Fancy and capable remote control

This is a functional and versatile remote control. It has nearly limitless capabilities for programming because it can learn iR signals from remotes that are not included in the vast database of registered remotes. There is a learning curve with figuring out how to program this thing, but the app based programming using your phone really helps make it easier. As with a lot of universal remotes this one also has a lot of buttons, however they seem to be logically placed. One way this remote keeps everything organized and manageable is the catalog of programmed remotes that you can choose between on the LCD display. Further, you can program macros using different remotes to create a streamlined function or scene. I like that this remote can be recharged via a USB and it will last a long time before needing to charge again. So far I haven't been able to get my Bluetooth functionality from this remote, but the iR features work flawlessly. With a bit more of a deep dive in the programming, I'm sure I can figure it out. This remote is basically over the top for the televisions, video, and audio devices I have in my home, but I'm sure it will be somewhat future-proof with updates and added remote control databases available from the app. Basically, this is a very capable remote that can be intimidating at first, but convenient and easy to use once you dial in the programming and macro functions.

Great universal remote

Easy to set up, much better than having several remotes, easy to change. A little pricey but worth it imo

Better than expected!!

Works great. U don't know why people keep complaining about this remote. You can even teach it to control your a/c, fan, etc. (if you have those remote controllers)

Useless with an APP which is useless without giving the company your email address

Very disappointed in this product since the product description of "with APP" never says "requires APP". I'm not completely opposed to an APP but when that APP requires "logging in" for no good reason, I draw the line. The unit should ship with the latest database at time of manufacturing and if the user wants an UPDATE to that, maybe an APP is reasonable but there's no reason it should be anything other than anonymous.

The remote as delivered merely says that "No Devices Found" and "Add Device in App" and no combination of buttons unlocks it. Searching the internet says this is by design - had I known that, I would never have chosen this remote.

Good price for what you get

I feel that after using this remote, the hub that the other models offer isn't really necessary. Especially useful for someone who isn't tech savvy, you just set it up for them and the usage of the remote is pretty simple afterwards. It feels very lightweight with its all plastic body. Screen actually has color now compared to the X1S even though it's not touchscreen. Scroll wheel feels very sturdy and comfortable to use. Crazy battery life, I've been getting like 2-3 weeks before I need to charge it. The BT and infrared database is extensive, had all my devices already ready to go. Fantastic price for what you get and it would be perfect if I could use I.P based control with it but it unfortunately doesn't.

Beware

It keeps restarting. This is the second remote and this was a complete waste of money.

Buyer beware.

Beware. Completely resets for absolutely no reason. Guess I’m changing channel too fast. But this is my second unit. First one did the same thing. I wasted my money. Do not recommend

Initial Quality Leaves Much To Be Desired

First impression on quality is not good. There is a significantly deep nick on the touchscreen itself that’s visible in the light and when the remote is on. It feels pretty deep too. It was under the sloppy pre-installed screen protector. I didn’t even get a chance to set it up because I refused the moment I saw that right out of the package. The build quality feels solid, but I can’t give more information until they process this return (which triggered a longer than normal replacement inquiry). So far, not looking great.

High quality database programmable remote control

Have used three different SofaBaton universal programable remote control models, including this U3, the X2 and the X1S model. Have found all to be high quality and very versatile. This U3 model is a decent alternative to some of the Logitech Harmony remotes that are no longer being supported. Sofabaton customer support has been much better than most companies when I had questions.

LIKES:

Functionality is strong, with lots of devices supported.

Is backlit. Easy to program for owners accustomed to programming remote controls from a database.

Better scrolling than previous versions.

Smooth volume control and good tactile button feel.

DISLIKES:

Too many U3 versions are sold, most without a dock.

Sofabaton's metal remotes, like the X2, feel better made and nicer. Overall a good value for a pretty complete, and moderately priced universal remote control. Recommended.

SofaBaton - Real control, Real Good

SofaBaton U3 — first impressions

I have a fairly elaborate home theatre setup, and the last thing I need is another remote that makes operating it more complicated. The idea is to simplify things, not add another gadget to manage.

First impressions of the U3 are really good. Clean design, a decent-sized screen and, importantly, proper physical buttons. I like having volume, navigation and playback controls right there rather than having to do everything through a touchscreen. It looks like a remote designed to be used, not just look fancy on the table.

