Solid No Frills Level 2 EV Charger (50 Amps)

After installing a 240v outlet in the garage, the step up to a level 2 EV charger (and 40-50 Amps) has been a game changer. The vehicle has gone from charging at 3.6 kilowatts per hour (kWh) to 11.3 kWh. Charging now takes around 4 hours versus more than half a day. We did have an issue with the charger showing a black screen, cable coming loose, and not functioning properly, but reaching out to TopAutoGear resolved any and all pain points. We continue to use this charger today. If you're looking for a no frills (i.e., no bluetooth connection or modern display) level 2 charger, this is a solid choice. Especially, if you can nab it during a sale and it comes out cheaper than its competitors (level 2 chargers are expensive).

Plug-N-Play L2 EV Charger - BMW owner

Plug-N-Play Lev2 EV Charger

The BMW charger that came with my 2025 BMW iX started failing within 1 hour of plugging in. Dealer had to replace the unit.

I decided to purchase the TopAutoGear product after reading some of the customer feedback.

Product was delivered in about 18 hours of order placement; how awesome!

Opened up the box and the unit was very carefully packed with proper packing materials and bubble wrap on the charging unit, NEMA 14-50 plug and J1772 plug.

I plugged the unit to my NEMA 14-50 outlet (rated at 40A), connected the J1772 plug to the EV port and I got the blue light (indicating that charging is on) in a few seconds. At a rate of 9 KwH, it went from 48% to 80% in about 4 hours.

I was able to switch charge rating to 50 amps without any issue.

Simple and easy to use and works flawlessly as expected (just like when I use the original charger that came with the vehicle).

Overall, I am quite impressed with the ease of use and expected outcome. I highly recommend this product.

More than happy with this charger. Tesla 3.

Works great! Using this charger with my 2025 Tesla 3 AWD Highland. Configured it for 50 amps, and it uses 48/50 which is exactly what it should do.

I tried the Tesla branded mobile charger and it only charges at 32 amps even when connected to a 50 amp circuit.

No issues with overheating.

Great for the money, and features!

I bought this for the price, and features. I wanted a 50 amp charger, to compliment the 110 charger that came with the 2014 Leaf I bought. I'm OK if it only goes to 48, when 50 is selected. I doubt I ever will get to use that setting. The charger only puts out what the onboard charger demands. Even when I run it down below the 20% minimum I like to keep, the car will only draw 26 Amps when plugged in, and it displays the amperage it is putting out to vehicle. You can watch it taper off, when nearing 100%. It takes only @2 1/2 hours to go to full charge from @ 25%. Looks and feels substantial for a quality feel. Works well, display is useful, and very clear.

Great Purchase - Highly Recommend

This works as advertised. I had a 220 line installed with a 50 amp breaker to handle the highest level of charging. It works great. I highly recommend!

Great Charger

When selecting the amp output, click the button once to move to different options. Once you get to the option you want to select/change, hold down the button (5 dots will count across the bottom of the screen) until the dots stop, release the button and your selection will be made. So far this has been great. I have 50 amp selected on the charger but my 2013 Tesla Model S will only charge at 40amps (in car settings).

Charging at 50 amp

Just bought this and put my Tesla for charging. I was skeptical as many reviews were stating it give only 40 amps and not 50 amps. By default it gives 40 amps. I pressed the button on the panel multiple times to set the right time and amp and it is it set at 50 amps. The reviewers who mentioned that it is stuck at 40 amps may not know how to how set it. The manual is useless. I am still looking to see if it can be supported by any app. So far it did not look

This is not a 50 amp charger!

The process is going going but at this point, I do not see a resolution with this company. Do not buy this if you are looking for a 50 amp charger..
