Not sure as yet still wondering if mine is defective, because I normally just put a DJI mic that works pretty good now, after I did my wedding recording am still leaning to my DJI but I have went through all the settings so am doing a test to make sure I set it up real good before I final decision about it, sure about the auto turn on feature which is great . But little bit more time ..

Good quality audio

One of the best mics I’ve ever had. Love how it turns on and off with camera. Last so long before having to charge

Huge dent in the foam

I opened up the brand new mic, and it had this ugly huge dent running along most of the length of the foam cover. For the price, I expect this to be pristine. I wound up returning it.

Came with it's own 3.5mm TRS cable.

The mic functions great, I only did a solo, self-narrating 5 minute recording in the first day that I've owned it. I enjoyed the audio color and quality of this microphone. Out of box the battery was charged and functional. It came with it's own USB-C to USB-C cable and the above mentioned required audio cable. The cable can be run nicely down through the microphone rest.

I knew I wouldn't be disappointed, it's a r∅de.

Great sound, great pickup, easy mounting, long battery life

I use this for videoconferencing mounted above my monitor and out of the frame of my camera. Really great sound and I can comfortably be 8 inches from the microphone. It runs off battery for about 10 days or so and turns on only when my camera is on. I turn the camera off and the microphone turns off also which is great for that battery life. I can't run it off a USB brick like I thought I would be able to because it picks up some hum in the recorded audio somehow. So after 10 days or so it runs flat and people complain that they can't hear me. I tried running it off a USB power battery but the internal battery lasts long enough that I dont bother. Because the power light is around the back of it, I can't see it without poking my head around. Anyhow, when that happens, I change to another microphone and plug this one into a USB brick.

Worth it?

I paid $255. Best buy sells this mic for $300. I was skeptical of ordering due to the repetitive 1 star reviews. I noticed those reviews are from years ago and decided to try it out. No regrets mic has work has fine so far. This mic is top notch and worth buying.

Cons

For some reason it looks scratched on the base but nothing to crazy.

A lot of reviews said that the foam had an indent and mine did too hut that is because of the wiring that is in the packaging. I plan on adding a dead cat so not even worried and it also does not affect its performance.

Extremely satisfied with my purchase. Frankly I was expecting the worst but glad that was not the case! Hope you all have the same experience.

If anything I will update my review

Came Open And Used

The dirty tape and dust and grime all over the mic… for $300 I want a new one.

The wire inside for the battery was bent when I got it.

The wire inside for the battery was bent when I got it. Had me stressing on why my comic was never turning blue from the start. I’m hoping they can send a replacement cause this was pretty pricy for me and thought it was the best mic for what I’m doing. I recommend buying from the RODE website or something else cause I did notice other people having the same issue

Great mic

I use this mic for my live tik toks where I play crystal singing bowls, tuning forks and more and this mic picks up my voice and the instrument sounds great as well. Top notch and so easy to charge and use.

I Guess No One Does Quality Control Anymore!!

I Just opened my "new" Rode Video Mic Pro Plus from Gear Nuts and it has a big dent in the black foam along with smaller dents going up the foam. I was really looking forward to receiving this microphone but when it showed up in horrible quality I was immediately disappointed.

This isn't a review on the actual microphone. I refused to test it because I paid for a brand new one.

Terrible Mic with defects loud hissing sound and without propper quality check

This mic is a joke. It's not worth 299$ that I've paid for it. I received a defective device and I can't use its Lithium battery. There's is a bent sharp contact inside which doesn't allow to insert that battery. If I push the battery any harder the terminal starts to bend even more and it also starts to scratch the battery and penetrate through its case. Even Chinese mics don't have such issues. I can't believe that Rode sank so low. More over the hissing sound is so loud on this mic. My Marshall's headphone mic for 100$ gives waaay better sound quality than this peace of equipment for 300$. I'm very disappointed with this purchase. Bought it for my YouTube channel but now I'm not sure if I'll use it for my videos.

Heavy off-axis coloration, excessive rear pickup

The VMP+ has a lot of great features but one fatal flaw in my opinion. If you look at the polar pattern you can see that it has an excessive amount of sensitivity directly behind the microphone. All hypercardioids have this problem to a degree. This sensitivity picks up operator noise and room reverberation. This causes a lot of boominess in off-axis sound in a reverberant space. Sounds from behind the mic are much more present than sounds to the side. This is one of the reasons I recommend cardioid microphones for on-camera use, they don’t have the rear lobe.

So close

This is the first time I have ever gotten an beat up package and I was not happy. Now I have a indent on the foam of the mic itself. It sounds okay in my opinion but I don’t know if the mic has been damaged or not.
