Wrong items

This is only for DVD!

And it doesn't work anyway. If you go to your web that convinced me, I wanted to buy the same items described and no this that I became. I'm a professional Singer and need to move my music in Cds to my laptop and surprise! my supposed incredible items was for nothing!😟

Defective and used player sent to me.

I received a used and defective player that still had someone else's CD in it! I returned it for another one, hopefully that works.

Nice options

I got this for it's DVD/CD burning capabilities. This one has some advantages. Comes with an SD card port that has a micro SD card slot for using both... Plug and Play...

A good buy...

HANDY DANDY CD/DVD EXTERNAL DRIVE

Simple and Easy - this CD / DVD external drive does what it says.

All I had to do was to plug in the USB connection and VIOLA! it worked!

As you can see from my pictures, my first DVD that I watched was "A Few Good Men". Enjoyed being able to do my work, as well as take a break and enjoy a good movie.

Included with this CD/DVD are:

2 - USB-A ports

1 - USB-C port

SD card slot

The things I don't like:

No Manual

Blue Flashing Lights that are very annoying. I took black electrical tape and put it over them - which helped immensely.

All-in-all a very doable and easy to set up CD/DVD player.

Atherney Family Farm

Fantastic, versatile addition...

This is a great accessory that packs a lot into a single package. It functions as a plug and play, so as soon as you plug it in it works. It has additional USB ports and an SD card slot, so it more than replaces the USB port it takes to connect. It also includes an adapter for microSD cards, so you'll be able to plug in whatever card you need.

FINAL WORD: If you want an external disk drive, this one is fantastic.

1 Star away for annoying blue LED's

This CD/DVD burner does everything it says it can do. It can even annoy you! It has a series of 8 blue LED's that blink on and off, do a chase pattern and flash quickly for no apparent reason. I found a way to disable them. See update at bottom of review. One half star deducted for making me open it up :).

On the other hand this is working nicely as an external CD/DVD burner and USB-A 3.0, 2.0, USB-C and SD card hub. It even comes with an SD card adapter to read micro-SD cards. It also had a USB-A 2.0 to micro USB cable included to power the drive in case you don't have a laptop.

I burned an image file using IMG BURN and then did a re-write with great results. I've also tested each of the USB ports. They show up as an individual drives on my Windows 10 PC with no driver installation. This will add a total of 5 drives to your PC if each port is occupied as noted by the included photo. Drives G,H,I,K & M are the 4 ports plus the DVD RW drive itself. Warning. do not plug in the USB micro cable if the other cable is plugged into a laptop.

The transfer speed between ports is pretty slow. I transferred a 1.4 GB file with an average of only 8Mb/s. But these are transfer speeds based on older flash drives to a micro SD card from the 2010's. Your results may vary.

This will charge your phone, but only as a slow charge. It will charge a little faster if you use the USB-C at the Y end of the cable instead of the USB-A.

Overall this is a good addition as an external drive/hub for a laptop. The cable is way too short to be used with my desktop PC's. Another 1/2 star deducted.

Update: I took it apart. Inside is a good quality HL (Hitachi/LG) model GTB0N 5.25" slimline SATA CD/DVD burner. I disabled the LED's by simply unplugging the little white connector shown in my attached photos. Please note, you WILL void your warranty by doing so.

Worked Great, Plug & Play on iMac

I ordered this handy computer accessory for playing CDs/DVDs since hardly any computers have built-in drives anymore. This was plug and play, working instantly right out of the box, is obviously portable, and seems sturdy. I tested multiple discs and everything was accessible, loaded quickly, and played smoothly with no problem. i haven't tried it yet on my older Microsoft computer, but I'm hoping it can handle some vintage adventure games which I used to love to play with our kids, but didn't have a way to any more.

works great

I pulled my old receiver and disc player out of the attic and realized I no longer had a way to burn CD's since my pc didn't come with a CD burner/player so I got this. The thing can plug into a USB C or regular USB port, but I've only used the USB because those ports are easier to reach and I'm lazy. It made a cd that my 20+ year old CD player could play so I'm happy. I'll also use it to make backups of PDF files and images so I'll get my use out of it.

