It does charge at 48 amps, but you have to change setting to get it.
So far so good for me. This charger has the nema 14-50 plug so it can plug in to a matching nema outlet, no hardwiring needed. That makes it a great portable option, as does the carrying bag, which it fits in nicely.
The default setting is 40 amp charging which is around 9kw per hour. It will charge at 50 amps, my car seated it to 48. That equals around 11 kw per hour. The faster charging is nice, but the manual says you should only use it for 2 hours at a time. In order to change the settings, long press the power button. It’ll then flash two options amperage and charge time. If it’s not defaulted to amperage, single press the power button to toggle to your option. Then long press until the various amperage’s display. 50 amps is the highest setting, and I think you can drop down to around 16 amps. The included plug won’t fit a 110 socket, so I’m not sure why you’d want to deregulate to 16 amps, but it’s an option. Single presses will toggle through the options. Then long press on the amperage of your choice. If you choose 50 amps, you should ensure that your circuit is properly wired. I use 6/3 wire and a 60 amp breaker. This safely gives me 48 amps. The manual says you can use 8/3. A typical Nema 14-50 plug will need a red hot, a black hot, a white neutral, and a green ground.
It came with the NACS adaptor to easily adapt it to my Tesla. This was a nice addition.
This is a really good charger, especially for the money. It charges faster than the Tesla mobile charger. Which is rated at 32 amps, or around 6 kw per hour.
