It has all the bells and whistles... even the ones you didn't think of!

I have the original N4, so I was excited for the 4K upgrade that the N4 Pro S brings. I typically dread installing new hardware since they can often have a complicated setup, but I was delighted to find that the instructions were super clear for the N4 Pro S and setup was relatively painless. I appreciate that Vantrue seems to have really took into consideration the user experience, there were all of these little details that could be easily overlooked but made the install and usage extremely convenient:

- they included small hooks with adhesive for cable management. Normally I'm pretty terrible at cable management for my devices, but the N4 Pro S came with these hooks that made it super easy to position the power cable out of the way so that it doesn't block my view or is too much of an eyesore to look at. The instructions even had a recommended setup for keeping the cables out of view.

- they included an itermediary sticker that you mount the camera to, this way it's easier to reposition if needed and a lot easier to stick to the camera

- there is a mount for the camera so that you can slide and disconnect the camera if needed, while keeping the mount still adhered to the window - super convenient

I like the included rear camera, although the main draw for me is the interior and forward facing cameras, especially the night vision feature. My car has cameras (front, side, rear) but no interior cameras, so that's another plus for the N4 Pro S. My car's cameras also don't have night vision or audio recording, which the N4 Pro S does. And of course, my car's cameras are way out of league when it comes to resolution - the N4 Pro S runs leaps and bounds ahead with its 4K, everything looks crisp and visible compared to my car's blurry recordings, the angle is pretty wide too, so it captures the full field of view.

All in all a great dash cam, easy to use, and with the quality that I've come to expect from Vantrue, having been a customer for nearly a decade.

Worth its weight in gold in an accident!

Fortunately for me, I've never had to use this camera, but I'm happy to have it! My previous car was totaled in a hit and run a couple of years ago, and, while I'm glad at least no one was hurt, I didn't want to go through that again. With my brother's recommendation and after some research, I landed on Vantrue. While I haven't needed it yet, the video that these cameras capture as super clear, and I feel a bit more covered.

Installation wasn't too bad, took a short afternoon. I did struggle a bit because I had connected the rear camera to the port that is for the power. I didn't know what the problem was until I read through the manual again and rechecked the wiring. lol! Easy fix, at least! I do suggest making sure your cables can easily be plugged into and unplugged from your camera before deciding where to place it. I accidentally put mine too high, and it was hard to connect the cable at the top, because the car's panel was in the way.

The daytime and nighttime footage are both clear. You can download the videos by connecting the camera to your phone via wifi (yes, you have to be home and connect through wifi), then download the videos through the app. Or, you can take the micro SD card out and pull the videos from the SD card. This camera has several settings, depending on how you're pushing power to it, how much video you want to save, what the triggers are, what information you want to caputre, etc

The only minor negatives are possibly somewhat related and really not that bad.

One: the camera gets hot. Really Hot. Even in cold weather, the camera will get hot. This is only mitigated by lowering the amount of time the camera is on, which defeats the purpose for which I want it. I want it to capture everything, so I just have to deal with it getting super hot. Fortunately, it hasn't damaged the SD card or affected the quality of the videos in any way.

Second negative: The camera kept falling off the mount. It was a problem with the double-sided tape that comes with the camera. I would always find the camera hanging by the cables, which messed up a lot of my cable management, but it didn't fall to the ground. My fix was to use some double-sided gorilla tape to replace the OEM tape. Problem solved after that.

Overall, great camera. Its a bit pricey, but not compared to the money it can possibly save you if an accident happens. When my car was totaled, the insurance company gave me $10k on a car that was worth about $35k (KBB) and had under 20k miles on it. It added insult to injury. A little camera like this that captures license plates from the front or back is more than worth it.

100% recommend.

Such a great quality webcam for you vehicle. It’s clear, clean, and the UI is incredibly easy to work through. Used both cameras and was able to look at video footage easily. Very much worth the $400.

Vantrue product n4 pro gets too hot when operating

Guys, don't buy nexus n4 pro because it has a major heating issue to the point the adhesive of it pad comes off after a month. I did complain to their customer service and they started blaming the adhesive , then the climate temperature and then the setting. After I told them that I lived in san diego with a temperature not exceeding 27 degree Celsius. They came back and told me that i needed to park my car in shaded area which I was doing it. Anyway, I am going to report them to better business bureau because they did not want to do anything about their product. Please stay away from vantrue product and do not waste your money.

Excellent Footage, but I Had to Tape the Mount on This Exact Unit

This review is for the Vantrue N4 Pro S 3-channel dash cam, and this is the specific Vantrue unit shown in my photos and video. I am pointing that out because the mounting issue is not theoretical. The photos and video are not just general examples from a similar product. They show the actual kind of problem I had with this unit and the workaround I ended up using.

The short version is that the video quality is very good, the feature set is impressive, and the camera can do a lot of what Vantrue claims it can do. But the overall product experience is dragged down by poor documentation, a frustrating app/account system, repeated customer service failures, memory card errors, and a powered mount connection that I do not trust without tape.

