Great camera, easy to install and set up!

We bought this system to monitor our backyard without having to replace our motion sensing floodlights that are hardwired. I really have like having the extra light that's on this device too: it's very bright and lights the path when walking past at night.

Tapo does offer a paid subscription but we opted to go with the local storage option with a separately purchased micro sd card. It's very specific on what kind you need for performance so beware when purchasing that.

This models highest resolution is 2k. That being said, it's still good quality and I can zoom in on things and know what they are since it is my backyard after all. Pretty good quality but it's not 4k.

I love that it has native detection. It tells me if a person, animal or car is detected right in the phone notification without opening the app. It's a great tool and as a former Wyze user, I think this takes the cake!

Avoid this junk camera.

I own another Tapo camera, the combination rotating and stationary cameras. It is about 35 feet away from the router, and it works great. I wanted one for the backyard, so I bought this piece of junk. It is actually about 3 feet from the router, and it will never connect. I can see previews of the screen captures, but I cannot watch them. I have to watch the infinity wheel of death for about a minute, and then I get “ Network is unstable. Please try again later”. I have not yet got to watch a single video that it has recorded. I’m sending this piece of junk back.

Easy install but you do need to format a memory card.

It stopped a questionable event at 2am.

A car was crusing neighborhood at around 5 mph.

Camera flood light came on and stopped the car in its tracks.

Car imeadietly stopped turn and ran.

It sometimes skips recordings overnight.

I have been using it for about a month now, and I have noticed a few things.

1. The solar power doesn’t charge enough; the power indicator always shows under 3%.

2. It sometimes skips recordings overnight.

Customer service is horrible!

The camera is great and the video quality is really good. But here’s the problem. I wanted another solar panel holder and that’s impossible to get! I was referred to AI answering me and then the only way I could talk to someone is to pay money! Here I am trying to purchase more products and that happened! I probably won’t be buying anymore Tapo cameras!

Great camera with clear video and easy setup

I’ve been using this Tapo security camera for a while and I’m very happy with it. The video quality is clear, the app is easy to use, and I like being able to check the camera from my phone. Installation was straightforward, and it has been reliable for everyday home security. Overall, it’s a practical and easy-to-use camera.

Super quick set up and install

I’m a 70 year old woman—this was super easy to install and set up. Software is user-friendly; cam quality is excellent. I especially like the way the camera can move and pan. Auto light will be welcome walking home after dark.

Check solar panel before mounting

The quality of the video it's incredible day and night. The only issue I encountered was the solar panel. Ours was not connected correctly and we thought the battery was gonna charge after reaching a certain level but no! It should be charging constantly since it goes very slow. If when you connect the solar panel the battery symbol doesn't show as green and charging, review the connection. I would recommend do a test before mounting the camara.

Great bear trash cam !!

Amazingly the thing works great. Including the solar. Tracks great. Picks up movement quickly. Battery stays charged. Add a memory card. You can talk on it from your phone and you can call it from your phone. Spotlight comes on and is very bright. There's a dimmer light when you are viewing on your phone that comes on. Had no issues.

We were confused for a short time because the detection settings for pet/person/vehicle kept turning off. We figured out it happened when we changed it to away mode at night. I'm not sure why that happens unless it's to keep it running full-time? This thing turns on the second the bear walks out of the woods and follows it to my trash can. I can yell at him or set the alarm off and it's very loud. The light comes on and is very bright and it lets my German Shepherd know the bear is here and she gets in the window and runs him out of the trash. The camera and the dog work together. It's been pretty fun watching him stand up against my barbecue and the camera following him as he runs away. I plan to buy another one soon. I just need a way to extend my Wi-Fi 300 ft that actually works. I do recommend this camera.

Not SOLAR

Solar charging not working at all. Thought it will giving few days exposed to direct sunlight. But still not charging see photos below.

Fantastic budget pan and tilt camera.

I bought two of these direct from Tapo. Super easy to install and setup with the app. I don't use the solar panel but the floodlight plus the pan and tilt is fantastic! The person tracking is also very helpful feature. The light and motion tracking are very sensitive. I have it setup to the lowest possible setting and it still tracks people from across my road. Recording is easily accessible and cloud storage is a must.

