Sunoony CD player exceeded my expectations!

I needed a new portable CD player. After reading many reviews of different players I decided to try this Sunoony. I'm glad I did! The sound through my bluetooth headphones is awesome. The ear buds that came with it sound pretty good as well but I can't stand earbuds for more than a few minutes. The built in speakers are ok, but probably better for listening to audio books rather than music. It also has line out also for direct connections.

The controls are basic and easy to figure out. Reviews on some other models had people complaining about having to pull out the manual every time they used their players. Not a problem with this one.

It has FM but it's only transmit to enable you you cast to your car stereo or other FM radios. You cannot receive FM broadcasts. This model allows you to tune to any spot in the FM dial compared to some that only come with a few presets. I have not used this feature yet but will soon. It also has USB port so you can play files on a memory stick but I haven't tried that yet either.

It's a little thicker than my old players were thanks to the speakers, but it still fits in my old case that also holds 22 CDs.

The door for the disc is actually on the back! It makes sense because of the speakers and also you don't have wires running through the hinge to buttons on the door like top loaders.

Some people were complaining about the run time and were running the batteries all the way down. Don't do it people! Lithium Ion batteries don't like to go below 20%. If you keep doing that you are going to degrade them and run time is going to drop.

No skips

It works well in car and home environments since I have been using it, ~2 months. Display may need to be upgraded to show track # and track time at the same time. It seems the battery last long time and does not need to be recharged often for normal operation.

Loudest CD player ever!

It easy to use.

Replaces the CD player that they don’t provide in vehicles these days.

The volume is LOUDest I’ve ever heard in a CD player!

unreliable packaging

VERY poor first impression. I pulled it out and the charging cord was tangled, the rubber band had been taken off, and the shipping protector wasn't even in the base. It was almost as if somebody tried to put it together before shipping. But there are three stars rather than one because the CD portion actually worked (even used a brand new CD to test). Sound quality was better than expected on the speaker, earbuds were okay at best. Product overall was a little disappointing.

Full-Featured Multi-capable Player that is PURE JOY to USE!

First, I would like to say, “Why in today’s streaming world would I want to buy this Sunoony CD-35?” I have collected music CDs for over 40 years. Through the years, Thumb Drives, aka, Flash Drives have gain popularity. From my perspective, these are great for archiving my CDs or to play uninterrupted for the entire day as even a small capacity Flash Drive, say, 4?GB (almost impossible to buy because they aren’t made), with 17% used, stores over 88 pieces of music and five albums! Imagine how may musical piece I could store if I used the full 4GB capacity. If my math is correct, I could potentially have over 500 pieces of music stored on a 4GB Flash Drive and yes, it PLAYs MP3s! I don’t like streaming as I need a connection to the Internet. What choice do I have left? I love audio cassettes as I can have each cassette recorded with 90 minutes of music AND I can select the music/performer I’d like to listen OR I can just use my CDs BUT that requires that I use a portable player like the Sunoony CD-35; As I don’t just listen to my music in my house, portability allows me the freedom to play my music anywhere. But to do that, I need a player with features that I need.

My minimum portable player requirements are: built-in speakers (best if they are stereo), Bluetooth enabled, and the ability to play my recorded Flash Drives (or microSD and SD memory cards with an adapter). I believe I’ve found these features in the Sunoony CD-35. The CD-35 is feature RICH!

Since the CD-35 is predominately a CD player, I will address this feature first. You turn on the player using the master power button located on its left side. Turn the player upside down, unlatch the Sunoony CD-35 lid, using the “Open” latch located on the front side. The lid opens from the bottom of the player. Load a CD on the spindle, close the lid and control the player from the top control panel and display. The LCD shows the battery level and the default “CD” function. After a few moments, the player will display the total number of tracks and then commence playing track number one. The player will normally display the time elapsed for the track that is playing, but approximately every 13 seconds into playing, the track number is displayed momentarily so you know exactly which track is being played. Surrounding the LCD are four buttons: off, play/pause and track selection (forward and backward). The track selection buttons have two functions: a short-press selects the next or previous track. A long-press of these button performs “fast forward” or “rewnd”. These uses the ubiquitous icons that practically all digital audio devices use. Volume is control with two push buttons for “VOL+” and “VOL-”, these are “digital buttons, unlike analog volume controls that you rotate, these will never develop static if the control is dirty.