These are first impressions, so I’m reserving judgement on battery life, compatibility and everyday reliability until I’ve properly tested it with my setup. But I like what I see so far.

For me, the real measure of a good universal remote is simple: can the other remotes go into a drawer and stay there? That’s what matters. And somehow SofaBaton devices have always managed to help me do that successfully!

Three remotes have failed in 10-months. ##DO NOT BUY##

Let's see, I originally purchased the U2 remote last year and it just suddenly stopped working earlier this year. Then I bought the new U3 remote. It has since stopped working. I then bought this third remote and now the screen has gone bonkers like it was smashed but it has never fallen onto the floor in the few weeks that I've had this remote.

This is my third and last remote that I will ever order from SofaBaton. It's clear that they do not have quality control and are making an inferior product.

One remote having problems is a rare situation but every remote I have purchased in less than a year just stopped working for some reason or another.

This product blatantly suffers from poor product quality and or quality control. I guess this is what I get for going with a low to mid-range product.

Also, the lithium battery does not hold a charge for very long so you constantly have to charge it or buy the cradle for 30 bucks and keep it in that. Again just another cheap decision made by the company.

What else is there?

So far so good. I do like the programming over the harmony with the app. The remote sits in the hand well and operates everything programmed to it confidently. I have all my original remotes so getting everything exactly the way I wanted was a breeze. Teach it the command it's missing and all is right. I do feel like they could have done more with the screen. Different fonts and the ability to adjust font size would be a good start. I'm not a fan of rechargeable batteries in remotes and controllers but we'll see how it goes over time. I did notice they have a dock for it because of course they do. Ten remotes and the GOAT Harmony 650 have been retired. If it wasn't for my Shields I'd ride out with the Harmony and yes CEC through the TV operates them just not as snappy as Bluetooth. I'm anxious to see this three week battery life claim. This review is for a second unit as the first went dead in two days. I'd recommend it but only because what else is there? That's all.

One of the best universal remotes we've used!

I wasn't expecting to be this impressed with a universal remote, but this one really surprised me. I've used plenty of universal remotes over the years, and this is easily the most advanced one I've come across. It feels much more like a modern piece of tech than just a replacement remote.

The first thing I noticed was the overall size and feel. It fits nicely in my hand, isn't excessively bulky, and the buttons are laid out in a way that makes sense. The scroll wheel is a particularly nice touch, and once you get used to having it, going back to a basic remote feels a little primitive.

The screen is probably my favorite feature. It adds a lot of functionality without making the remote feel overly complicated. I also like the air mouse functionality and the ability to connect to multiple types of devices. Having Bluetooth and IR capabilities in the same remote gives you a lot of flexibility, especially if you have a more complicated home entertainment setup.

Setup was easier than I expected. The instructions are actually useful, which isn't something I always take for granted with electronics like this. The app gives you plenty of customization options without making the whole process feel unnecessarily complicated. I was able to get everything configured without spending hours trying to figure out what the remote was supposed to do.

The voice control is another nice bonus, and I like that it can work with Google Assistant. It's not something I use for every interaction, but when you want to quickly control something without navigating through a bunch of menus, it's genuinely useful.

Pros:

Extremely advanced compared with a typical universal remote.

The screen adds a lot of useful functionality.

Good size and comfortable feel in the hand.

Scroll wheel and air mouse are both useful features.

Supports multiple connection types, including Bluetooth and IR.

The app provides a good amount of customization.

Setup is relatively straightforward.

The included instructions are actually clear and helpful.

Voice control is a nice addition.

Cons:

There is definitely a learning curve because it has so many features compared with a traditional remote.

Some people may find all of the customization options unnecessary if they just want a basic remote.

Overall, I’m really impressed with this remote. It has a premium feel, the feature set is excellent, and it makes managing multiple devices much easier. The screen, scroll wheel, air mouse, Bluetooth connectivity, and customization options make this feel like a significant step up from the typical universal remote. If you're someone who has multiple devices to control and wants one remote to handle everything, I would absolutely recommend this one.

