SOOMFON Stream Controller / Exceptional Convenience

Amazingly Convenient!

This gem is one of the coolest techie gadgets I've ever found, and with some true practical everyday use!

Setup might seem a bit tricky at first. However, once I got used to the navigation and programmed a few buttons, it was quite easy to get lots of my favorites setup.

So far, I've setup four screens. A combo screen, a shopping screen, a video streaming screen, and a music & gaming screen.

I plan on setting up a screen for my Corel Draw and graphics, one for my Microsoft Office and such, and another for my digital creation apps & programs.

The stream controller is completely customizable and offers endless ways to organize apps & programs into a quick & easy singular access point.

I'm enjoying it and would highly recommend it! It looks great and is easy to read in bright light, dim lighting, or complete darkness. And for us "Boomers", it saves time over locating icons on a huge or busy desktop.😃

Good hardware, difficult to install software.

Mixed feeling on this one but let me start with the hardware build and quality are good. The lcd buttons are clear and bright. They also have a good tactile feel and work well. The software also is easy to use and very flexible, once you can find compatible software. This same device is sold by under several different names and while they all point to the same software I found that the individual drivers are different. No drivers are included and the link provided is a site that no longer exists. It took me a good hour of research to find the correct controller software that works with this model. For the amount of frustration this caused the price should be lower. Ignore the directions or the brand name on the front and look up the small print and model number stamped on the back. I do wish it was a little larger but don’t we all, I still told my wife it is twelve inches as shown in picture.

Práctico.

Útil y cómodo, tiene un software similar que el streamdeck de El gato, así que se puede puentear la aplicación y usar cosas del streamdeck en este. Buenos materiales, buenos botones y práctico.

Easy to use well-made controller deck

Super easy to set up. Works very well program is easy to use. Does not take up much space on the desk. Works with multiple layouts you can make multiple pages of what is needed on it and you can scroll through your pages when you add pages onto the app. It connects easily into a USC. You can set it up for music you can set it up for gaming. You can set it up for streaming and everything else. I would strongly recommend looking at this to help you navigate through your programs on your computer.

Want an Elgato Stream Deck? No you don't, you want this instead...probably.

This is amazing! Trust me, this will do everything you want it to do and you don't have to pay the premium for the Elgato StreamDeck. Yes this is a direct comparison between the two since that's essentially what they are. First yes the build "quality" isn't as good as it but it's surprisingly good considering the lower price. The buttons are a little squishy BUT quiet (which might be why they are squishy and is intentional), responsive (no noticeable latency), and you do need to secure it to a base to make it feel right but I really can't find any other complaints about it. Makes me think you're paying for something else when you pay more for the StreamDeck... And yes, you are.

First of all, the software for this is SOLID and has a enough available apps to definitely get you where you need (OBS/Game hotkeys/Macros) and you don't need to worry about wasting money on it. Now for a direct comparison of the Elgato marketplace vs this one, well there's more there. That doesn't mean you can't build your own tools for this one since the dev kit is available and well documented (it really needs some professional videos and tutorials though) but if you're looking for a specific solution you don't have to build yourself, be sure to check their app library online first. There was plenty for me so it's up to your needs.

I wanted to give them 4 stars because I know it's not perfect but then I realized that it does everything and more that I wanted for a fraction of the price. I was even able to create buttons to do web API requests to my smart home stuff and set lights for recording and turn on my "recording" indicator so everyone knows to they can just ignore that and make even more noise BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY DO! ... but that's not this device fault.

I recommend it to everyone that creates content

Im a content creator and this thing has made it easier to record my videos. The only gripe i have about it had nothing to do with the product. If your using OBS studios you have to reset the connection from OBS to the Stream Controller everytime you open OBS.

Great Bang for your buck for real. The Quality and customizability is amazing!! You can change the picture on the screen to any picture you want. It functions amazingly. You can upload functions to this by going to the App and changing what you want to controll. I dont find a latency when I click the button. Its compatible with both of my laptops. I have both a Mac and Windows. Its perfect for both.

I recommend it for people that are looking for a good stream controller for sure. Also the Seller contacts you to explain how to use it and also to contact them if you have any questions. Overall great experience. Hope that OBS can fix this issue with the connection.

Great for its price and can do anything you need!

Works great and is compatible with voicemod, obs, and plenty of other apps. Def worth the price, very easy to use however the voicemod button icons disappear when reloading the deck.

Cute and easy to set up.

I love this stream deck. It can do a lot if not all of the same things as the bigger more expensive brands. I haven't finish setting it all up but it's not hard at all.

Very comparable to stream deck for a fraction of the cost

Great value for the money. I personally use this as a button box for my racing sim, it works great and is easy to set up!

