Originally I was just out for a rubber mallet.. building my tool collection now that I have a full shop area.. and I was looking for something that had a mallet on one side and metal on the other for demo/smashing tasks or driving, didn’t know if they existed or not. But I ran into this. Seemed like the perfect resolution. I could get a demo/driving hammer/hand sledge in my collection along with a mallet in one swoop. Cant beat it. Very quality feeling and all the spec ops stuff always looks cool as hell.
Will also be getting their 20oz nailing hammer with the cap too for more precise malletting abilities. Can’t believe I’ve never seen this “cap” ingenuity anywhere else.
INTANGIBLE CREATION
Hi it’s Kris from intangible creation! I’m going to upload a long video on YouTube later but I wanted to come back here and let you know how awesome this hammer is! It’s amazing the weight is perfectly balanced even tho it’s heavy it’s so fun to carry you don’t even care about the weight it strikes perfectly and quick due to a perfectly sized handle with a lot of attention to detail on the handle and head of the hammer your grip won’t slip and you will be able to alternate plenty of different grip positions to reduce fatigue amazing product could easily cost more be thankful it doesn’t. Last but not least it’s heavy but I did use it to make a nice zinc and copper bracelet both soft metals and I didn’t destroy the piece even the the hammer is way oversized but I’ll just be ordering the 2.5Lb aswell since this went perfectly

Great product for the demo work I was doing in the back yard. Love the dual ends and the shock absorbing handle. Chisel side truly helped to break up the concrete. Used it to break up the tile on the bbq. Weight and size was perfect for myself and my adult children to use.

I'm no blacksmith, so i can't speak to how well this hammer works on hot metal, but I do need to persuade things into or out of position on a regular basis, and for that this mini Mjölnir does the job.

As a vet myself, I will always support other vets especially when they make quality products such as here. I have been using a 3 lbs hammer for quite a while and needed one with more weight. After my 3 lbs failed, I got this Spec Ops hammer. This thing is a beast! I can hammer out a billet in half the time and this hammer has taken everything I have thrown at it!

Hammer arrived well packaged but had some rust on the face. No worries since I was going to dress the hammer. Face itself was half dressed so the process did not take long. Peen side was in great shape and didn't need any dressing.
Now for the downside, the handle. It is too short for a proper blacksmithing hammer and greatly limits you when working at the anvil (face & peen sides). It is disappointing cause the head is perfect for that use just with some minor dressing. Now I got to remove the handle, buy and install a better one.
It would be good if the company offers the same 2.5lb hammer with a longer handle or replacements. The cap is a great detail when working with wood.
Overall it is an ok buy cause I can use it for other jobs but if you buy it for blacksmithing, you'll be disappointed.

This hammer is excellent. I am an electrician and often times I need to install EMT stakes to secure underground PVC conduit. This hammer is comfortable, well constructed and does the job. The price is reasonable and giving that this company gives back to our veterans is a plus to me. Overall, thus far, I am satisfied with this product and would recommend it to others in need of a good 2.5 lb. hammer.

This is a good little one handed sledge. I constantly leave my baby sledge at home and forget it when needed so got this for the truck toolkit. It has a more comfortable grip than my old wooden handle one. I don't get the same kind of ringing pain in my elbow driving rebar and stakes when building garden beds or tents.
Its always nice to get products from a company that supports veterans too. It is designed in the USA too which is a long way of saying still made overseas, but at least some money was spent here.
The little padded head also does a good job of mimicking a deadbolt hammer. Have sued it to persuade several boards that needed just a little nudge in to fit. Often jack studs for retrofitting windows into sheds and the like.
Great tool overall no complaints. Its made several projects and side jobs much easier.

Beyond the branding and charity, which both are very cool, the 2.5 Blacksmith hammer fits the niche of a lighter tool with a narrowed focus on metal shaping. Combined with the others, this gives you specialty tools for metalwork and other worthy projects and tasks. All the hammers feel great in your hand and have a loop for a safety lanyard. Even if you don't do ladder or pole work with this type of hammer, which would make a lanyard essential, a loop for your wrist can be added to prevent ground-level work, losing it unintentionally, and busting your toes or project.
These come with a nonmarring cover, which may be easily lost, but it seems to stay on even when I throw it in a tool bag or on the floor of my SUV. I thought that after I took the glamour shots of these hammers, it would be the last time they looked so good -- they would look like real tools with marks soon enough. I certainly recommend these as comparable to or better than other brand-name engineering, metalwork, or drilling hammers.

