Nice lock but had an issue

The lock is solid and is fairly straightforward to install. It is aesthetically pleasing and functions well. It would easily be a 5 star item, but I had a major issue with our lock. On the back of the keypad plate is a piece that extends into the deadbolt hole. Our locks plate was installed crooked. Because of this, the bolt holes could not align. In order to align the bolt holes, the keypad was 10 degrees crooked. Luckily, this extension can be removed. I have a photo of this extension. Also, I tried to show how this piece was hitting the deadbolt pin. You can see the metal rubbing away. Other than this issue, it was easy to install.

Super handy lock, although connecting to the Wi-Fi at first was a struggle

The lock itself works really well. What I really like is the ability to give temporary codes to people who take care of my animals when I’m away. I can set a different code each day or keep one active for a longer period—whatever works best. If more than one person needs access, it’s easy to assign them separate codes. There’s also a permanent code I can use for myself. It’s all very flexible and simple to manage in the app.

Using the lock is straightforward: just punch in the code and press the lock button. That’s it. Very user-friendly once everything’s set up. Its reaction time is quite fast as seen in the video. You can also unlock and lock from the app.

Now, I’m not going to lie—the app gave me a hard time. I couldn’t get it to connect to Wi-Fi no matter what I tried. I had to keep resetting the lock by taking off the back where the batteries are and using the included reset tool. I ended up reaching out to customer service, and while their advice wasn’t new to me, the lock eventually connected after I kept trying the same steps over and over. I have no idea what changed, but it finally worked. From what I’ve seen, most people don’t seem to have trouble with this part—lucky them!

Once it’s connected, the remote features are great. I can lock the door when I’m not home, see who’s used a code and how many times. That’s really convenient and gives me peace of mind.

Wifi, Bluetooth, Physical Key, Fingerprint...all you can ask for!!!!

Super easy install and app setup. Fingerprint recognition has been flawless so far. This also has a physical key which is a huge bonus. Pair the physical key with wifi control and you have every feature you could want in a smart lock.

It works but it's not great. Not for everyone because the remote is finicky.

I'm giving this lock a tepid review.

The pros:

It's a complete set, comes well packaged, has installation instructions that are legible and understandable. Seems to work as advertised.

The fingerprint pad works and the keyboard works. It's hard to see the keys since everything is black so it looks modern but it's mostly just a pain to find the keys. It does light up at night which is better but on a cloudy day, it's hard to see.

The Cons:

1. The build quality is okay but just okay. the outside casing is made of metal, the inside is made of plastic. It's not the thick kind that seem like it will last a long time, it's more like the kind on toys, it feels thin and not like it will last more than a few years. I don't think it would be hard to break this lock from the outside. I didn't try it but it's not a lock for a high crime area at all. The battery cover and the battery holder is not high quality, the way the batteries are enclosed is more like a toy than a serious piece of hardware.

2. The operating instructions are kind of a mess. I got through them but it's not fun. The app is called TreatLife and it's okay but nothing great. I got it to work, I'll say that much.

3. This little gateway box is included. At first, I thought it was just to get it setup but it turns out, it has to be plugged into a USB powersource for life. The lock will not operate remotely without this box.

4. They say it works with ALEXA and I believe them. But if you read the instructions, they're just stupid. They use the instructions for setting up an Echo device without any mention of their own lock. It's like the cut and pasted the instructions. It's just stupid and weak. I couldn't get it to work despite connecting other things to ALEXA. I'm really frustrated.

5. No real customer support.

I don't like this lock and I would not buy another. For some people, I'm sure it would be fine, especially if you don't care about the remote operation.

I think you should look elsewhere for a lock.

Overall Great Smart Lock, if you can get past the setup.