Great Camera

I've had it about a month and zip tied it to the gutter in the backyard. Since the camera faces the backyard and woods, I can't speak to vehicle detection. I will say that animal and people detection is great. Also, the tracking of the camera is great as well. See attached video. The battery has never fallen below the 95% mark for me. But I will add that my solar panel gets sun most of the day and there isn't much to pick up in the backyard so of course if you live on as busy street and your camera is pointed there you will have different results. I take off one star for the video. While its stationary the video looks great. When it tracks, it pixelates and takes a couple of seconds before it clears up. See my video for that also. Overall I'm very happy with it.

El producto es muy bueno cuando no llueve, pero de dia y cuando no llueve da alertas de movimiento de árboles y los muestra como personas o árboles moviéndose el sensor aveces falla grabado árboles en movimiento en vez de personas punto desfavorable, cuando llueve es peor y de noche si se ve pero la camara de noche se cubre como de una gota luminosa que no deja ver muy bien cuando llueve y el sensor de noche no es tan largo para gravar a personas de lejos distancia esto sucede cuando lo tengo a todo color por las noches aparte otro punto esque el reflector de la camara tiene la opción de mantenerse prendido pero tu la seleccionas y tienes como adivinar para ponerla a funcionar y eso no garantiza que prenda o que se mantenga encendido si no que solo se enciende cuando detecta movimientos de lo contrario el reflector no se puede manteres prendido, creo que talvez lo puedan arreglar con alguna actualización pero hay varias cosas que no estan funcionando bien en la cámara de dia si grava bien pero grava mas árboles que personas o autos.

Don't buy they don't work!

I spent over $500 on 4 different cameras and door alarms and that doesn't include every SD card I bought for all of them and non of my cameras work good at all. They don't follow you like they are supposed too and always say no recording even though I bought sd cards for all of them and they are supposed to be recording continuousluly.

Great Budget Cam

Best Money spent so far! Does its job well with the Alarm and Floodlight to deter unwanted guests. Only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because app can be slow at times when trying to quickly load up the app, unsure if its due to wifi or cam itself. Easy to mount and setup highly recommend for the price!

Awesome picture does a great job!

This camera with light works great. Stays charged, will track you as you walk by even if you're close by and or underneath it. I have had other cameras that lose tracking quickly. This does not it works good.

Reflector y cámara de vigilancia con excelentes funciones todo en uno.

Compré la cámara para unas cabañas en la montaña en Purmamarca, Jujuy, Argentina y funciona genial. Si bien es una zona con mucha intensidad solar, orienté el panel solar del equipo hacia el norte y hasta el momento (una semana de uso), la batería no bajó del 99%. La luz del reflector que trae integrado tiene muy buena potencia y la uso con frecuencia ya que me sirve como un reflector de entrada a la propiedad. Eso no bajó en ningún momento el nivel de la batería. Un excelente producto si necesitás algo para instalar y olvidarse del mantenimiento.

Get it you will love it.

This is the best camera to date. I have been buying and upgrading on my farm for the past 12 years, and I tell you, I am very happy with this one. They hit a home run with this one. In fact, I'm getting another one this coming Sunday. Taking the subpar ones, and these are taking over. I have a guy next door with two pit bulls, and this camera has tracked them coming and going.

Great security camera, all night battery life, simple GUI

I tested this solar-powered outdoor security camera system under real-world conditions and it provides a compelling balance of features and performance for the price. The integrated floodlight and 2K video resolution deliver clear daytime and nighttime footage, and the pan/tilt mechanism expands coverage to minimize blind spots in driveways, yards, and entryways. The solar panel reliably maintained charge through varied sunlight conditions, eliminating frequent manual charging. Setup was user-friendly using the Tapo app, and motion alerts were timely and accurate without an apparent need for a subscription service.

In operation the camera’s AI tracking worked consistently to follow detected subjects across the field of view, and the dimmable floodlight offered useful illumination without oversaturation. Connectivity over standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi was stable, though performance depended on signal strength at the mounting location; in weak signal areas some delays in live view occurred. Local microSD storage option is practical, though users should supply their own card. Integration with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant was straightforward and added convenience for voice-activated checks.

