Speakerphone Great, Cam Not So Much

Between talking with clients and teaching, I do video calls everyday of the week, so I need to be seen and heard. I have been using a headset and webcam in my setup, but was looking to ditch the headset for a good speakerphone. So when I saw the combo that Toucan had to offer I was pretty excited, I use one of their security cams and I'm pleased with the video quality, so I thought this would be just as good.

First let me start with the speaker and microphone. The build quality is solid, comes with 2 usb ports, nice touch controls, and it looks good, very modern. The speaker sound quality is good, a little bit on the bassy side, but it's loud enough for my uses and I can understand whoever is calling me. As far as the microphone it has worked perfectly, my students and clients have said they can hear me clearly, and I have experienced no feedback or any other problems.

As far as the webcam is concerned, it's basically unusable in my setup. My face is completely blown out, meaning too much light, it doesn't even compete with the webcam I was hoping to replace that is over 10 years old. I've tried all kinds of adjustments and the video is just not good, so I was really disappointed with it. Everything else looked fine like the background and the surrounding area, and I do like the wide angle look it produced.

As far as setup, it was as easy as plugging everything in and Windows automatically recognized it, and the systems works with all the conferencing software I use as well.

It Works - I'd say the mic could be better...needs some improvement!

Number 1: It actually works

It was very easy to assemble

I didn't need any instructions because each cable was easy to discover and plug in

The camera sufficiently includes participants in view allowing for a successful conference with multiple individuals.

You can use the camera as a standalone or with the microphone and vice versa. This flexibility makes it really nice in case you want to use it for multi-purposes.

I'm not going to say that this camera and microphone quality is worth the price.

Mainly I say this because I have yet to find ANY webcam mic (system) that has enough sound quality where I've not used a different source for my audio. I'd much rather use a secondary audio source than the webcam.

Don’t expect to get studio quality with the mic. It works just fine for what the manufacturer is advertising it as, a video conference system.

This system has a very nice wide angle lens. It is very nice, does a good job capturing video. The footage is clear and the colors well represented.

I tested this system with multiple individuals and also with a single person in a studio

Please, please, please do not buy this camera if you only plan to use it for a one-person in-studio chat session. It is really designed for a multiple person conference.

At this price point, the sound system needs more improvement, thus I can only give it 3 stars.

nice webcam and mic!

I really like the idea of webcam and speaker combo specially for the conference calls. One amazing thing about this set is that you do not need to necessarily put the camera on top of the speaker, you can actually mount the camera on top of you monitor or any other places ( they include other accessories for mounting in other places) and connect it via some wire (also included) to the speaker. Overall I am very satisfied with the webcam and speaker quality!

Good quality webcam with amazing sound for meetings

I needed a webcam/speaker combo for meeting rooms, and this device fits the bill nicely for both tasks. The video quality is good; typically better than video displayed through conferencing software allows for, so the limit on quality is, in my experience, not so much the camera as is the software and network.

This camera doesn't track you (some software will do this utilizing a wide-angle camera such as the camera included in this product), but is wide-angle so it can capture people quite well sitting at a table in a conference room.

Sound quality is really excellent. The speaker is omni-directional, and the microphone picked up our voices well and people on the other end of the calls said we were loud and clear.

Setup was super simple; just plug it in to AC power and USB, turn it on, and the PC's detected everything properly right away.

Bluetooth: this is for the sound only. It can be useful when needing a conference device to use with a phone or tablet, but then you can't use the camera.

Versatile and high quality video conferencing camera

I've finally accepted the reality that the prevalence of the 'video call' isn't going to fade even though the COVID pandemic is pretty much in the rear view mirror. Since no one will accept my shabby excuses for not looking professional on video calls I've decided to set up my own 'Zoom Room'. This way I'll have a professional setting for the call, have all of the necessary tech devices set up and ready to go and will only have to worry about being semi-coherent and looking somewhat human.

I've got all of the equipment I need for my dedicated video calling/conferencing setup except the most important one--a camera. I've got a decent webcam on my PC so I thought about using that. Ultimately, I figured that I should get a camera designed specifically for conference calls with multiple participants. There might be times when I have two or three people with me in the 'Zoom Room' and should that occur there are dedicated cameras that handle it better than even the best webcam.

This evening, I tested out conference room style webcams. I tested a half dozen different conference room style cams and evaluated as many of the features that would be relevant to an actual video call as possible. Ultimately, this camera fared well in terms of quality and performance. It was also by far the most versatile camera. It also had the best audio and was right at the top of best video quality.

With the video, I tested several different apps and light levels. I also tested it on my desktop and laptop PCs running Ubuntu. I give the video features high marks--I looked good in every video setting, with the camera performing particularly well in low light. It had a wide field of vision--important for a conference call setting--and all of the associates I brought in for testing were able to fit on screen (actually, I brought three cats into my office to play the role of co-workers). Colors were good, I didn't look washed out and you could see the fur markings on all three cats very clearly.

The audio was excellent--not surprising since the camera is sitting on a big speaker. The speaker delivered excellent sound quality and the microphone had me coming in loud and clear no matter where I moved in my office. It wasn't as easy to set up as some of the other cameras, but for a good reason--it offers so many different configuration possibilities and connection options that you have to figure out what will work best for your specific needs. Once you figure it out, set up is easy and the camera worked great on my Ubuntu based PCs. It also has a dedicated power cord--not all cameras in this price range do. In terms of aesthetics, it lapped the field--it's a great looking unit that is arguably the best looking camera of this type on the market (at least in this price range).

One complaint--I wish there was a lens cap or some other protective option included. I'm sure I can find something aftermarket, but protecting the lens is pretty essential. A travel case would have also been great--particularly since there are so many connection options and cords to deal with. Unlike most cameras of this type, the camera can be detached from the speaker/base and used separately. This is a nice feature, but I can also envision losing the camera at some point in transit.

Those are very minor gripes for what is essentially a very good camera. It is extremely versatile, very well made and creates quality output. Plus it looks really cool sitting on your desk! Great option if you need a conference style camera.