So far, this lock has caused me a considerable amount of frustration while setting it up. I unboxed the door lock and it looked almost identical to another lock I had with a pad and fingerprint reader right down to the back switch with circuit board and everything. Hookups appeared the same. So the install for it should be almost identical right? Wrong. It took me forever to feed the secure mounting screws between front/back of the door to engage them together. Try as I might, I struggled to get them to feed into the threads on the other side. Once I would get one lined up. It would be way crooked and hard to secure the other. After almost 25 minutes of futzing with getting the hang of screwing it together I finally got the threads to bite on both sides, unfortunately I made the mistake of swishing the bolt open because it took the most amount of tension off to pass the screws through. Big mistake! What resulted ruined my troubleshooting for the next hour or so. I got everything else mounted and popped the batteries in. Tested function and it slide the bolt back/forth so I went to move onto the hub pairing. Initially when I plugged it in, it did not recognize automatically in my app so I had to hold the pairing button on the hub for 5 seconds then scan from the app. It showed scanning for devices until I tapped a red exclamation mark at the top of the page which then asked me for my network credentials (SSID & password) which i inputted. This then paired the hub. I then went to add device and it was not finding anything. I went back over to the lock and cycled the open/shut. Then re-scanned and it popped up in the list. I found it unusual that the app saw the connection as bluetooth however as it said from in the connection page. I then inputted my fingerprint which was taken and tried to cycle closed the door and re-open. I found to my surprise that everything was behaving backward. I would have to hit the thumbprint to "lock" and the lock button to unlock. I tried and got the same effect with the default 123456 password. The lock was working entirely backwards, but how could that be, I installed it with the correct side facing upward. I took the batteries out and played with deleting and re-adding the app to the phone but it resorted to failure. I then removed everything and checked the connections on the lock, confirming the position of the UP markings and paying specific note to where it lined up. I looked back through the directions and found I was supposed to install the lock with the bolt in the "unlocked" or closed position. I quickly reversed my steps and had to re-apply the tricky screws again to test. With everything plugged in, I struggled to get the lock to "unlocked" as I felt a motor feedback even with no power on. Once I cycled on with batteries the lock engaged but sounded like it was struggling and began clicking like it was stuck. I tried sliding closed and unlocking but again had an error. This had me in a state where I tried removing batteries with every combination and could not get the lock to engage. I was about to pack it up and send back but I briefly remembered there was a tool included in the kit for a reset switch on the lock itself. I carefully pressed the reset switch and held. The lock recycled itself and flashed red. I then had to re-pair the lock on my phone's app. **This time when I tested, I got the proper lock/unlock function so clearly it LEARNS which direction to travel the first time it runs.**

Everything more or less else was smooth sailing except when I tried using it to unlock my front door from the app. I noticed that if I wasn't close enough or if I went on cellular with no wifi in testing it would not unlock. This is where I realized it said Bluetooth connection in the settings. I wound up having to remove the hub and Lock from my list. Re-pair the Hub. Then the lock. Since doing this everything has been working very smoothly. Although there's not a shortcut that can be placed for the lock itself, there is a setting from the HUB that allows you to Send to HomeScreen. I used this to make the shortcut 2 clicks away. My only qualm outstanding is the performance from the Alexa app and tools is underwhelming and very hard to make work. I've found that if you switch on the settings you can get the lock in Alexa to respond to voice command to lock/unlock the door which is neat but to this day, I have NOT been able to control it from the Alexa app as indicated in the settings. It gives me a notice all the time that it's "LOCKED" and refuses to show progress if you hit the engage button from Alexa. I believe there's a bug in there, perhaps because it's not mainstream market yet.

Overall, I've decided to keep this lock because it is versatile and allows the ability to program many separate users including temporary or even send a command to manually unlock from virtually anywhere. I've had great success with all my other host of Treatlife products in my house including an exterior camera which functions flawlessly. The product is very good. I feel like this particular product/door lock, is kind of missing the mark on what I would hope to achieve with making life simpler. That being said, this is an early iteration and I look forward to future firmware or setup enhancements that may compliment or offset the errors currently in production.

Wow … very cool item!

Very impressed with this door lock. So many options to use this item … key, keypad, fingerprint, bluetooth! All parts and pieces are there and I look forward to installing this with my husband this weekend! Have a keypad on our front door and love it but this one has so many more options. My only complaint or criticism would be that the face & buttons of the keypad are the same color (black) so in daylight you have to stand at the right angle to see the buttons and I think at night/dark it will be impossible to see the numbers.