Flash Drives (thumb drives) can be played directly when attached to the CD-35's external USB port. microSD and SD memory cards with MP3 files may also be used with an appropriate adapter.

CD and Flash Drive playback can be controlled with the “REP./PROG.” button. Successive clicks cycles among: Single (blinking circular icon), All (circular icon is steadily displayed), Random (random selection of bands) and the Start. Start is indicated as INTRO on the LCD. It plays the first ten seconds of each music track. To cancel these modes, press the “REP./PROG.” button until the display no long displays these modes (top of the LCD).

Selecting a particular music track:

With the Sunoony CD-35 in the stop mode (STOP/SLEEP) button, press the “REP./PROG.” button, the CD-35 may then be programmed to play tracks starting with “P01" - when this is displayed, use the “|<<“ and/or “>>|” buttons to select the tracks. Press “REP./PROG.” repeatedly, the LCD displays successively “Pxx” at which point you then select the track to be programmed. I played a Sinatra CD that has 22 tracks and by using the “REP./PROG.” button, I selected four tracks: P01, “Luck be a Lady”; P02 “Fly Me to the Moon; P03 (this CD has 22 tracks) “My Way”; and P04, "That's Life." When these tracks are programmed, press the “Play” button and your programmed tracks will play in the order of the selected tracks. The top-left corner of the LCD shows “P” to indicate that it is playing in program mode. To cancel this mode, short-press the “STOP/SLEEP” button. The program function is applicable to playing CD and Flash Drives.

Since the Sunoony CD-35 is portable and is meant to be used outdoors, while jogging, doing exercises and other activities, I wanted to test its ability to play CDs without skipping. I shook the heck out of it and I never experienced any skipping; the music played without hesitation!

Bluetooth Transmitter

Pairing to a Bluetooth earbud or headphone couldn’t be simpler; with the external Bluetooth device turned on in its pairing mode, press the “BT TRANSMITTER” button; the Bluetooth icon on the display blinks. Once the pairing is completed, the Bluetooth icon is soldidly displayed in the upper-right corner of the LCD. COULDN'T BE SIMPLER!

FM Transmitter

To transmit to a external FM radio, like in a car (many new cars don’t have a CD player), press the “FM TRANSMITTER” button. The default frequency is displayed on the bottom of the LCD. Turn the external radio to a blank spot on the FM band, note the frequency. From the Sunoony CD-35, use the “|<<“ and “>>|” buttons to set the Sunoony CD-35 to the same frequency that the radio is tuned to. The CD-35 will then play through the FM radio. If the Sunoony CD-35 is to be used on a car radio, store the blank station frequency to one of the radio’s stored “station” buttons so you won’t need to tune to a “blank” or empty frequency each time you need to connect to the CD-35 player. To cancel the radio connection, press the “FM TRANSMITTER” button.

The Sunoony CD-35 plays beautifully in my Toyota Camry on its FM TRANSMITTER!

The “FUN.” button cycles through all the various modes, e.g., CD, USB and bLUE. The last “bLUE” is the setting that permits an external Bluetooth capable device, like a smartphone to play through the CD-35 when it’s in its “receiving mode.” In this mode, ensure that the external device is in pairing mode; when paired, the external devices should display “CD-35".

Sleep mode: a long press on the “Stop/SLEEP” button enters the sleep mode and “SLEEP” appears at the lower-right corner of the LCD. Press the “|<<“ and “>>|” to set the number of minutes for the SLEEP function - the choice is from 10 to 90 minutes. To cancel SLEEP mode, press the “Stop/SLEEP” button followed by a short press of the “|<<“ button until “OFF” is displayed on the LCD.

