I recommend this camera kit

I’ve been using this Reolink system for a while now and overall I’ve been very happy with it. I originally purchased the 6-camera 5MP kit with the NVR, and it has become the foundation of my home security camera setup.

The biggest advantage for me is having hardwired PoE cameras. I previously used solar-powered wireless cameras, and keeping batteries charged and maintaining a reliable connection became frustrating. With Reolink, I ran Ethernet to each location and now the cameras have a consistent connection and continuous power.

The image quality is very good for 5MP, including at night, and the NVR has been reliable. I’ve also expanded my system beyond the original six cameras and currently have 9 cameras connected, including cameras added over my network rather than directly to the NVR's PoE ports.

I also use my Reolink cameras with my broader smart-home/home-lab setup, including Home Assistant and Apple Home, which gives me more flexibility than simply using the NVR by itself.

Installation can definitely take some work if you're doing a full hardwired installation. Running Ethernet through an attic, exterior walls, around a garage, and into difficult areas was easily the hardest part. That's more of a PoE installation issue than a problem with Reolink itself, though.

Pros: Reliable PoE connection, good 5MP image quality, continuous recording, expandable system, local NVR storage, and works well with my smart-home setup.

Cons: Running Ethernet can be a lot of work, and understanding exactly how camera expansion works beyond the NVR's physical PoE ports could be explained better.

Overall, if you're comfortable running Ethernet and want a reliable local security camera system without depending entirely on Wi-Fi or batteries, I would definitely consider this Reolink kit again.

It’s worth the price!

Good quality for the price. Like how u can adjust the settings for detections and only detect what u want like our entry way. Have a busy street and only want cars detected when they pull in our driveway.. also Have a guard dog at our shop and last thing I want for it to get alert all the time.. app it’s easy to work. Just need to sit down and mess with the features. Once u get the hang it’s really reliable.

Good Quality/Price match

So far we are Very pleased with this system. Quality video, Good lighting for night viewing (though the bugs like the lights!), well thought-out intuitive functions, fairly accurate AI assessment of motions that trigger the 'occurrence' flag, and very good GUI in the 'Live View' mode. And it was essentially Plug-And-Play for the basic functions. The 2TB hard drive appears to hold about 1-weeks' worth of video (note: I'm not recording sound so that might skew the results a bit). I have to say, though, that crawling through the attic with the Ethernet cable wasn't pleasant, but it was a one-and-done effort.

There are a couple of downsides, but, they are not show-stoppers and I will still give a 5-star review. It just would have been nice to not have to deal with a couple of these items:

1) Playback Mode: Selecting a previous date for 'Playback' fails about 50% of the time on the first attempt. Some cameras load their video, others don't. Seems to be random which cameras load. However, by selecting the camera that failed to load and clicking the desired date a -second time- has been an effective solution. So far.

2) Playback Mode: The software skips automatically to each 'occurrence' of the type of motion you've selected (person/animal/vehicle) once you choose PLAY, which is nice. (And Kudos for playing several seconds before and after each trigger!) But in order to select a specific occurrence it's sometimes necessary to expand the area of interest. That is; it's sometimes necessary to narrow the overall -displayed- time period from 24 hours to 1 hour or so (by positioning the mouse in the time bar and scrolling the mouse to shrink or expand the viewing area) then positioning the cursor with the mouse in front of the desired location. Feels clumsy and not well thought-out. Would have been nice to have had some keyboard controls. For example: <Right Arrow> to increase review speed, <Left Arrow> to reduce review speed, <Tab> to skip to the next selected occurrence, <Shift><Tab> to skip to previous occurrence, something to expand/contract timeline, and others…

3) Communication: Figuring out how to get the system to 'Push' an alert for specific triggers to my phone (alert me for 'Person' or 'Vehicle', but not animals or bugs) has been challenging. And I can't see the cameras when my phone is not within the range of my home Wi-Fi (meaning, the camera views won't load when I'm using the phone network only). I still don't have all those issues worked out yet, but am cautiously optimistic. I just wish it wasn't so difficult to navigate in this particular area.

But overall, it's a good system, especially for the price (we bought the 8-port system w/ 6 cameras).