I would buy over and over again

Wow, it was a but tricky, it's amazing. You don't need anything expensive unless your that type that just want to buy something cause it's a big brand. Its really good

Great piece of hardware

The hardware is great. 15 total buttons and a strip of screen. The color is pretty good but the colors get blown at high brightness levels. The cable is plugged in directly to the back of a flat device but angled onto a plastic mount so you can route it to the side.

The software will ultimately be the limiting factor for the Soomfon stream controller. Out of the box it provides some functionalities like media control and basic OBS controls. There's nothing out of the box for the info screen. There's a big store of plugins for more functionality so you can find way more stuff there. You can also just make plugins yourself if you know C#.

V

Useful little gadget

I'm not a streamer, so this is really more for me to have some functions and info readily available. I'm still playing around with it, but so far I like using it for shortcuts and sensor information. The HWIngo plugin has so much information available to display.

The hardware itself is good quality plastic, while the individual displays are sharp enough to read text information. Buttons are physical, not touchscreen, and are easy to press.

I guess the main concern is downloading the software - it's a risk that you need to take since it's a direct download from the website they provide. It's cheaper than name brand alternatives and gives a good introduction to these streaming control decks.

Looking forward to better integrating this into my work flow.

Stream Controller - Good but not great!

So after having it for more than a month, I feel like it's better described as a shortcut/hotkey remote with customization options. Anyone spending long hours on a computer might find this device useful. However it could be a pain to learn to set up since as it's mostly used for gaming & streaming applications. The marketplace that's included doesn't really seem to have any shortcut options that most people might find useful. However you can set up your own shortcuts with the device, which requires a few extra steps, but seems more reliable than the ones you're offered in the store.

Included with the device is a program (that is provided through a link in the setup manual), that allows you to set it up how you want. The program includes the storefront that I previously mentioned, that is more of a library since everything there so far is free.

It's worth mentioning that most of the included plug-ins and shortcuts are faulty and don't work (such as OBS Studio & some youtube plug-ins & a few others that I can't remember right now). Fortunatly the device is able to create its own shortcuts with the pre-installed plug-ins on the device. The overall design is nice as well.

The buttons on the stream dock, are tiny individual picture frames that you can customize with icons from the shop or random images from your computer as king as they are the right size. You can even set a screen saver using the same principles, but I believe it only allows you to set 1 image across all 15 keys & requires a small resolution. So, any HD images will come out choppy & blury when applied as a wallpaper.

The stream deck doesn't provide any instructions outside of its initial setup & vaguely tells you how to setup a folder. I think this is a major pitfall, considering you will end up researching the competition to understand how to use this thing.

Unfortunately, there's just not a lot of information about this particular device outside of the support website & 2 or 3 youtube videos, which don't tell you anything useful about the device & are hard to find.

Once up & running it's fine, decently snappy. It will open programs as quickly as your computer will allow it. You can set up themes called scenes, & use them manage work spaces on the computer or open applications. If set up right, you can even use it as a mouse.

After about a month or longer with it I'm still not pro, & still feel like I'm not using it to its maximum potential.

The stream deck has 15 buttons and a window/screen that is not touch interactive. There are no other buttons or switches across the whole device with only 1 input for the included USB C cable.

You can program different applications & functions to the 15 buttons, as well as custom images/icons, which will appear inside of the physical button on the device. You can set 1 button to open up an entire work space, or just a single application.

** I've had the stream deck so far for almost 2 months. With the price & vagueness of the device I wanted to make sure I understood what I was reviewing, & was able to deliver truthful insights.

In conclusion the device will do mostly what you expect. I think it's slightly overpriced for the market, considering top of the line name brand competitors are only $20-$50 more. I think $70 is fair, so not really overpriced. After some time it will develop a delay with the more scenes you add. So far it hasn't crashed at all while launching scenes. I have about 8 working scenes & still not sure what the limit is. Pixel quality could be better. Without the working plug-ins, it can be pretty tedious & repetitive to set up. & Use especially when using the icons.

I noticed it recently had an update, so I'll explore that & hopefully be back to update my review again. (:

Surprisingly Good Budget Control Deck

I was pretty impressed with this control deck considering it’s a more of a budget friendly option. Right out of the box, it felt like decent quality—not super high-end but definitely not cheap either. Setting it up was easy, and customizing a couple of screens was pretty straightforward. The app is intuitive, and there are a fair number of plugins to work with, though the little side display could definitely use more options.

For what I use it for—annoying my friends with Voicemod, playing games, and keeping an eye on CPU/GPU temps—it works great. The LCD screens are sharp and clear, and the buttons feel fine. Nothing amazing, but they don’t feel cheap either.