Great budget alternative for decluttering remotes despite some RF limitations

The SofaBaton U3 is a really good budget alternative if you want to consolidate a table full of controllers without breaking the bank. It feels sleeker and better designed than most of the cluttered standard remotes it replaces, even if it is not quite as nice or premium as some of the higher-end, full-color, metal-body SofaBaton models. The hardware is very responsive in daily use, and the central scroll wheel makes toggling between saved equipment straightforward.

The initial programming requires some patience, as building out your macros or syncing equipment through the mobile app is a multi-step process, though the app does a good job of guiding you through the steps. While it handles standard IR and Bluetooth gear reliably, I struggled to set up some RF remotes, specifically for my generic ceiling fans. This model only takes two specific RF frequencies, and while I don't know which, if either, of those frequencies the generic fan remote used, the U3 wouldn't pick up any of the signals. However, it works exceptionally well with all my normal brand-name equipment, including some older air conditioners, not to mention all the TV and media boxes in the house. Overall, if you need a cost-effective, highly responsive remote to clean up your living room setup, it offers fantastic value and an entry step into the SofaBaton universe which you can expand down the line with more complex setups like higher-end remotes, hubs, and IR repeaters.

Your Buddy AJ

I’m not really impressed with much here, even though it does mostly work.

This is a one size fits all remote that can mostly control all of your devices, just not perfectly. Each TV, Audio Player, Stream Box, Sound System or whatever else all have unique features and a remote tailored to all of their primary functions. This remote, while it will control almost everything, is a bit generic since it’s meant to be a do it all item.

Programming is 2026 simple via using the app, but I’m with the other user that had a problem with them farming emails through creating an account to setup their app. There really IS NO REASON to need to create an account to program a remote. It’s stupid, but this is what these oversea companies like to do.

That aside, the app does make it easy and is pre populated with tons of models that they’ve provided or ones users themselves have generated.

It would learn the volume and channel up or down, but not the arrows, menu button, back button and others. This effectively rendered it useless for my case because that is the primary remote I use.

Overall, I don’t think I would recommend it, especially not for the associated cost.

Easy to both set up to control everything and then operate everything

The SofaBaton U3 Universal Remote Control is good quality being made from resilient plastics. It has a narrow and slim profile so not feels good in your hand. It is recommended to fully charge the remote control before programming. Using a super fast USB C charger it took under half an hour to bring it to full charge. That's is a very good and quick recharge time.

I am always searching for the right remote control and trying to remember which source is on which input. Also in constantly having to work things for my wife as well. The programmable remote has solved all those issues.

Programming using the app was much more straightforward forward than I expected. I was quickly able to get my surround sound receiver, tv, Roku and Tello box identified in the app and controlled by the remote. After digging deeper into the programing I was able to add macros which is a single button that does multiple commands. In one push I can turn on the TV, turn on the surround sound receiver, set the proper inputs and get an image in the screen with sound from the speakers. This used to take fooling with 3 or 4 remote controls and pushing half a dozen buttons. Much better than before.

After using the app to reorganize buttons on the screen of the remote it is now super simple to use everything. Most importantly my wife likes it too commenting it very easy to use.

The programmable remote control functions well providing fast and easy set up with easy use and long battery life. The SofaBaton U3 Universal Remote Control is a good value for the money.

Works with Samsung TV

I set this up (so far) to work with my Samsung S95D tv. All the controls work just fine and now I can also switch HDMI inputs much faster.

I like this remote a lot.

But there are two reasons I took off 2 stars.

-1 star because they require you to give them an email address to setup an account, and a product like this does not need to farm your emails.

-1 star because the claimed battery life is a bit off from what I actually got. Maybe this could be improved with a scrollx to wake the screen but a lift to wake the regular buttons and work. This the screen does not need to be taking battery life every time the user uses the remote.

Fix these two issues and this seems like a 5 star product to me.

Great Universal Remote That Replaced My Remote Collection

I've been very happy with the SofaBaton U3 remote. The setup took a little time, but the app made it easy to add my devices and customize the buttons the way I wanted. I really like being able to control multiple devices with one remote instead of keeping several on the coffee table.

The backlit buttons are a nice touch for watching TV at night, and the rechargeable battery means I don't have to keep buying batteries. Overall, it feels well made, works reliably, and has made my entertainment setup much more convenient. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a versatile universal remote.