Conclusion: battery life, I played four full-featured music CDs and the battery held up. As running down and draining the built-in lithium battery is not advised, I connected the CD-35 to a USB-C charger. The speakers belt out a lot of volume, so unless you want to play CDs in a concert hall, I don't think there is a need to Bluetooth to an external speaker! It’s remarkable how good the two tiny stereo speakers are!

Suggestions: I love this CD-35 player but for me, I would like two controls to be colored in: the power button and the CD chamber latch release button. Please refer to the photos. Since BOTH buttons are located on the side of the Sunoony CD-25, having them colored in quickly indicates their function and can easily be seen in low ambient light.

The Sunoony CD-35 is so full-featured that there isn’t anything that I can negatively comment EXCEPT it would be nice for the power and CD lid latch release to be colored in. AND the soft cloth carrying case should be made a bit wider so that it facilitate inserting the CD-35. I consider these to be minor details and I will still give the Sunoony CD-35 full five-stars AND this CD player is PURE JOY to USE!!!!!

Great portable CD player

This is an amazing personal CD player and I am very pleased overall with it and the price. There are a couple of very small issues: The battery lasts awhile but it does take a little while to fully charge. The only other notable thing is that the ear buds do not have rubber on the earpieces. I recommend this CD player for anyone in the market for one .

It is fast and easy to carry can move a lot without turning off is has a good amount of blue tooth options it can pause and its like a speaker once you have no head phones on and even if you don’t have a cd collection you can connect to your phone and activate it though the bluetooth button it can be speaker very nice size very compatibility best price for all that comes with headphones and a bag to hold it

Excellent portable CD player

I am extremely happy with this portable CD player. It has excellent sound quality that makes listening to my CD collection a pleasant experience.

I love that it is portable and has FM and BT transmission.

The controls are simple and easy to use. Because it is wireless I can take it anywhere. It also has a great look to it.

I highly recommend this player for its reliability, portability and many great features.

Great deal,great price

This was an absolute win for me. I had some cd’s that this DJ burned for me 10 years ago and wondered how I would play them. The only thing that I wish is that I purchased the combo set with the home along with the portable one. The idea of Bluetooth is a game changer

Great player, great value

Very nice! Get your old stack of CDs out and enjoy them again! This simple CD player is very easy to use -- minimalist, compact, and very well priced.

- Sleek black case looks good. Button feel is nice, layout and features are easy to understand, and overall, the unit gives a high quality impression.

Amazing CD Player!!

How cool is this?! I can play CDs, MP3 files from CD or USB drives, from my cell phone via Bluetooth, play to my car stereo via Bluetooth or via an FM frequency of my choosing or AUX cable. Also comes with earbuds or you can connect to Bluetooth earphones. This thing is awsome! I highly recommend it! 10 outta 10. Go on and get yourself one. You won't be sorry.

Dust off your CD collection with this amazing CD player!

Did I ever think I’d dig my old CD collection out of mothballs? No I did not! But with this cool player its actually easy and nice to re-visit my old “friends” hibernating in their CD cases.

This seems a very solidly built, quality unit. And unlike CD walkarounds of yesteryear, this one needs no batteries as the embedded USB rechargeable power lasts quite a long time, while delivering very good sound quality from the built in speakers, or via Bluetooth to separate speaker or an FM radio.

The detailed instructions made it easy to set this unit up and pair to speaker, etc. Having to load the CD from the bottom of the machine (you may notice the sticker to that effect on the front of the player on my attached photos) is a bit different than I would have expected, but just that. Neither bad nor bothersome just…”different”. The display is lit when needed, and is lit in a nice easy-on-the-eyes color while being quite legible.

All needed cables and a set of wired earbuds came with it, and a very nice, soft carry bag too.

I like this player very much with the modern upgrades of rechargeable, Bluetooth and FM it’s given my large and once-costly CD collection a new lease on life.

