams offer this so its a nice inclusion. There is also the mobile app which is far more stable, unfortunately it does not include every configuration option (has most though).

RTSP is supported but you have to enable this one too. The only way I found to enable it and set a port was in the desktop client, the option was not present in the app. The manual does not indicate how to establish an RTSP connection so you'll have to visit Reolink's website, support section, for full instructions. I noticed that it regularly takes frequent attempts for 3rd party apps to make RTSP connections; this has been a typical experience with every Reolink camera I've ever used.

Without internet access the camera's stream can still be accessed on the LAN but you lose some key features; namely motion detection alerts.

Seal broke on arrival

This item has a seal that states do not accept if seal is broken. Well this arrived with a broken seal. What is the reason behind the sticker?

I'm very unhappy with this Reolink.

So I bought the system and a separate POE switch with Black Friday prices. Come to find out that this is not true, these POS cameras do not support POE.

This is the dumbest system I've ever seen to have ethernet ports in the back of it without POE functionality and to have cameras that have ethernet ports that do not support POE functionality with a separate switch.

I can confirm with a POE switch These cameras do not support POE.

What a gigantic waste of time and money Thanks for the horrible experience Reolink.

These will be going back.

If you were smart you would have made this NVR and or Cameras with POE. If I choose to use them with Wi-Fi, I will otherwise I should be able to have a system that supports both POE and Wi-Fi.

I would like to give this company zero stars for not having push rich picture notifications. Ring, Arlo, and Eufy do standard. I do not have time to look at every notification and open the app to see that the UPS man is here or a squirrel caused motion. This alone says this company is minor league and out of their domain. What a waste of time and horrible IT department.

Nice Camera With Easy Setup

This is a very nice camera overall. It's wireless, so you only need a power outlet and a good wifi signal to run it. It can be used on a network as well as wifi, if wifi is too far away, or is unavailable. The only bummer I've found on this camera is that it can't be powered by Poe (power over ethernet). More on that in a minute.

The setup is super-easy. You download and install the Reolink app, scan the cameras QR code, and then go through the setup wizard. You can connect to a wifi network if you choose, or use the ethernet connection. The image quality is really good at 4K so you are able to read text, see faces, etc.

This camera has a built-in speaker, so it can do alarms if you want to, and you can set AI-controlled alarms that look for people, cars, or animals. It also includes a pretty bright spotlight that you can use if you want to. it lights up a pretty good area as well.

One area that is really nice on this camera is the night vision. It's really responsive to low light, and when light levels come back up, it immediately goes back into what I call 'day mode'. Some cameras that I've tested hang in night vision mode, and the light washes out the video. This is problematic if a porch light or other light comes on at night, and can disrupt those cameras, and make the camera basically unusable.

Now, about the PoE. I wish this camera could be powered by PoE. I know, some people are going to say "What's the point of having a PoE-powered wireless camera?". I get that, but if it could be PoE powered, you can run outdoor ethernet cable up to 300 feet to power this camera in an area where you might not have a power outlet available. I understand that this would eliminate the wireless component, but even if you drop the distance to 25 feet, you would likely still have a wifi signal there, but would need to figure out how to get power to it. I think that would add flexibility to your camera placement. This is a minor point and doesn't affect my rating on this camera, which is a solid 5 stars. This is another fantastic Reolink product that you can't really go wrong with, so long as you have power available where you need to put this camera.