This is a frustrating product to review because the camera itself is not junk. The N4 Pro S is a serious 3-channel dash cam. It gives you front, rear, and interior coverage, which is exactly what I wanted. The footage can look excellent, and the system has the kind of features people look for when they are trying to protect themselves on the road and while parked. If all you are asking is whether the camera can capture good video, the answer is yes.

The problem is that a dash cam is not just a video camera. It is a piece of evidence equipment. It is supposed to be there when something goes wrong. That means it has to be mounted securely, powered reliably, configured correctly, and supported by a company that can help when something does not work.

That is where Vantrue failed me.

The physical installation is manageable if you are doing a simple plug-in setup, but this kind of dash cam is clearly aimed at people who want more than a temporary cord hanging across the car. If you want parking mode, if you want clean wiring, or if you want the camera to work when the vehicle is off, then you are dealing with hardwiring, OBD power, fuse taps, vehicle battery behavior, and a lot of settings that actually matter.

That is not the kind of product where a company can get away with vague instructions. Unfortunately, Vantrue tries to.

The packaging for this unit did not include the kind of complete manual I would expect for a product with this many settings. The quick guide gets you started, but it does not adequately explain the practical consequences of the settings. Parking mode, sensitivity, HDR, Wi-Fi, app connection, card formatting, power behavior, and firmware updates all matter. Yet the customer is left to figure out too much by trial and error.

That is not just annoying. It can create real consequences. I used one of my Vantrue cameras with an OBD connection in an electric vehicle, and the car warned me about major external battery drain. That is not a minor detail. A dash cam with poorly understood parking or power settings can create a vehicle problem while supposedly protecting the vehicle.

A traditional gas vehicle owner could find out the hard way that the car will not start. An EV owner can get battery drain warnings. Either way, the customer should not have to guess what the camera is doing overnight because the manufacturer could not provide clear, practical documentation.

The missing manual issue became one of the most revealing parts of dealing with Vantrue. Customer service repeatedly told me to read the full manual included in the box. I repeatedly told them that there was no full manual in the box. I had multiple Vantrue models, and the same problem existed across them. There was quick start material, but not the full manual customer service kept insisting was included.

Eventually, after days of back and forth, Vantrue confirmed that I was right and that they had stopped including the manual.

That should not have taken a customer proving it to them. Corporate apparently changed the packaging, but did not make sure customer service knew. Even worse, the top customer service manager I dealt with in the United States apparently went about a year without realizing that the manual was no longer included. That means the person responsible for helping customers had not even received, opened, or inspected the affected products closely enough to know what customers were actually getting.

That is not a small mistake. It is a company showing that the people answering customer questions may not know what is in the box, may not know what changed, and may still blame or correct the customer until corporate finally confirms the customer was right.

The app/account problem was another mess. Vantrue allowed me to create an account on its website for the purpose of shopping and giving them money. But that website account was not the account needed for the Vantrue app. The app required a separate account, and that is the account I could not get Vantrue to create or approve.

Vantrue acknowledged that these systems were separate, but did not seem to grasp why a customer would find that inconvenient, confusing, or ridiculous.

That matters because the app is not just a toy. With a modern dash cam, the app is part of the product. It is how many customers expect to connect, change settings, transfer files, update firmware, and verify the system before they actually need footage. I wanted to test that process before I was standing next to a damaged vehicle or trying to preserve evidence after a collision. That seems like common sense.

Instead, I spent an absurd amount of time trying to get a basic account to work. I tried different devices. I tried different email addresses. I tried different networks. I had people in other places try. I tested the kinds of variables that would normally isolate whether the problem was my phone, my email provider, my internet connection, or their system.

Vantrue still kept producing explanations that pushed the blame away from itself.

Customer service did not solve the problem. What they did was repeatedly promise that technical support would contact me. That never happened. Not once did I get the kind of direct technical support they kept saying was coming. I was not refusing to troubleshoot. I have an electronics calibration and troubleshooting background from the U.S. Army, and I was willing to walk through the issue carefully with someone who understood the system.

But Vantrue never gave me that access.

Instead, I kept getting routed through customer service, where each interaction felt like another pass through the same script. I would answer questions, perform steps, report results, and then later get asked for the same information again. That is not technical support. That is a company wearing the customer down.

At one point, I was also asked to generate hidden app logs by tapping a secret area in the app several times. The resulting logs appeared in a language that was not the native language of my phone or my country. I was not given a clear explanation of what information was being collected, why it was needed, or how it would be protected. I do not think customers should have to hand over unexplained phone diagnostic data, in a language from a country where the central government demands access to customer accounts as a condition to remain in business, just to get basic help with a dash cam account.

The memory card issue was another problem. I received slow-card or write-speed errors using cards purchased to meet Vantrue’s own stated requirements. This was not one bad card. It happened with multiple new cards and multiple Vantrue cameras. The cards were formatted inside the camera using the camera’s own formatting function, and the camera still complained.

Eventually, I used computer software to fully overwrite and reformat the cards, which took a very long time. After that, I still have the occasional issue. That makes me question the camera’s own formatting process. If a dash cam tells you to buy certain cards, then creates errors after formatting those cards itself, the customer should not be blamed for that.

