Excellent Portable Key Light, Highly Versatile with Great Build Quality

This is an excellent portable light that works really well as a portable key light. I placed it on one of my portable 8 foot tripods and keep it in my bag when I am doing outdoor shoots. The quality of the light is very good in typical SmallRig fashion. I like the magnetic diffuser attachment. This light punches above its weight class. It has a digital display for adjustment, it charges up very fast, and it stays charged even in 80 degree weather while its built in fan is on. The fan appears to be quiet enough. I do not hear it even in a studio environment. The price is a little more than competitors, but I think it shows when you get it in your hands. The quality is very good. I recommend this highly versatile, bright, portable light.

Almost perfect.

There's a lot to like in the SmallRig RM 25C Mini LED RGB Video Light, 3100mAh Battery, HD LCD Display, 25W Portable Camera Light for Photographers, Content Creators, 2500K-10000K CRI 96 TLCI 99, Magnetic Mounting Diffuser - 5357. It is above all bright and it is Compact & Portable. The color temperature is adjustable between (2500K–10,000K) which should be plenty of range for almost any situation. The magnetic diffuser will allow you to use this with your wider angle lenses too. SmallRig gives you a lot of value for your money with this light.

My only criticism with the light is SmallRig placed the very small display screen on the top edge of the light rather than the back where you would expect it and when you use the magnetic diffuser it causes so much flare that you can't read the display. If you take the diffuser off then you can read the screen.

Compact adjustable brightness and color temperature LED light

The Smallrig RM 25C Mini LED RGB Video light is a compact powerhouse. This light can ramp up to over 3000lux at 0.5M, giving you plenty of light to work with for different situations. The light is fully adjustable down to brightness and color temperature, allowing you to add just the right amount of light into your scene, and match the color temp to the situation or other lights you are working with. The light is widely compatible with anything you want to throw it at, offering a traditional screw mount on the bottom, magnet on the back, or just placing it on a surface to point at an area you need it.

From a power perspective, this light throws out a TON of light and will draw down its battery pretty quick. It has an onboard fan which is variable rate, which you can hear change pitch depending on the brightness you set the light to. The light has a USB-C connection on the side for constant power or charging, which tops out over 25W when it's filling up. So you can run this standalone, or tie it into a power setup you are running with your camera.

In terms of weight, it's right at half a pound, which is lightweight, definitely noticeable when added to your kit. The light itself feels very well built and should last getting tossed around in your bag. The controls are all flat against the side and not sticking out, so you shouldn't be able to accidentally turn this on in your bag. Even if you flip the power switch up, you still need to rotate the dial to activate the light, ruling out chances of this turning on without you knowing about it.

Overall I really enjoy this light and it will become a part of my camera kit going forward. Highly versatile for a ton of situations, with plenty of options to get tuned in perfectly for what you need.

Bright, Bold, and Tiny-Hand Friendly (with one catch)

TL;DR

A high-quality, professional RGB light that makes a night-and-day difference in seconds. It’s perfect for detailed studio work and fits smaller hands well, but the lack of a lanyard is a safety risk for solo handheld shooting.

Review

This SmallRig Mini LED literally works right out of the box—it even arrived with a nearly full charge. The interface is intuitive, making it a breeze to switch between modes while holding it. As someone with notoriously tiny hands, I find the size is actually perfect and very comfortable to grip.

The "aha!" moment happened in my studio while testing it on a white candle mold. I did a quick side-by-side: one shot without the light, and one with it. It was a one-second setup, but the difference was huge! However, that's exactly when I noticed the problem. While I was busy turning the spout of the mold to get the right angle, I realized there is no lanyard—not even a hole to thread one through.

As a lefty/ambidextrous creator doing solo shoots, I’m usually juggling a Nikon in one hand and a light in the other. Without a lanyard for security, I’m always one "brain fart" away from dropping the light while adjusting my subject. It’s a strange oversight for such a portable tool, so I docked a star for the inconvenience.

Aside from that, the quality is top-notch for the price. Between the magnetic mount, the diffuser cap, and the endless color options, it’s a blast to use for dramatic art shots. It’s quick to charge. light and definitely Gen X approved—just keep a firm grip on it if you aren't using a tripod!