Powerful universal remote with lots of potential, but macros feel like yesterday's solution.

I got this to consolidate the growing pile of remotes in our living room, and overall it's been successful. It connected to most of my devices without much trouble, and having everything controlled from a single remote is incredibly convenient.

The hardware itself is nice. The screen is easy to read, the rechargeable battery is a big improvement over constantly replacing AAAs, and the backlit buttons are great for watching TV in a dark room. I also appreciate being able to customize buttons and control a wide variety of devices from one remote.

The biggest downside is how heavily it relies on macros for activities. They work, but they also feel like an older approach that may become less relevant as streaming platforms and smart home ecosystems continue to evolve. I'd much rather see more intelligent, state-aware automation than long sequences of button presses.

If you do use macros, my biggest advice is to build in some safeguards. I found it's worth starting important activities with commands like Home, along with short delays where needed. If one device doesn't make it back to the expected home screen (or doesn't fully finish navigating), the rest of the macro can quickly get out of sync.

I also wish SofaBaton went further with customization. More app-specific icons, colors, and branding would make the interface feel much more polished. I use apps like Plex and HDHomeRun regularly, and being able to assign recognizable icons instead of generic labels would make everyday use much nicer.

Setup is definitely more time-consuming than I'd like, but once everything is configured, it works reliably.

Overall, this is a capable universal remote that replaces a stack of remotes and supports an impressive range of devices. It isn't perfect, and I'd love to see a more modern approach to activities and customization in future versions, but at this price point it's one of the better universal remote options available. Would recommend.

Simple With Flexibility

I have been using my Apple TV remote with my LG TV for a while now, but things started to fall apart when the LG wanted to do a firmware update and the Apple TV remote had no way to respond to the dialog box. I had to just wait it out. I finally fished out the old LG remote, but now I'm using two remotes and hate that. Enter the SofaBaton U3.

This thing was dead simple to program and works with both my LG's IR and the Apple TV's Bluetooth. It lets me seamlessly control both by simply selecting the device I want and using the buttons. This is more impressive than it sounds: the LG uses IR and the Apple TV uses Bluetooth, and the U3 handles both (along with a third type of RF remote).

Basically, if you have a stack of remotes and want to consolidate down to one, this is a great solution. If you want to do advanced scenes, activities, or automations, SofaBaton makes other remotes for that, but the U3 shines for simple control and setup. It does allow macros if you want to dive a little deeper, but that wasn't what I needed for this TV. For my needs, this was perfect!

Solid Universal Remote Option but No Touchscreen

Universal remotes used to be quintessential items for home entertainment but suddenly seemed to disappear with the advent of streaming, WiFi, and Bluetooth remote technology. However, I still have a home theater sound system, DVR, and TV that requires three different remotes so people like me still need them and this U3 SofaBaton remote gets the job done.

Pros: It has the ability to control almost any device such as IR, Bluetooth, and RF with the exception of WiFi. The setup process for adding devices is pretty simple, which is done through a phone app. I was easily able to find every device I have in its database, even some that are over a decade old, and the auto assigned buttons were intuitive and worked for the most part. The remote buttons can easily be modified and it can learn commands from existing remotes by simply pointing them at each other and following the app’s instructions. The macro system allows you to easily customize routines by stringing together actions through a single press of the button or onscreen selection. For example, I have one routine that turns on everything and then sets the TV input correctly and brings up my DVR list. The remote buttons are soft with a springy feel and backlit with a color LCD screen at the top that quickly and responsively sends signals to devices. The remote has a built-in rechargeable battery via USB-C and stays charged for weeks with an auto remote shutoff when idle to save battery life and auto wake feature when picked up.

Cons: The color LCD screen is not a touchscreen and is controlled using a scroll wheel that can be depressed for making a selection. This feels outdated and cumbersome when almost everything is touchscreen now. While the setup app is easy to use, it’s somewhat limited in its abilities and unnecessarily time consuming. For instance, I wanted to add a streaming service to my remote’s favorites but it wasn’t in the default list, or another example, using the remote only control volume using my receiver required me going to every device and changing the volume buttons individually. I remember having a universal remote that automatically set that up with one option years ago.