I’ve been doing some framing and building in my basement. I’m converting it to an apartment. I’m not really the best and most precise carpenter and sometimes things need a little persuasion to fit into place. That’s where this small sledgehammer comes in. Often, I have to tap some 2 x 4s into place to make them fit, and having the soft tip has been really helpful. There are other times when I’m raising a wall that I built on the floor that needs to be tapped into place to assure it’s 90° to the floor. This hammer is heavy enough to move these kinds of things around but light enough that I can hold and swing around. The grip certainly helps keep a hold of it though. With its LIFETIME Warranty and 3% going to first responders and the military, this is really a nice tool to have around.

This thing is built like a tank, which fits the Spec Ops brand. It's got a nice grippy handle and the finish is excellent. I'd certainly consider getting more tools from this brand.

This hammer feels nice and balanced in the hand. I like the combination of a flat head and a tapered head vs the traditional double flat head version I had previously. I also like the construction of the rubber tip as it is unlikely to slip off while in use. The handle feels sturdy as does the entire hammer; it appears to be well constructed. I am not a Smithee, but use heavy hammer in landscaping the yard and when I need to do some demolition. This will be my go to hammer now. Also, though not of any utility, it just looks nice. Tools seem to be one of the things most affected by inflation and this one comes in at ~$40. If it holds up, I will be satisfied with the purchase.
*PRECISE RATING: 4
RECOMMENDATION: If you need a 4# hammer, I can recommend this one.
(As always, I will report back if there are any durability or performance issues with additional use.)
PHOTO INFO (photos are loaded in order, but may be rearranged when finally posted):

I hope you found something informative and useful in this review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Good luck with your decision.
*My rating scale:
5 = definitely buy again, happy to have it (exceptional in several characteristics,)
4 = probably buy again (decent job of doing what I need, excels in one or two characteristics)
3 = perhaps buy again after researching options (functions OK, looks OK, decent quality, average life expectancy but no outstanding characteristics) (in other words, average)
2 = would not buy again (low end/below average merchandise and/or service, but not totally worthless)
1 = sorry I bought it the first time (poor performance in several characteristics, no redeeming characteristics)

This hammer is way nicer than any metal beater really needs to be, but heck, I admit, it does give me some irrational pleasure to use it versus my other hammers. It’s just really well made, from the comfortable handle to the head to the rubber cover that is more useful than I expected. It’s well balanced and just feels nice in the hand, and dang, it really does look sharp. I feel a little ridiculous with the spec ops theme on a freaking hammer, I mean, it’s not like there’s a Tier One Seal Team Six blacksmithing unit. But yeah, still, it’s a nice hammer. Really nice.

Pretty hefty hammer. It's a perfect size for work and like how it comes with the cover for protection so you don't scratch up whatever you might have to hit. It's nice looking and fits perfectly in the hand. I like the double ended head which provides different types of contact if needed. It's not too heavy. A little bit more weight might help, but it's great as is too. I see lots of uses and possibilities for this tool.

This mini drilling sledge comes equipped with a removable soft face. Nice touch making it more versatile. The short handle allows for easy close work and control that a normal 3 lb hand sledge is awkward at. Composite handle is epoxied in place so it won’t come loose like wood one do. Great addition to your hammer collection.

I've been using my grandfather's 2 pound hand held sledge for a long time, and I will continue to use it, but it's more of a family heirloom now than a useful tool, and technology has improved greatly since the 1950's. This hand held sledge embodies the newest tech for a low tech tool like a sledge hammer. Primarily, the handle and grip are a huge improvement over the wooden ash handle of the past. This one has a grippy rubber handle which means I can hold onto it easier without having to grip really hard. As I age, I appreciate anything that helps me conserve energy! In the same vein, the rubber also absorbs some vibration, again, making it less fatiguing to use. There is also some hard plastic protection near the head to keep the handle from getting damaged when you inevitably miss the mark with a blow. I'm not sure about the soft cap, I can't think of a good use for it now, other than possibly banging out some sheetmetal without leaving sharp dents. I guess it would also absorb some vibration if you're hitting something like a tent stake maybe? Most likely, knowing me, I will remove it and eventually it will become lost.
The quality of this hammer is really good, but there are definitely less expensive alternatives. From what I've seen, they offer similar features in well known brands, but lack the overstrike protection. Ultimately it's an individual choice as to whether you want to buy this one over a cheaper version, but this company does donate 3% of the price to veterans causes, and I think it's worth the price if you also factor in the fact that this thing should easily last decades. After all, my family has gotten 70+ years out of my grandfather's sledgehammer. I expect this one will be passed down to my son just the same.

