I just bought a new Denon AVR -S970H to replace my decades old Harman Kardon AVR-25II. I found the old karaoke mixer Boston Audio PA-999S II together with its wireless microphone system not anymore compatible with the new AVR and its Dolby Atmos surround capability. I searched around and found the Sound Town was a mixer with built-in wireless microphone and two HDMI ports for in and out at a so much affordable price, and wanted to make a try with not so much confidence. After my complete setup via two HDMI cables from my Dell laptop to the mixer and from the mixer to the AVR, the Dolby Atmos surround from the speakers was so good and amazing that I could not tell the difference when connecting directly to the AVR or via the mixer to the AVR. Of course the high tone sounds from the mixer cannot be as good as directly from the AVR w/o the mixer. But you cannot ask for that for a mixer + built-in wireless phone + HDMI for a little more than a hundred dollars! I have not try to connect the HDMI output of the mixer to a 4K TV so I do not yet know how the mixer works with HD TV.

I have a TV with eARC HDMI, so plugged in SWM16 MAX to that port, configured PCM on TV and connected 2.1 speakers through optical to mixer. It works flawlessly both for passing sound from any device connected to TV through other HDMI ports like Chromecast/PS5 to speakers and as a karaoke mixer if microphones are on. Good device, definitely recommend 10/10.

There is a delay in speech when using the Mixer optical cable out to amplifier optical IN. No delay when using the Mixer RCA cable out to amplifier RCA IN. Depending on the amplifier, I used the TV optical cable out to the optical IN on the Mixer. Then use the mixer RCA cable out to the amplifier TV AUX IN. On the amplifier select the TV source. The TV and microphone was able to go through the amplifier at the same time. The following setup can overcome the low microphone volume problem. If possible increase the amplifier TV source input. If not then increase the amplifier volume to 70%, the microphone volume to 80% and the music knob of the Mixer to 30%. You will have to play around to get good balance between the music and microphone. There are other setup like using the TV RCA out to Mixer RCA IN instead of using the optical cable. Overall microphone sounds good and quality is good.

I bought the Sound Town (SWM16-2MEGA) mixer and it works great, but the setup is a bit of a puzzle. If you’re like me, your Sony receiver usually handles everything through HDMI. However, to get the microphone sound to mix in, you have to separate the audio.
Here is how I made it work:
1.Plug your video source (I use an Apple TV) directly into the TV, not the receiver.
2.Run an Auxiliary cable from the TV's audio out into the Input on the Sound Town mixer.
3.Run the Output from the mixer (using the Aux to RCA cables) into the "CD" ports on the back of the Sony receiver.
Once I switched the receiver over to the "CD" input, everything clicked. The sound is clear, no lag, and the microphones sound professional.
If you’re struggling with a modern HDMI receiver, try this routing it works perfectly!

This is really great and sound is good quality. The most important part is mine is still intact and working after 6 years of using. I bought this in 2020.

I was exactly looking for something fun. I want to sing karaoke, and I want it to be linked to my Bluetooth vinyl record player and my smart sound surround sound system. I want it to be affordable, compact, durable, and sturdy.

I was little bit hesitant to order this mixer system because of some bad reviews bad nothing to lost if you try it, you can return it if doesn’t sound good. But here I am giving a honest opinion I was surprised that this mixer was better than I expected you just need to know how to adjust correctly. Unnoticeable lags but not a problem we love this system and I’m planning to buy another one for gift. Value for money is good, easy to connect, not bulky, sounds great. Please refer to the picture for right tuning. Hopefully this can help you how to set up your karaoke mixer system for best sounds.

I love the size of this Karaoke "machine". It's very compact and with little help from YouTube and the instructions, it works well with my smart TV and just a soundbar, no receiver, or amplifier. It's great for parties, and just evening karaoke time.

The blue microphone would not bear with the receiver after twenty times of trying.

Like many I like to sing. I wondered how to set up my Karaoke system without being a nuisance to the family. I set everything up in one of my master closets. Great acoustics (clothing helps buffer the echo). The system was an easy setup and came with multiple attachments. Great instructions, I just wish alkaline batteries lasted longer. These mics require some juice. Otherwise, very happy with the purchase and probably will purchase another system for the families use in the den.

Order for my event and received within couple days. Failed on first step, the receiver not even power on! I tried my own cable as well but still not lucky, I can accept the refurbished even I paid for a new product, but please just make it works then better than nothing!

Karaoke unit works great for what I'm using it for. The power USB port did however corrode within 6 months of receiving. Reached out to company for a replacement or at least to fix it or a partial reimbursement and was told they could do nothing for me. Poor quality hardware was used in my opinion.

What a disappointment.
It arrived on time and was easy to connect the optical cables that come with it to the TV and my AV Receiver, but neither one of the microphones will pair to the Karaoke receiver.
Following the troubleshooting directions in the manual I powered down the mic and the receiver. Then held the mic power button down til I got the flashing "1d". At that point I quickly released the power button and quickly press it one time which put it into pairing mode, which was confirmed by the flashing signal icon in the top right corner of the mic's LED display. Then I turned on the karaoke receiver and waited for it to pair and nothing. After about 10 seconds the mic moved out of pairing mode as the icon stopped blinking.
It tried this several times and nothing. Tried it in an area that had no other electronic devices and nothing. Even when out and bought the best world champion AA alkaline batteries available just to check that box and nothing. Tried to contact the manufacturer, but their support line has better than bankers hours Mon-Fri from 10am to 5:30pm so I sent a detailed email help request.
We'll see what happens, but regardless, any simple fix if one even exists should have been in the manual.