Overall, this U3 SofaBaton universal remote is a solid solution that I would recommend if you can lives with the cons I outlined above.

Easy to setup and very functional remote

I have a universal remote, but I always find that the battery drains very quickly. Since it takes 4 AA batteries, I go through them quite often. I love that this remote is charged via USB-C. Once you download that app, I was able to find my devices by brand and model numbers. It was able to register all of the different devices I have (receiver, Blu-ray player, and TV). I need to see how to program the remote to work with my existing IR extender, but once that's done, everything should be easy to operate. All of the buttons are responsive, and I just have to remember that it is not a touchscreen. However, with both voice control and a pointer, it easily replaces my Magic Remote for my LG TV. I forgot to peel off the screen cover when I took the photo, but when it's backlit, you can see all of the devices. Just remember that you have to use the wheel to select the device you wish to control.

Easier Charging

We recently got the U3 remote and when this came up I thought it would be a lot more convenient for charging and less stress on the USB-C port on the controller.

I wish the stand was a bit heavier as it is pretty light. It would have been helpful if they had weights on the bottom for stability. I also had the issue like other people where the included USB plug in wall charger isn't providing enough power for the controller to charge properly.

When we first put the controller on the battery indicator had just changed to red. It gave the indication it was charging and when I checked on it a little later it said it was at 50%. A couple of hours later I looked at it again and it was still at 50%. I left it a bit longer and it still hadn't moved from 50%.

I don't know if it was just charging really slowly or just stopped at the 50%. I could have left it overnight to see but I just ended up grabbing a different charger and it finished charging just fine after that.

It's been working just great after I used my own charger instead of the one it came with.

I'm still going to rate it 4 Stars as it is a lot more convenient then hooking a cable up to it to charge it and I have plenty of USB chargers around. If it was heavier and came with a working charging brick I would have given it 5 Stars.

If I didn't have so many chargers I probably would have been more irritated and rated it a 3.

Some people seem to have gotten working power bricks so perhaps they got a bad batch. Just know there is a chance the charger included might not work.

Must have accessory for U3 remote

It also arrived much faster than it would have if I had ordered directly from SofaBaton, which was a nice bonus.

The dock makes charging the U3 much more convenient. Instead of plugging and unplugging a USB cable every time, I can just drop the remote into the cradle when I’m done using it. Setup was quick and straightforward, and it worked perfectly right out of the box.

My only real complaint is that it isn’t compatible with a silicone case. If you keep your U3 in a protective sleeve, you’ll need to remove it before placing the remote on the dock. Aside from that, it’s an excellent accessory. I’m a big fan of SofaBaton products—I also own the X2 remote—and this charging dock is a great companion that makes the U3 even more enjoyable to use.

Completes the U3 Remote Experience

If you own the SofaBaton U3 remote, this charging dock is a worthwhile addition. It fits the remote perfectly and gives it a dedicated place to live instead of leaving it on a table or couch where it can easily get misplaced.

Charging is as simple as dropping the remote onto the dock, making it easy to keep it topped off and always ready to use. I also like that it uses a USB-C power input, so it integrates nicely with the rest of my entertainment setup without requiring anything special.

Overall, this dock makes the U3 feel like a more complete product. It's well designed, works exactly as intended, and adds both convenience and a cleaner look to a home theater setup.

Should've been included with the remote

Not an absolute vital piece of equipment if you have a U3 remote but its super super nice to have. Really completes the look of the remote especially if you have decided that the U3 will be your home theater remote.

It is extremely light and because of that, the base might actually end up slightly moving whenever removing or placing the remote from the dock. I wish there was an added weight almost in order to keep it still. The remote is nice and secured when placed and it has no issues with the charging working. I've had issues before with other docks for other remotes (even the expensive ones) where the charging only works sometimes so you end up having to place it and then remove it until it starts charging.

Like I mentioned before, its not absolutely necessary since you can just charge the remote with a regular usb-c cable but it is nice to have.

Perfect Charging Base for Your U3

The new U3 Univeral Remote from SofaBaton is the perfect remote for small to medium home theaters. With its extensive IR and Bluetooth device support it works well.

The remote is rechargeable and has a good internal battery. When it is time to recharge, SofaBaton supplies a USB-C cable to plug it in. For at least 3 hours.

