RUFFIANREVIEWS
small 'slaps' machine ππΏ
Alright so! I love it!
Pros:
-8 Tracks (each track can have their own sequence lane yet still play at the same time)
-5-din midi instead of cornball trs-midi lol. (I hate those because of midi A vs midi B)
-Quarter inch I/Os
-pads & velocity feel really good to play
-intuitive workflow (I can get ideas out quick because there aren't much workflow hurdles)
-2-mode variable sample rate (12k & 24k), -40secs of Sample time is perfectly reasonable for getting sounds in there (especially if you speed the samples up)
-The visual MIXER,
-the D-pad (goodness it's breezy to move through the functions on this)
Cons:
-USB micro (y'all still got anything of those lying around anymore lol?)
-the file converting system of importing samples (I tend to record everything in anyway, but for some people this might be really annoying)
-The knobs (although it is nice to be able to click them in for extra function, they are very small and normal trim toppers do not fit them.)
-The volume knob and the master volume knob are two different knobs. The clear knob is actually the master volume knob & The BPM/tempo knob. So if you're running these through The headphone output only, The knob that says 'volume' only controls that audio. It was a little confusing when I first used this lol
Overall: Its a very functional sampler. The 8 tracks with the ability to add efx to each track is a clutch feature for something in this price range, and with the new firmware 1.5 update, they've expanded some of these features and visual help for anyone who just bought this (like me). But yeaa I loved this Sampler. The reason I didn't bring up sound quality though was because of the fact that it's completely up to your taste. I personally don't mind the lower resolution sound quality (That's literally the point of the sampler), But I will say that this might not be to some people's taste. So I wouldn't say it's a pro or a con lol
Shouts out to Dr. Yu Endo! I want another one lmao.
I come from the SP-404MK2 & Roland Aira P-6 and I will say this is way easier to use than those.
