Not so easy to program.
Go with the SDS100, it’s way easier to program.

Love this scanner! Background: Have been into scanners for about 40 years or so. Worked in Fire/Rescue and Law Enforcement for the better part of 25 years. Some of my favorite scanners in the past have been the 246T, the 346XT, the 396XT and the Radio Shack Pro 668 which I did the Legacy upgrade to with Whistler.. My current scanners prior to the 325P2 that I used regularly were the 396XT and the Pro-668. When I got the 325P2 I programmed it real quick using Freescan. This unit picks up signals clearer than my older 2 scanners. Speaker on the 325P2 is way better than any scanner I've ever had in the past and I've had a lot. I like the form factor. As others have noted it only takes two AA batteries but I found that with fully charged batteries I get several hours worth of use out of it. Just have an extra spare set of batteries and rotate them out and that problem is solved. I would not recharge batteries inside scanner. Of course this style of scanner is very difficult for most people to program. I think that's why people get frustrated and return these units so frequently. There are a lot of videos out there on how to program this scanner with Freescan.
On a side note, when the scanner was on sale for Black Friday week it was going for $322. I chose one in Like New condition, which according to their policy means that the unit should be pristine and everything that it originally comes with is included and that means the original box as well although the Box may be slightly damaged. The original price for my purchase was $315 but then they knocked off 20% because it was a used unit which brought it down to about $250. When I got the delivery it was missing the original box which I kind of wanted in case I ever sell it in the future when a new scanner comes out that I want. The scanner had never been programmed and every single accessory was still in the original Uniden packaging as well as the scanner. Not a mark on it. I was very very happy with this particular role of the dice. I briefly thought of getting the SDS100 which I'm sure is a fine scanner but there was just something that wouldn't let me spend $650 plus tax on that scanner. For the deal I got on the 325P2 I am super happy!

I payed full price for this scanner which is listed as new but it is clearly not new and on top of that it says batteries included both in description and in the manual, but there are no batteries and the box is smashed a little and there are scratches on the screen. The manuals are dirty like someone has handled them a lot. Also the twist tie that is on the USB cable looks like it came off a bread wrapper it is not what they use in packaging these scanners. I will see if it works after writing this review. The Scratches are hard to see when I took pictures but the slightly damaged box and bread wrapper twist tie are easily seen. There was no plastic protective bag on the scanner and no protective film to peal off of the screen.

Great radio but NOT for the un-tech savvy! You'll need to download "FreeSCAN" software and subscribe to Radioreference.com! There's youtube videos that show you how to do this! This is not your daddy's scanner or your grandpa's!

It's a nice little scanner for the money and very easy to program if you use something like RadioReference and FreeSCAN. That way you don't have to manually enter in 100's of frequencies.
The rechargeable batteries that come with it stink! (Made in China) and only last about 4 hours if you're lucky on a full charge.
I would highly recommend you invest in a couple of Lithium/Li-ion Batteries AA batteries like the TENAVOLTS First Generation Rechargeable batteries which will give you more than 7 hours of seamless enjoyment.
I've also ordered a Diamond (Original) RH77CA 144/440 MHz. Dual-Band High Gain Handheld Antenna for it to see if I can clearly pick up more channels - (I'll let you know).
Overall, it was a good purchase!

Purchased as a radio hobbyist. This device is exactly what I needed. Simple to use when set up. I used FreeScan to program which was easy to do. Operation is easy to manage and navigate. This does everything I wanted and more.

after reading previous reviews I was a little afraid to even start programing my scanner however after signing up at radio reference and downloading the freescan softqare I was up and running in about 15 minutes.... I'm learning something new everyday about my scanner...
one thing I wish is that the battery life was longer but it shouldn't be too much of an issue since I will primarily using my scanner at home while I'm crafting and such.... also wish the batteries would charge while it is plugged in....
with all said I'm very happy with my purchase of the bcd325p2.

Payed for itself in a short time of uses! A Coworker and friend had the Ch.s I needed programmed in his lap top. Plugged in and the next night picked up on major news story even in next county!