I have two complaints about it - first is there's absolutely no documentation with it; not even a quick start guide. There's a little card with a QR code you can scan to access the online manual. Its been a few days and I've lost the card, so there goes the manual. I don't really need it, because it is plug-and-play and Windows is easy to burn CD's with, but as a result, I'm not sure what the top USB port/card reader is for. Probably for loading info you want to burn, but if I'm hooking it up to a pc, I'll burn from the PC so they won't get used.

My second issue is the top lights up a bright blue, which is fine, my pc has internal lights so it doesn't bother me. However, if I leave it plugged in when the PC is off, those lights are still lit, and they flash/circle which isn't a big deal during the day, but at 3am its quite bright. It doesn't do it when I have it plugged into my laptop, so I assume that means the USB port in the PC is still powered up, while in the laptop it isn't, but its something to be aware of.

Some limitations from what I'd expected but works fine on laptop with 3rd party DVD software

It looked like it was going to be an easy plug and play. Unfortunately, I forgot Windows didn't have an included player anymore. But I did a quick search and got one recommended from a reliable site (free one). Quick install, and it immediately played. Picture of the screen from the software to show that there are a couple steps to playing, and then the screen from the movie with the dvd player in the picture to show that it's working. This is great. I haven't used it for burning/writing/ripping yet, but it works for movies. I'm sure it will work for the other things. The software has all the options included. Convenient little portable DVD player. Recommend.

A great addition to my Desktop PC.

I ordered this Unitek External CD DVD Drive, USB C Portable CD/DVD +/-RW Drive/DVD Player with SD Card Reader USB 3.0 USB C Hub CD ROM Burner Compatible with Laptop Desktop PC Windows, for my PC desktop. I needed an external drive, as my Alienware R13 desktop PC does not have one. I found this one to be the perfect choice. I liked the instructions (which you have to download from their website) easy to follow. I liked that I was able to use an USB extension cable to hook it up with a USB port in the rear of my PC, and it worked with no problems. I tested it with a music CD and a DVD movie, again the device worked as it should. I also tested the HUB and again my flash drives were all recognized, and everything worked. The only con that I can see, is that it has a series of Blue LED lights that flash when the device is connected to the PC, nothing is mentioned in the instructions about these lights, so I guess they just show that the device is powered on. There is no way to shut these lights off, so I needed to place the device away from my monitor, so they would not be distracting. Other than that, in my opinion, this is a great addition to my PC desktop.

A unique muti-featured burner with some caveats.

This unique drive includes two USB-A ports, a USB-C port, and an SD card slot. The set also includes a micro SD to SD adapter if needed. A micro-USB port and USB-A to micro-B cable are included if you require additional bus power to operate the drive and any devices or media attached to the accessory ports.

The connection cable is hardwired to the device and includes both USB-A and USB-C. The door includes a pinhole for a forced disc eject if needed.

On my tests, my Mac reported maximum bus speeds of 480mbps and USB 2.0-only connections. Thinking it could be a driver issue, I tried it on Windows 11, and like on the Mac, the free USB Device Tree Viewer utility reported the drive as a USB 2.0 device. Minus one star for the manufacturer's USB 3.0 claims. The accessory ports likewise would only connect as USB 2.0 / 480mbps.

The drive is set to Region 2 and may be changed four times maximum, so be prepared to change it if that matters to you for playing standard DVDs. Those hoping for region-free won't find it here.

I imported a CD, read a DVD-R burned on another drive, and burned a DVD-R, all without any problems.

The SD card and all USB ports worked. Note that the USB-C port is slightly recessed, so I struggled to find a cable or adapter with a thin enough connector to fit into the slot.

Eight animating blue LEDs on the top indicate that the drive is working. I find it a bit much, but you'll have no doubt that the drive is running.

Overall, it works if you can accept the USB 2.0 limitation, lack of region-free, and the annoying blue lights.

Plus and play

I wanted an external drive that connected via USB-C connection and this one does. I tested with both CDs and DVDs. Both MS Windows and Ubuntu Linux recognized this device right away, The USB hub feature is a bonus.

Compact cd

This is a handy utility device. I know most people have flash drives and USB thumb drives. Well this actually has a memory card reader built in. This is probably a good buy for data transfer. I think it's only blue ray playing and cd writing. Well the unit is compact and good to read those old CDs and other older software and archives. The drive works just plug and play. I haven't had any issues with it so far.
