“Continuous Recording Not Supported”

The camera has good image quality. The motion detection works well, and you can adjust the sensitivity. The audio function isn’t the best and frequently my kids won’t hear me when I peak in and talk from work, or they say the sound is garbled and difficult to understand. You can disable the lights for more discrete recording, but the shutter makes this obvious clicking sound so people know even without the lights. The product is adequate, the service limitations are my issue.

I have young kids and I bought extra cameras to place around the house to monitor them and the sitter when I work weekends. I intended this as a nanny camera so it would record the entire time I was away when it detected motion. However, when the camera detects motion it will record for a maximum of one minute even if motion continues after the minute. For an alarm it’s 3 minutes. That’s it. Hopefully the intruder doesn’t stay any longer than that, because if he’s there 20 minutes the camera kicks off after the first 3 minutes and nothing else is recorded.

I chatted with customer service about the short video for a long time before they finally came out and admitted the limitations. The agent even said “continuous recording is not supported at this time” and “for continuous monitoring you may want to consider other security solutions that offer continuous recording capabilities.”

I got the camera to record what’s going on with my children when I’m not in the house. If an accident or incident occurs then this system will probably not provide any record that can be later reviewed. Similarity, if you’ve got an abusive spouse and you’re trying to gather evidence for an impending custody battle, this system is also not for you. Explore other options for your security solutions.

Be aware: Has a vulnerability issue

SimpliSafe has a vulnerability flaw with this specific camera. If you have a momentary power loss or fluctuation, the camera will lose its WiFi connection. There is no SD memory where the camera can reconnect without having to reset which may even require you to delete the camera from the base unit and going through the entire installation process again. Customer service was poor and unable to offer a solution, just apologized. So, now looking for another brand to replace my indoor cameras. This camera Simplisux and I cannot recommend it.

Save yourself the frustration

Constantly trying to connect and reconnect to wifi. Very long process to reset camera and reconnect to wifi. You have to do it multiple times before it works. Should not be the case in this century.

Not good quality bad customer service

Camera is not as superior as a ring cam and video quality and connectivity is horrible.

This model Wi-Fi camera has serious design flaw

I'm using this camera, at two different homes, with two different internet providers, with two different routers, placed at two different distances from the Wi-Fi router. With this SimpliSafe model camera, 20% - 30% of the time, you will have "lost video" issues with the camera!

Try searching online for issues like "SimpliSafe indoor camera lost video". Apparently they have not been able to fix this for several years.

Frequent disconnects and horrible motion detection - Don't waste your time

Absolutely horrible product. Don't waste your time with SimpliSafe, unless you plan on frequent spotty connectivity and LOTS of motion detection issues. The attached video is an example that I didn't get a notification on. I had to manually click the record button in the app to record the clip. It's that bad. I've owned three of their cameras total and all three have same issue, so it's not bad luck with faulty products. They're just not a good product.

I also have a mesh WIFI network throughout the house with the repeaters within 10-20 feet of the cameras. Even my doorbell camera will sometimes disconnect, although it's not near as bad as the cameras. The network test on the app always shows a good connection when tested, yet they still fail to work properly.

Came already linked to someone else’s account. Not new.

I love SimpliSafe products. However I purchased this “new” indoor camera and was unable to finish setting it up because it is already linked to another account. I contacted SimpliSafe support and they suggested I not purchase their products from third parties.

Camera does not work!!!

This is a bad camera. Note it is right next to the router and still will not connect. Spent countless hours trying connections at various locations, even directly next to two routers and no luck. Other camera works perfectly and has for 3 years. Extremely frustrating especially as I have read multiple reviews from several highly technical folks having the same issue. I am likely switching internal alarm/camera brands to Ring which we have outdoors. Two cameras outside and zero issues. Fix this, “Simplisafe” otherwise change your name. There is NOTHING simple about what I and several others have experienced with attempting to secure our homes with your DIFFICULT to install products.

Refurbished being sold as new.

One setup flawlessly. The second said it was registered to another account. Repackaged used cameras sold as new 😡

SimpliSafe is sending out a new camera. Doesn’t help me with my purchased system to guard things while I am on vacation next week.

It works suprisinglly well

These Simplisafe cameras were easy to install and get online with the system; never had any problems with image quality except if it is put on night vision mode (in night vision mode any light source will take over the focal field; best to leave that off).

The camera is compact in design and the included stand makes it easy to place either on table, wall mount, or windowsill. The price point is competitive with similar or equal features to its competitors.

Crisp picture

This cameras are easy to install and have a very clear picture even in the dark. They are a very decent value for the money. If you already own a simplisafe security system and need to add video, don't hesitate.

THIS CAMARA DIDNT WORK AT ALL

Camara was defective. Wouldn't connect to my system. I reached out to simply safe and it’s nothing they could do about it!