3rd unit works! Update to: CDs won’t spin or work. Screen says “no” on 1st and 2nd units.

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW: Customer service sent me a replacement and it works fine. I have it playing my CDs connected to by powered Klipsch speakers in my den. If you get a Wiim mini or pro, you can use Airplay 2 for multi-room listening. It’s portable too. Bring out the old CDs! Thanks for sending me a replacement that works. ORIGINAL:1st unit would not play any discs. First the screen said “no”, then “nod”. Tried everything: fully charged, tried different new cds, tried all modes and functions with no results. Sent email to support with no help so I returned it for a replacement. Guess what? The replacement has the same issues. I thought it was me, so I had my techie friends and sons try it with the same result. This one is going back also. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get one made on a good day.

Frustrated

Not sure what to think, got it so I could listen to books on cd and all I get when I put the CD in is (no) and then it shuts itself off, once I got (nod) but the instruction manual does not tell you what either of those things mean. So frustrated, because I wanted to listen to Fablehaven and not just in my car.

Speakers are good quality

Works very well. Has a ton of programming modes. Speakers are pretty decent and bass is clear on them. The cd door opening at the bottom is kind of annoying but not that big of deal.

Ease of use

Blue tooth function. Very clear sound with ear buds and without. Carry bag included with player. Ear buds have power button ? Unable to determine what the button on ear buds is for. Can use with FM transmitter, however my auto is 20 yrs old so I am not able to use this feature. Easy to use with quick start instructions. Will take up minimal space on my desk.

21st Century CD player

This CD player is fantastic. I am really enjoying all my cd’s again! It’s upgraded for the 21st century now. The ease of connectivity to my car, home stereo, and not to mention ALL of my Bluetooth speakers, ear buds, and my bigger guitar amps etc.

The wrist strap/lanyard is nice to use it while hanging because the player is oriented to the ground and all controls are easy to see and use. And the BIG screen is so nice when you want to see where you’re at on your disc. From the built-in speakers to the sleep-timer to the RECHARGEABLE battery this thing is where it’s at! And used cd’s are so cheap now. I’m so glad to see the cd player coming back with its new facelift. And it came with all the accessories you need.

Just plain impressive

This player is compact, portable, and versatile.

The photo shows it in Bluetooth transmission to my tube amp to my home stereo. I took it to my car and in FM transmitter mode it plays both CDs and files from a memory stick through my car stereo.

It plays regular CDs and CDs with MP3 files; this also applies to a USB memory stick.

The output is Bluetooth, FM, headphones (included), auxiliary output, and even a pair of built in speakers.

After charging the player I let it play for hours and it still did not need to recharge. I estimate it would likely play 4-5 hours but I didn't test it that far.

There is no equaliser function but that didn't impact listening for the various genres I played through it.

This little unit would make an excellent gift for anyone who loves music or listens to audiobooks or other spoken word sources.

I own alot of audio equipment and this player really impressed me.

Damages CDs - broke immediately and ruined the disc

This broke the second time using it and the playback head is literally touching the CD. It has damaged CD’s now by scraping off the outer edge.

Do not buy at all.

Best Choice for Portable CD Player!

I returned another item like this due to Bluetooth problems. This CD-35 is fantastic!!!

1. It has speakers - not for serious listening but perfect for my purpose of checking CDs before I load into my iTunes.

2. Very easy to operate! Buttons are clear and intuitive.

3. Lit screen and large enough wording means I can actually read what it says. SO important!

4. Fits in this separately purchased great round case with earbuds and wires for travel.

Highly recommend for inexpensive and convenient portable CD player.

Excellent audio quality

This is a great portable CD player, with excellent audio quality! It is very easy to use and set up - simply turn it on, put in the CD, and press play. The audio is great, and the speakers are nice and clear with no static. The battery life is wonderful, and easy to charge when needed. My kids and I love using this when we want to listen to our collection of CD's. It's perfect to take along on long car rides. Great piece, you'll be happy you purchased it!

Amazing Portable CD Speakers!