Honestly, my #1 complaint is Insects! Especially Spiders and their webs. They are attracted to the night-vision LEDs and the system flags their movements as an 'occurrence', even occasionally flagging the big ones as a person or a vehicle. Very frustrating. Working on some suggested solutions to dissuade their interference (Vapor rub, peppermint oil, pet lizards, etc.)

The spider and its web (see photo) continuously flagged the system. This one was flagged as a vehicle.

Remote monitoring cameras for 2nd home build

We installed 6 cameras for a 2nd home in Turkey. The location is rural so the only internet available is DSL at about 25Mbs download and only 2-3Mbs upload. However the Reolink NVR with 5MB cameras handles the constraint and works well. The only glitch was while their app works on my iPhone 15Pro, their latest app did not work on my MacBook Pro. Customer service helped me out by providing a link to download an earlier version( v8.8.5). Now it also works on my MacBook Pro also. Thanks Reolink!

No NVR storage detected

Good day, I purchased this system on black friday 2022 lightning deals. I had it installed 2 weeks ago. The system does not store any of the recordings since it's say "No storage detected on the NVR". This system was advised with a 2TB storage so I don't understand why it's saying no storage detected. I paid for 2TB of storage and I expect 2TB of storage.

Great System and Customer Service

System works great for me. Had a issue with one of the cameras getting condensation inside after several heavy rains. Sent their customer service a Email on Monday. I forgot to send them a picture of the camera initially and wrong camera model, so did a little back and forth until I got it right. They mailed it out on Wednesday and got the camera on Saturday. Couldn't ask for a better customer service response.

DO NOT BUY-Maybe, read my reviews

Update 5: After four years, all the original cameras with this system have died. The last remaining died yesterday. Unfortunately it is cheaper to purchase one replacement camera right now than purchase a new system. It looks like I am stuck with Reolink for a while. Now I am just waiting for the other cameras to die so I can finally change my system with another brand.

Update 4: I increased my rating to three stars because it is all working right now. It took almost a month but I have my six replacement cameras. So far they are all working. I am not sure how long they will last. As stated in one of my earlier updates, tech support is slow to respond since they are probably not located in the US. I did ship them the six broken cameras. It cost me almost $30 to send. I will strongly consider another brand if these all go bad again.

Update 3: I have been dealing with Reolink support for 18 days. 6 of my 8 cameras stopped working. Tech support takes 24 hours to get back with any reply so you must be patient. Who knows where they are located, probably not in the USA.

They sent 3 replacement cameras. I installed all 3 and they are working for now. Reolink says they will send the other 3 when I send them the 6 broken ones. I responded back with a big NO. I want them to send the remaining 3 before I send anything back. I am also going to refuse to pay to ship them their junk equipment. I am already looking at another brand to replace this junk equipment.

Update 2: four more cameras died. Still arguing with tech support to replace my cameras. I am down to 2 working cameras (I purchased 2 add-on cameras for this system, 1 of which has died)

Update: After seven months, cameras are dying. One died last week and four died today. This system is junk. I have been talking to tech support and they are replacing the broken camera from last week, but I have little faith that this system will last. I have no confidence in this system to keep my house safe. I attached a picture. I had seven cameras, now I am down to two.

This replaced an old system by another company. Running the new cable was easy since I used the old cables to pull the new ones through my attic and wall. Even without the old wire, the system would be easy to install. Setting up the system takes a little time but once you figure it out, its not bad. The phone app works very well. Easy to set up and easy to get motion alerts when I am not at home. The only issue I am having is fine tuning the motion sensitivity. Set it too high and the slightest changes in sun light will cause shadows which the system picks up as motion. You will get lots of alerts from your app. See it too low and you get nothing. So, I am still playing with it after a week or so. No big deal. The picture quality is much better than the system it replaces, even the night vision.

This is the third camera system I have installed. Two by another company and this one from Reolink. I would recommend the Reolink over a Night Owl system. The quality of the unit and the Android app are far better than what I used to have.

Great picture and audio!

The night vision is great. The motion sensors and audio are perfect. The picture quality is crystal clear. Only issue was one camera went out. The others are doing great! The app was easy to set up.

Great system, ask me if you need options for extending the reach of the mouse!

This NVR system works great. Two things they need to improve on are wireless mouse capabilities and the ability to connect to different types of cloud storage. Besides that everything works great and so far I have had no issues. Night vision is probably the best I have seen on a home surveillance system. I would recommend for the price and what I got.
