Stay away from this product

The product quality of my product at least is bad. After a few monthes of use it has serious problems reading cds. When I insert a cd the unit gets stuck at READ, when you get to start de cd (after reinitiating the unit several times) it just play music for a few seconds. I’m using the correct power source.

Buena opción

Buena compra.

So far so Good!

It took a long time to arrive, almost 2 months, but it was worth it! I used it to replace a legacy Sony CD changer who was starting to fail and took a lot of space. In comparison this little SMSL is very compact but it seems really well built and sturdy. It works really well, the included RC really upgrades the experience and functionality. I have my player connected through RCA to my WiiM Amp and the sound is great! Even with scratched cds. Its reasonable price, solid performance and small footprint makes this player hard to beat in its category.

Very Nice..

Love this thing. So far it is doing very well and operating smoothly. Very nice display and I love the fact that it DOES NOT auto-start just because I turn the unit on or put a disc in it - I've always been highly annoyed with auto starting CD players that simply start playing when I might not want it to; especially when it interrupts the current playing of another device due to an auto sensing mechanism.

I've experience 0 scratching on my discs either via the in/out slot - this slot is made of up two-sided felt that the disc is naturally pulled through; so if debris or grit of some sort were to get into the felt I supposed fine scratches could result. This is NOT a defect in the unit though, rather it's just something that could happen due to the overall design of a slot-loading CD player in general.

Not sure about the sound quality with its DA conversion through the RCA outputs since I'm am using it as a transport out of the optical port. I suspect it would be excellent though.

To add, the unit is all metal and quite robust, and substantial feeling. I believe the shipping weight was almost 3 lbs.

Price/quality CD player.

Excellent product, the analog output sounds good and the digital offers the flexibility for a more sofisticated setup.

The front panel is more aesthetic than the PL100 and matches with the SMSL A300 amplifier much better in width. The controls in the front panel and the remote are straightforward to use.

It feels well built in terms of the case material and weight.

Nice CD Player/Transport!

Well built, quality CD player at a reasonable price!

I also have the PL100 and didn’t have any problems with it but I bought the PL150 because it has a much nicer design imo. I connected it via Optical to my SMSL RAW-MDA1 DAC and the sound quality is fantastic! It took a few attempts before I found a power adapter that worked.. an old Apple one finally did the trick. The USB ports on my power strip were insufficient even though the specs seemed to match the requirements. If your adapter is too powerful the screen will display the word ‘BLOCK’. So the PL150 seems a bit more finicky about the power supply than the PL100 was.

Comparing the performance of the 2 devices.. they’re pretty much identical. It’s just a different front panel layout as far as I can tell. They’re stating it’s an upgraded DAC chip, however I watched a tear-down video of the PL100 and it contained the same one. Gapless playback works for me on both units. It plays regular CDs and MP3 CDs, but seems to struggle for me with MP3s that are organized into folders. I wish it handled that better.

One other little annoyance is with the remote. You have to be directly in front of the device before it recognizes your button presses.
