Not recording at times

Have contacted customer support with no actual help … memory is in good health .. WiFi strength strong .. and have rebooted it … but sometimes out of nowhere it says it doesn’t record and when it does for some reason it just doesn’t record … for a security camera this is bad thinking you recorded and event but nothing was actually recorded … I believe maybe bad hardware at play … I have done everything I can from my side it’s just ridiculous

Muy satis fecho . Para el precio y la calidad de la cámara . De noche se ve muy bien . A veces si noto que los colores están un poquito saturados pero creo q es configuración de la camara

Ok, but partially crippled

It's pretty good for the price.

It suffers from standard English translation problems in the instructions and even in the app.

The real problem is that TP-Link deliberately cripples their cameras. Once you set up Wi-Fi in the app there is no way to change either the SSID or password from the app. You need to physically access the camera and partially reset it.

There is no way to delete individual videos from the SD card. You read that right - either you format the entire SD card, or retain the videos you don't want on there. They do at least allow you to download the videos you do want via their app.

I think the camera is crippled purposely to encourage subscribing to their cloud storage.

While the video quality is okay, it is aggressively compressed and over sharpened.

These are all things I wish someone would have warned me about before I purchased.

It’s a nice camera with great night vision!

The clearest Tapo camera I have! Very clear vision during the day & night. The only reason it’s 4 stars is because the power cord quit working 3 weeks after I put it up & the camera is under a shelter outside so it’s not in direct rain or anything, also has the waterproof plugs that came with it. I fortunately had an extra cord from another camera I do not use anymore & was able to fix it. Mounting is easy. App on your phone is easy to use also. It can be a little sensitive sometimes, rain sets it off & I have to turn off notifications while it’s raining otherwise I have 100+ notifications but I guess I’d rather it be over sensitive rather than missing something. This camera has a setting you can follow someone if they are walking around & I really like that feature. So far the camera quality seems great!

Pretty solid unit

I've had this camera for over a year and it has performed reliably. It is like any home security camera in that once in awhile motion tracking isnt smooth rarely for me) and sometimes it is a second or two to start recording.

However, I am currently using this as a bird bath camera..lol. It has been sitting outside since May in direct sunlight, full exposure through weeks worth of mid to upper 90's at 5000 elevation. The birds have knocked it over countless times with no apparent effect. I did have to scrape the lens cover off. It was getting foggy. I imagine it will start degrading at some point, but I will also not be surprised if it just soldiers on. I definitely got my money's worth.

This is a complete scam

SCAM, they just want you to pay for the app, and on top of that once I did it stopped working on my other devices which was the point of buying it so now I’m down $85 with a useless camera I have to replace

Outstanding feature-set for this auto pan and tilt security camera

I own several brands of security cameras covering my entire property and this TP-Link Tapo camera is my favorite one. I have owned this camera for about a year and it has performed flawlessly. The camera is feature-packed and I love that it automatically pans and tilts to follow the subect it is tracking. It does so even in sub-freezing temperatures, although I will admit that I have the unit installed beneath a soffit and somewhat protected from the elements.

The video quaity is excellent, even in darkness when it relies on infrared. In daylight or when the LED light is enabled at night, the picture quality is even better.

The functionality of this camera is also excellent and the features are too numerous to list completely. The functions work via a downloadable app and you can control pan/tilt, LED light, detection sensitivity options, and much more. It has an expansion slot for an optional Micro SD cards up to 512 GB to store images and videos. It also overwrites the card automatically when it is full.

The camera is powered by a standard 110 volt plug-in AC adapter with a 6-foot long cord. The adapter has a weatherproof connection to protect against the elements. I was able to install the camera and configure it to my Wi-Fi in under an hour. This camera is a powerful addition to my home security network and I feel safer with its ability to see, track, and record anyone approaching my property. It's also a fun way to observe wildlife that passes by. It's a great product and I highly recommend it for its many features and reliable performance.

The Tapo security camera

delivers excellent image quality for its price, with sharp 2K/QHD resolution and reliable night vision. Setup is quick through the Tapo app, and the motion detection works accurately without too many false alerts. The pan/tilt models offer great coverage, and overall build quality feels solid. A great value option for home security.”