Im a bit lazy when it comes to charging like this - but luckily SofaBaton offer a fairly inexpensive charging dock for the U3. It comes with its own USB power supply, USB cable and of course the dock itself.

The dock is small, low profile so it fits in any location in your TV viewing area.

The SofaBaton U3 sits in it nicely and the dock can charge and keep your remote close by.

The construction is good and a small white LED lets you know it has power - ready to charge your U3.

It’s well worth the small investment for ease of use with your U3.

J

well constructed and thoughtfully packaged

The SofaBaton Charging Dock for the U3 Universal Remote is a well-made accessory that does exactly what it’s designed to do. The dock feels sturdy and stable, and I appreciated that it comes complete with both the power adapter and charging cable, so there’s nothing extra to purchase before using it.

Setup is simple—just connect the dock and place the remote in the cradle for charging. It provides a clean, organized place to store the remote and ensures it’s always charged when needed.

That said, the dock’s usefulness depends a lot on where you typically keep your remote. If your couch or viewing area isn’t near a power outlet, you may find yourself relocating the dock to a less convenient location or not using it regularly. For those who already have a habit of placing their remote near an outlet or entertainment center, the charging dock is a convenient addition. Otherwise, it may be more of a nice-to-have accessory than a necessity.

RIP Harmony, long live Sofabaton!

Several all-in-one AV remotes tried to fill the void when Logitech finally stopped making the Harmony remotes but none were able to, until now. The loss of the Harmony line was mourned by a loyal group of users (me included) as it was one of the first easily programmable remotes that was function based as opposed to device based. I was a fan from the very beginning of this functionally based approach to device control which utilized macros to execute integrated functions such as “watch tv” as opposed to having to use the remote to control each individual component separately. As a matter of fact, I was one of the first to purchase the original Harmony SST-768 back in Las Vegas CES 2003 directly from the Canadian founders and inventors of Harmony when they were first introducing it to the US market and years before it was bought out by Logitech. Since that time the Harmony line of remotes have developed a particularly dedicated and loyal following as it remained the only remote that utilized this function based approach. With that in mind, as a long-term Harmony user that was extremely disappointed when Logitech discontinued the line, I can say that this Sofabaton U2 remote is a worthy successor to the Harmony (Logitech) remote. The Sofabaton U2 is a fantastic replacement to the Harmony and I suspect that it will be heartily embraced by past Harmony users.

The Sofabaton comes nicely packaged in a sturdy box and is similar in size to the Logitech Harmony 670 as can be seen in the photos. It has a very ergonomic form that fits your hand very comfortably and (although it doesn’t quite show in my photos, my photos don’t do the glossy finish justice) has a very classy piano black finish. It impressively allows you to integrate the functions of up to 15 devices (I am using it to control and coordinate 10 AV devices) which exceeds the capacity of even the beloved Harmony remotes. In addition, it is programmed via an app via bluetooth (so no need for any specialized cables). The database of supported devices is extremely extensive, and it is also a learning remote should your device not be among the 500,000 devices covered! I believe that for the modest price (given how much remotes with similar functionality cost) this is the best universal remote for the price. It is motion activated and has a scroll wheel to access the different devices you have programmed via an oled display at the top of the remote. There are four buttons that can be made to run macros or as short cuts. Unfortunately, these macro buttons can only access those functions programmed on the physical buttons so it may still be somewhat difficult to switch between multiple inputs if needed on a couple of devices (e.g., you need to switch your TV input while also switching inputs on your AV receiver). A great feature is that the motion activation also lights up each of the buttons making it easy to use in a darkened room. The remote itself has a very classy piano black finish, giving it a very expensive look. However, the glossy piano black finish does tend to pick up fingerprints and smudges readily. Another minor complaint is that the numeric key pad buttons may be a little small and closely spaced for those with fatter fingers. Unfortunately, this “budget” Sofabaton does not have voice control (you have to pay about 3x as much to get the X1 model) but for $69.99, I consider this very reasonably priced given its capabilities. All in all, a great universal remote that is easy to program, very versatile, good looking and ergonomic, with the ability to consolidate several remotes into one. 5 stars, highly recommended.