It has a short stubby head, and all of the he weight is concentrated there. Really useful for tight, confined spaces, like when you're working under the car and need to chisel a at at something.
I thought the top recess area might be magnetic, but no. The bumpers on the side are meant to be strike protectors. The rubber cover is easy to pull on/off and is a useful addition.
A good toolkit complement to a standard hammer!
Tim
Grip is comfortable, but girth is a little small for my larger hand. All day use may result in fatigue for those with larger hands but works great for my use. The design and aesthetics of the tool screams quality, and I've already started looking for other offerings from this brand to add to my toolkit.

For years I’ve been using an old 3lb sledgehammer with a wooden handle that I’ve replace on more than one occasion. This Spec Ops 4lb hammer is a beast. I had no idea how much an additional pound would make when lifting and swinging. With the handle, the hammer weighs 4lbs 12 oz. With my old one, I would grasp it by the end of the handle to swing, but with this 4-pounder I have to choke up on the handle. I will say though, when you bring a 4-pound head down on something, it has a solid impact. I drove a 2-foot piece of rebar into dry hard caliche ground with ease. The impact resistance is a nice feature and will be especially evident when doing a lot of repetitive hammering. It also has a great bonus accessory with the rubber cover for those times something just needs a little coaxing into place and you don’t want to ding it up.

The hammer looks like something pulled from the Marvel universe, but rest assured it is functional. The fiberglass handle includes a rubber outer coating that provides a comfortable, secure grip. The handle length is well balanced for maintaining control while providing sufficient length for greater striking speed.
I have never forged anything as a blacksmith, but still find plenty of use for sledge hammers. Sometimes demolition, but even more often for strongly encouraging something to move into place. The tapered backside is great for taking apart concrete, but the addition of a tight fitting rubber cap makes nudging without damage possible as well. I also appreciate that some of the profit goes to veterans and first responders. Of course the product needs to be well designed and worth the cost, this sledge meets that criteria.

This Spec Ops hammer is of a nice weight and easy to swing, just the thing when a the claw hammer isn't enough and there's no room for a long-handled sledge. Its head has one wedge-shaped peen and one wide, flat surface, just as its name implies. A tough and tight-fitting removable rubber cover is provided for the flat surface for use where there are worries about denting the surface, making it even more useful.
A great deal of engineering must have gone into the comfortable (and rather ornate) handle of this basic and essential tool, and the firm grip and compact design will be ideal for everything from driving stakes to aligning lumber to driving out rusty pins and bolts. It looks like it'll give many years of service.

This is a very nice hammer, better in many ways than the industry standard Estwing sledge hammers that have been around for generations. I really like the removal rubber cap which makes this a much more versatile tool and a potential rubber mallet replacement. The grip is very comfortable and the over strike protection is well placed. This would be a great hammer for driving in stakes, light demolition and motivating stuck parts. I would highly recommend this hammer if you’re in the market for a good all around sledge.

This 4 pound hammer is very will built! I like the 12 inch handle and the fact that the hammer head is epoxied to the handle to prevent it coming loose. See my photos. The handle is cushioned and it has a lanyard hole that can come in handy during hard use to prevent dropping the hammer.
Some may consider the hole in the end of the handle to be for hanging the hammer in storage. From experience, I can tell you that it is more practical to tie a loop of leather through that hole and use it as a lanyard. Then if you still want to hang it in storage, you can use it for hanging as well.
The hammer head cover will come in handy when you want to avoid marring a surface. Whether doing blacksmith work, demolition or driving rerod, this hammer is up to the task. 5 stars!

As you can see from the photo of my tool wall, I use a lot of different hammers and mallets, and now this is in the pole position. That’s because it’s an outstanding 2.5 lb dead blow “lump” hammer that I can use for so many different purposes, including on my anvil and especially for woodworking. For woodworking, with the cap cushion on the head, this is a very well balanced short hammer I can grab near the head and is perfect to replace my larger, bulkier joiner’s mallet for banging panels and joinery together without fear of bruising the wood. This hammer is worth every cent any as a veteran it makes me feel good to support makers who support our causes.

This hammer is well-built and has an ergonomic, comfortable handle. It also comes with a rubber head cap, so it can be used as a rubber mallet. The handle is short, so it is nice for getting into hard-to-reach places, yet it has a bit of weight to it and will still generate more force than a standard hammer.
GC
This is a decent hammer but the handle feels a bit short. This leaves the whole thing just a bit out of balance. Might not really matter unless you’re using it all day. Overall decent quality. If the price feels right you could give this one a shot.
Natucha
It's funny because it has the "tactical special ops" look, but it's just a hammer. It even comes with a cover so you can take care of your hammer and not scratch it, haha!
It has a good grip. Probably more than half of the price is the cost of shipping that thing around.