Buy it own risk if you absolutely love horrible customer service or none at all

I bought eight of these cameras back in July 2024 so I’ve had them about that long. It’s been a little over a year and had a problem where my camera at the end of the driveway stopped working. The light wasn’t on when I went out there, the plug worked that it plugged into, but the camera itself wouldn’t work so I took a plug off one of the other cameras that are identical to this one to see if maybe it was just a faulty plug plugged it in and it worked so I left that plug-in and figured I’d buy another plug for the one that I replaced it with two days later Camera goes off-line. I go back outside unplug it plug it back in I don’t see any lights on the camera then I hear sizzling and see smoke. Turns out that there’s probably a short in the camera that is shorting out the plug which is causing a fire hazard. In all the cameras are great. I’ve had no problems with any of the other ones whatsoever. The problem that I have is with the Customer Service as with most products these days. I literally called these people talk to them on the phone. Explain the problem said listen, plugged it in it turned my outlet black from so I had to have my electrician come out and replaced the outlet and I told him I would send him pictures of the Insurance purchase plan that I purchased for 2 to 3 years that I would send him copies of the purchases of the Camera and the dates and everything which I did, they have enough stones to email me back, asking me if I could please send a video clip of plugging the plug back into the wall and letting them here at sizzle so they could process a return. I have never in my life ever heard of anybody asking somebody to try to plug a plug that is already faulty and a fire hazard back into their wall that has already turned the outlet black from smoking. He reads this and then sends me back another email asking for the same thing do not count on anything with this Customer Service or at least that’s what I’ve experienced and literally over a camera that’s around $70. ::: UPDATE::: I just got off an email with Support from tapo and basically they won’t cover it even though it was bought a little over a year ago they say their limited warranty. I actually bought around 10 or more of these in different models as I liked the cameras very much when I got them and I wanted to put together my own surveillance system instead of buying a complete package with DVR so I decided to do was use a microSD card the highest gig I could get for it and put it on loop recording on top of that I also downloaded the blue Iris program online which is $60 and you get to add unlimited devices $30. You can add up to one or two. The good thing about blue Iris is you can access your cameras from anywhere outside of your house and it is very reliable works with most surveillance cameras and you can actually run a physical DVR as well if you would like so I figure it for spending roughly $49 a camera in some cases $25 for the nun 2K ones that it would be worth it and when I got them, I was pleasantly surprised on how good they were and how good the quality seemed. Although I cannot stand in the companies, customer support and ignorance at this point in time where I am still baffled that they would ask a customer to plug in a faulty wire that they know is faulty and smoking so they can hear and see the sound and smoke, knowing that you were gonna take a risk of burning yourself or possibly catching the outlet on fire that you already told them the outlet is black on the outside from the smoke and charring. The camera in the front which surprised me on how good it was and why I bought more when I had a major wind and ice storm. I had a huge top section of a tree snap in half and fall, right where I usually walk my dogs and the Camera literally picked it up. You can hear a crack crack. There was no motion in the cameras view whatsoever to trigger it, maybe the sound did all of a sudden, two seconds later after hearing the crack crack, you see the huge top portion of the tree fall directly in front of the camera, which was amazing and on these cameras, literally it triggers the camera before you even see the animal or a person or a vehicle come in the frame literally two seconds before it appears which is amazing to me that it can detect it before hand. This is one of the reasons I decided to buy more and like I said this is one camera out of many but my grip is the customer support so the cameras are really really well built. I would purchase them, but I would definitely purchase the insurance plan with them as well and if I were you if you have something go wrong with the cameras, just tell him it went down it broke you don’t know what’s wrong because once you start getting into talking with them, they’re gonna do everything they can to try to get you down to where they won’t cover it so best thing is let them figure it Out ship them the Camera have them refund your money and let it be done. Sorry for the long book, I just wanted to get my thoughts out there and hope to save you guys some headaches or help you out I would definitely if I were you check out like I said the blue Iris program I make no money off of it. I have no affiliation with it whatsoever. I just think it’s a good program to use if you do not have a physical DVR or even if you do and want to go that way because you could basically buy eight cameras for about $400 quality cameras the 4K ones in here that are about $49 even the 1080 P ones are good and then you add the blue Iris program on top for $60. You’re looking at a complete package full surveillance system for under $600 well a little above with microSD cards if you decide to use those as well and like I said, even with the microSD cards, you can get a small gig and just put it on a loop recording and not have to worry about it anymore. Hope this helped.

Excellent buy good price !

Excellent camera I'm impressed with the picture quality and the firmware Tapo is doing a good job however the home and away mode is a good idea however it resets all the settings to default.also from a theoretical perspective one should be able to turn off the motion setting because even at the lowest sensitivity even the leave trigger his event .night vision is excellent the 4 reset scenes for the pan is great

I can quickly pan a full 180 with these presets.