Such a unique product! This is a portable CD player SPEAKER! I wasn't anticipating the speaker function for CDs and it's great! It's nice to have the extra outlets (headphones and USB) but I prefer to use it as a mini boombox to listen to old CDs while doing chores or while driving in my fancy truck (that doesn't have a CD player). Amazing!

Great product and customer service

Excellent customer service! Initially the player had a hardware fault. I contacted customer service using the email address on an enclosed card. A few emails later and they shipped a new one to me that works just fine.

The player itself is better than advertised. The sound quality and battery life are great. The controls are intuitive. I will definitely do business again with this company.

FM Transmitter works great!

I bought this CD player to have the option to play CD's in my new Volvo via FM as this car really is non-compatible with most aftermarket infotainment products. The FM transmitter of the CD is variable and I found setting it a low freq like 89.9 works perfectly. The player seems to be well made and controls easy to operate in a car. I liked the product so much I bought a second for my wife's car. Her's came in damaged. The exchange which began at Whole Foods was a breeze and a new unit that worked perfectly arrived a few days later. I wish all exchanges where that easy.

Wonderful CD Player with Great Connectivity Options

This is a wonderful CD player that functions beautifully. The curious design requires that you load the CD in the bottom of the unit. Although, initially seemingly counterintuitive, I got used to this feature very quickly and appreciate that this design allows more room for the built-in speakers on the top of the unit which are more than adequate and sound quite nice. For better sound one can connect the sound output to earbuds or via an aux cable or by Bluetooth or even FM transmission. The connectivity options are truly impressive and work perfectly. The player is exceptional and the antiskip playback is solid and consistent. The battery life is superb and all connection and power cords are included as is a lovely black carrying pouch. I’m very pleased with everything about this player and highly recommend it as a great value.

Portable CD player is convenient, good sound for the size, & my dad LOVES it

I got this portable CD player as a gift for my father, who is in his 70s. He doesn’t like new technology too much, and he has a large collection of CDs that he enjoys listening to.

My father and mother LOVE this portable CD player! It’s a lot like the portable CD players that used to require headphones, but this one has its own speaker, so headphones are NOT required (though they are an option, since it has an aux port). So, it lets my dad easily play his CDs anywhere he wants. He can carry it all over the house, take it out to the patio, or even in the car (a lot of cars don’t have built in CD players anymore!).

SOUND QUALITY: The sound quality on this little speaker is pretty good considering how small the speaker is. I’d say it’s a little more clear than a standard radio station. Feel free to watch my video with the sound on to hear it, but PLEASE remember that the sound on the video has been filtered through my phone’s mic AND through your own device’s mic, so the actual sound quality of the CD player is better than what you’ll hear.

The player comes with nice accessories, including a clearly labeled storage bag where you can keep the instructions, charging cable, and headphones that come with it. Overall, I’d recommend this portable CD player, especially as a gift to anyone who still owns and enjoys a large number of CDs!

Awesome

I’ve been looking for a portable CD Player. This one is perfect for me. It has its own built-in speaker, but it also connects to my bluetooth speaker. I’m so excited to use this everyday. It has an FM transmit buttons. It has an aux cord, ear phones and storage bag as well. I just place the lanyard on my wrist when I walk around and the music still sounds perfect. I’m very pleased with this player and it’s worth every penny.

Impressive feature set

It is a full package: Player which reads from CDs and USB sticks, can transmit in BT or FM, has built in stereo speakers, comes with AUX cable, earbuds, lanyard and pouch, all for $10!

It played all the CDs I tried, no problem, and I also tried a couple of songs I copied to a USB stick (it only worked with FAT32, though). The user interface is a bit clunky because of the limited display real state but enough for the purpose.

The quality of the built in speakers is just fine, it is not a boombox. My main use will be playing CDs which came with a collection of old Disney stories, like Cinderella, Dumbo, Snow White for my kids. For that purpose the speakers are good enough.

In summary, I am very satisfied with the CD-35 player.