If you’re looking for a budget alternative to a Stream Deck for personal use, this is a solid pick for the price

Powerful streamdeck

I was surprised by this product. I did not expect this to be a very straightforward and fun to use product. 15 buttons plus 3 info squares makes this not only affordable but also powerful. The streamdeck is nicely built with the included stand which makes it easier to display and operate. The app store also supports myriad of plugins that adds functionality in the product.

Awesome!

I love this thing! I currently have it set up with some basic things like messenger apps, websites, and programs I use often. It really comes in handy when I'm using my laptop to drive my laser cutter and need to switch programs quickly. I will eventually be using for actual streaming, but haven't been streaming since I got it as I've been busy.

One note I do have for Macbook users and anyone else who doesn't have USB-A ports on your computer! You will need a USB-C to USB-C cable for this to work that is rated for data. Or, at least, a USB-A to USB-C coupler that is rated for data. Other cables will not work. It has to be a data cable to function or the computer won't see it.

Happy streaming!

Easy to setup and it become very useful for me

I wanted something to replace a volume knob and a small lcd screen that i like to use on my keyboards but i like switching keyboards alot which doeisnt have any of that and when i saw this stream controller at a cheaper price than other stuff on the market i wanted to give it a go.

It was easy to setup i just plug it in and it powered up than i downloaded the software which was already in english for me and the software was easy to setup and customized the way i want it which is perfect.

How i have it setup that i use mainly is for sound controls and 3 icons for my storage drives and a icon for my email and the 2 cat icons that i made is for 2 web sites and everything works great and the way i want it.

The device feels well built also and each lcd screen button has a nice soft tactile feel to it and they colorful and can go bright which you can adjust the brightness to.

Will be fun playing with it and making more screen pages for even games and other useful uses over time i love it👍

Fun and Useful

I tested this on a couple of Windows 11 machines where it seems pretty snappy and responsive. Setup was very intuitive, and configuing the device to my taste was easy, although I spent a lot of time tweaking and fiddling to get things just so. The three vertical spots on the far right are not buttons, just info screens, but it's a feature I don't think the El Gato has. I use it for my processor temperature, a clock, and my network throughput. Mac users won't be able to get system info like processor temp on those screens, but there's still date, time, the weather, etc. The 15 actual buttons can also be just info screens that do nothing when pressed if you like.

The buttons' icons are customizable and can be animated if appropriate. There are also many sets you can download directly from the app. For my part, I used some photos of my dog that I made into tiny icons for a couple of actions.

The library of actions provided, combined with the larger library of plugins available online, is substantial. There are 15 buttons, but if you dedicate two of them to switching forward and backward, you can have multiple screens of buttons to use. And you can also configure the device to load diffrent sets of actions depending on the active application. So, for instance, you can set it to automatically change the screen to Photoshop actions when you run Photoshop.

I'm not a streamer so I can't speak to those actions, but there are sets of useful actions for the popular Adobe apps, as well as Office and some others. My most used actions are the multimedia buttons that allow me to play, pause, skip tracks etc on whatever's playing, even if the media app is buried in the background of the computer screen. I have a computer dedicated as a media player with only a touch screen and no keyboard, and this device really helps out there. And I have a couple of actions that just type text to help me out with complicated passwords. With just the macros and actions provided with the unit, there is a myriad of possibilities.

As for build quality, the device is lightweight and plastic, but it does feel quite sturdy and well made. I have no complaints there. But I do have one complaint. I'm not sure if the Soomfon is to blame or if it's my computer, but the device does not wake from sleep with the computer. I either have to unplug/replug the device, or load the configuration software to get the thing to wake up. It's probably something in my computer's configuration but I'm not sure. And the other complaint is a couple of the downloadable actions I tried did not seem to work correctly. These downloadable actions are free and provided by third parties through the included app so if there's an issue, I think you're out of luck. But most of the ones I tried worked well.

For those wondering if it's worth getting instead of the El Gato, unfortunately I have never used the El Gato. But unless you have very specific needs for a particular action for a particular application, I can't imagine anything missing on this unit. I suppose if you're a professional streamer making money from streaming, you should get the named brand. But if you're a dabbler, a hobbyist, or don't need some obscure action, this one does the trick. It's a pretty fun gadget.

Every 1 min... wait... what?

This company makes a bold statement right on the back of the box. They claim that "every one minute one consumer buys a SOOMFON product"

Okaaaaayyyy... well hopefully that means they know how to make a quality product… Let's find out!

The software is rather easy to use and not a pain at all (thus far anyway)

I don't really know the best way to set it up it'll be the most beneficial or efficient for me but it does seem like it will not be difficult

I think I like my holder better though. Beetleguise watches with judgement in his eyes, doesn't he?

The software will let you configure different hot keys or launch an application or a webpage or any number of windows commands etc. etc. etc.… It's very straightforward