Weaknesses are typical of the category: detection at extreme peripheral angles wasn’t perfect, and the solar panel requires good placement for reliable daily charging — shaded installation noticeably reduced runtime. Given the competitive set of outdoor security cameras today, this unit performs well and is a solid choice for residential sites where wired power isn’t readily available.

There is a delay in pan/tilt, mainly associated with WiFi signal strength, but even with full signal strength, there is still a 2sec delay.

The battery capacity will work all night, so long as the spot light isn’t use, and if so, only briefly.

The quality of the image is remarkable, and my option is I find it to be 1080p.

The camera can be placed just about anywhere there is full sun. Just keep in mind to place the solar panel where it faces a Southernly view.

Sharp image quality

Camera feels well built. Setting the camera up in the app was fairly quick and very easy. Installation was easy and multiple drill guides are included for different mounting positions. I did run into a mild issue with the USB C plug on the solar panel where the rubber O-ring around the plug was slightly misaligned preventing the plug from fully seating into the camera, but once I realized what was holding it up, I was able to fully seat the O-ring into it’s groove with a fingernail, and added a very small amount of silicone grease (not included) onto the O-ring, and it fit. The camera can be mounted horizontally under a soffit or on a wall/vertical surface. The solar panel can be mounted directly to the camera mount or the kit comes with extra parts, like a solar panel extension cable that allows the solar panel to be mounted separately from the camera, making it a little more versatile if the camera is in a shaded area. The image/video quality of the camera was surprisingly sharp. The spotlight, while appearing pretty soft in person, does brighten up the camera’s image quite a bit. The pan/tilt and follow features are fairly good. The pan/tilt movement is a little slow and it is fairly easy to confuse the camera and cause it to lose track if the subject is moving too fast or passes directly underneath the camera. But, for the most part was easily able to follow and identify (person/pet) pretty reliably. No false alerts. It never lost wifi connection and notifications were quick. The battery life, with the solar panel attached, always hovered around 100%.

I'm buying two more, it's that good.

Ran off a trespasser on the 3rd night. I suspected someone was stealing little things off my deck. Ordered this and it was super easy to install. I set it to sound an alarm because my motion detector floodlight wasn't enough of a deterrent. The trespasser ran off at the alarm. The alarm isn't loud enough to wake me up but the notification comes much quicker than my Ring equipment. Super easy to download the video, which is now in the hands of the police.

Just a bit shy of being great

I bought this cam for a couple reasons (direct through Tapo).

My "go to" brand has been letting me down time and time again, I keep looking for something more reliable. Plus, I lack proper lighting in my driveway with no way to power normal floodlights.

This thing paid for itself within a couple days. Powerful floodlight and people detection/tracking, caught someone messing with my car within 2 days of putting it up. The light alone may have been enough to scare them off before anything was damaged. The tracking is quite good, have several other brand cameras to compare tracking to. Definitely not worse.

I love the 24 hour time lapse mode it has. I can get an overall idea of things going on in front of my house without necessarily recording full video. Was able to time lapse some of the solar flares at night even.

I have a very busy street so being able to just filter down to animals and people works great.

Battery life on solar is amazing. It hovers around 100% everyday.

Wifi connection is good, but sometimes seems to stutter on playback, cant really figure out what the cause is. I have an outdoor hub that it connects to a mesh system, it's not more than about 15 feet away from it.

Picture quality is decent, but would love a higher res image or maybe at least greater field of view when stationary.

The only gripe I have, and have to dock a star for this, is the lack of an option for the camera to return to a default position if it's moved in the app. Not only that, but when it's tracking someone, it seems to have a brain glitch and forget where it started from. Only hours later will I pull up the feed and see it's stick pointing at the garage door instead of my driveway. It SHOULD normally return to the last position you left it if it starts tracking, but even once a week is too much for this to be happening. The lack of customer support is also something to be weary of.

For the price, this is a great value solar powered camera + floodlight combo. Really hard to beat at the moment.