I really put this cam through the paces .though the rain without any major issue only bit of haze on the lens .As the sun came out it quickly evaporated

Tapo's team is doing an excellent job with the cloud software it can only get better as te S.W version upgrade

I decided to go with the brand because I believe I will be supportive with updates etc

Not worth the money

I went with this camera after reading numerous positive reviews. Our Google nest was 6 years old & I wanted an upgrade. I guess my hopes were too high for this cheap camera. I would expect the quality of this out of a $25 camera not $65. Everything looks speckled & poor quality. Taking this down & going back to my nest. I would also like to mention, I have a Wyze in my backyard & the picture is 100x better then this junk.

You get what you pay for

At least it didn’t cost me a small fortune to find out that this camera was not what I hoped it would be. It has changed from color to black-and-white, it doesn’t rotate 360°, often stopping at only 180 saying that it can’t go any further. Is not very sensitive and always seems to be facing the wall. I will be looking for something more reliable. The Video speaks for it's self.

Goodbye Wyze, hello Tapo!

I’ll be writing this on all the Tapo cameras I’ve recently purchased. (4x C110, 2x C210, 2x C520WS)

These are flawless, amazing, and so far ahead of Wyze it’s not even funny. They are massively affordable, truly need no subscription, have fantastic features in their app, can record locally to an SD card; everything you would want. Coming from Wyze (see more below), I didn’t know that cameras were supposed to act like this. I assumed, at Wyze prices, that I was getting what I paid for. But when I finally had enough constant stress and spent the money to change to Tapo… my life has been changed. Seriously, I probably added years to my life not being so stressed out all the time because my cameras never, ever worked right. These do, and I cannot say it enough times… if you’re currently using Wyze then get one of these. Use it for a week side-by-side and tell me what you think.

Super light, have a few of mine mounted with ‘hard plastic velcro’ (3M Dual Lock). Setup is fast and easy, and works right away. Don’t have to do it over and over again (Wyze). Clarity is superb - 1440p quality. Night vision is phenomenal. Don’t really care about ‘color’ night vision - but my outdoor ones do have it. And one of the best parts is Tapo is part of TP-Link. What does that mean? TP-Link has been around for a very long time, and they specialize in networking equipment, LoL. So yeah, if you want a reliable camera on your network, who better to trust than a networking company.

TLDR: Don’t waste your time on any other brand. Buy these. I promise you won’t regret it.

About Wyze:

If you’re like me and never wanted to spend thousands on home monitoring and security, then you may have stumbled upon Wyze cameras. At first, they were amazing - very affordable with no subscription necessary. And they worked. Over time, that changed drastically as they ventured into making everything else on the planet instead of focusing on their roots (cameras). They funded that stuff by changing to a subscription policy. And in their haste had multiple security breaches and problems such as other people viewing cameras that aren’t theirs. This is of course while the software and hardware has become so incredibly bad that they’re unusable. I mean, they actually do not function 92% of the time. Whether it’s freezing, not connecting, stuttering so bad that it looks like a PowerPoint presentation, app for closing, etc.

Very Impressive for the price.

Great quality and features for the price. I did a little customization for the install. The wire coming out of the camera was rather bulky so i used a vinyl block to hide some of the wire. I like the fact that it has local storage and you don't need cloud storage.

Extremely good camera

I have had several PTZ cameras over the years. This is absolutely the best camera I have ever purchased. Extremely easy to set up. Integrated seamlessly with my existing Kasa system.i use the camera to turn on outside lighting. Low level lighting mode is amazing. Active tracking works great.

Not Color Night Vision

The camera has a spotlight that can turn on and they are calling this color night vision? Very misleading. The Tapo 325WB has color night vision… But no pan option. I was told by TP Link support that the not yet available C525WB will allow color. No release date as of May 2024.

This is WELL worth the money

I am amazed at the image quality but am really amazed with the night vision - my back yard is a good size and the camera is mounted 15ft above the ground and you can see whole yard, you can make out a face at the far corner of the yard when it is pitch dark out. All and all this is so worth the money. The only cons I got is there is a delay between you telling it to pan and it acting, but as long as you know this you get used to it and it is no big deal. Another is downloading videos, 50% of the time you have to try 2 maybe 3 times to download a video but it eventually, and always works at one point.