Storage reliability is especially important on this N4 Pro S because it is a 3-channel camera. It is recording front, rear, and interior video. That is a lot of data, and the camera is only useful if it can reliably write and preserve that footage. Great video quality means much less if the storage process is finicky or poorly explained.

The biggest physical design problem, and the reason my photos and video matter, is the mount. This camera uses a powered windshield mount. In theory, that is convenient because power goes through the mount and the camera slides into place. In practice, the connection does not inspire confidence.

The camera can disconnect from the mount too easily. A sharp bump, a jolt, a hit from behind, or the force of an actual collision could separate the camera from the powered mount. If that happens, the camera loses power right when you need it most.

That is the worst possible failure mode for a dash cam.

A dash cam is not there to record only smooth commutes and sunny drives. It is there to record the impact, the sudden stop, the hit-and-run, the parking lot bump, the dispute, or the moment nobody saw clearly. If the mount lets the camera disconnect at the moment of impact, then the design is working against the purpose of the product.

My workaround was to use black electrical tape to secure the camera to the mount. Again, the photos and video I am including are from this unit. That is why this particular review matters. I am not speculating about whether the mount could be better. I am showing the kind of fix I felt I had to make so that the camera would stay connected to its own powered mount.

That should not be necessary on a product in this price and feature category.

The mount also limits placement. Depending on the vehicle, the front lens can sit farther back from the windshield than I would prefer. If your vehicle has a sensor housing near the rearview mirror, that can interfere with the view. I have used other dash cams where the lens sat closer to the glass and had fewer issues with that kind of obstruction. A more adjustable mount would make this easier because vehicles do not all have the same windshield angle, mirror housing, or sensor layout.

That matters even more with a 3-channel system. You are not only aiming one camera. You are trying to get front, rear, and interior coverage positioned correctly. The mounting system should make that easier, not add another compromise.

So my final opinion is mixed, but not uncertain. The N4 Pro S can produce excellent footage. The front, rear, and interior coverage is useful. The feature list is strong. There is a good product somewhere inside this idea.

But the actual ownership experience was too frustrating for me to recommend it confidently. Vantrue gave me weak documentation, an app/account system that did not work properly, customer service that repeatedly promised technical support and failed to provide it, confusion over manuals that corporate apparently failed to communicate internally, memory card errors that required far more work than they should have, and a mount that I had to reinforce with electrical tape.

I am giving it two stars because the video quality and core camera concept deserve credit. But a dash cam has to be more than good footage. It has to be dependable when something goes wrong. It has to stay powered. It has to stay mounted. It has to write to the card correctly. It has to be understandable. And when those things fail, the company has to provide real support.

Based on my experience with this actual unit, Vantrue did not meet that standard.

Definite Improvement and Top Dashcam Contender

I was looking for a replacement dashcam for my E1 pro since I wanted more coverage for my vehicle, so I ended up testing a few, and the Vantrue N4 Pro S is easily one of the most impressive dashcams I've used to date. The 4K front camera is incredibly sharp and captures plates well under various conditions, and the interior and rear cameras also do a great job. Night footage is noticeably better than my previous dashcam and the others I tested, also having 5Ghz Wi-Fi, and not just the 2.5Ghz came in very handy when connecting to the device via the Vantrue app and downloading media. It's not the cheapest option, and installation takes a bit more effort because of the rear camera( that I’m still working on getting a clean install with hidden wires), but if you want great video quality and near full coverage reliably, it's worth giving a shot.

Save America

Very complicated

It’s not user-friendly if you are not really good setting up electronics I would not get this one. I wish out of all the different. It seems to work fine though.

I honestly wish I could do 4.5 stars...

I have Vantrue dash cams in a few cars (college kids) now. This one is quiet impressive, but let me tell you why the -.5 star first. It's BIG! I suppose it's all the tech packed inside, but this is one of the larger cams I have (see pic of N4 Pro beside Sonnet 1 Pro - wrapped in the plastic CPE bag).

This one went into a VW Passat. I have to say I love my German cars (except when they break), but due to all the "over engineering" and super tight tolerances this was the most time consuming install yet. It's going to depend completely on what kind of car you put this into. In my case, it wasn't as simple as pushing cables under trim with a trim tool (included). The trim had to come off to route the cables. Oh well, the finished product is excellent.

This kit came with everything needed except an SD card and a couple of wire ties. Honestly, that and a pair of wire cutters (for the wire ties) is all I needed tool wise that wasn't in the box. 2-3 hours is what it took (I didn't rush it) to install. Keep in mind the sun visors when placing the unit. The hardest part of the install (again because of trim) is always the rear camera.

This camera is loaded with features and you're definitely gonna want to load up the app. Configuration takes a little bit of effort, but you can be up and running quickly and then come back to fine tune everything over time. Lots of flexibility in the install and config like flipping camera images to account for how cameras are mounted in the car. Video quality is of course excellent. Love the voice control and other features such as impact recognition.

This is a fantastic dash cam, just be aware of the size thing when thinking about placement in your vehicle. Great performance and features. Yes it's expensive, but look at what you're getting for the money. Is it worth it? Well, depends on what your trying to protect - your family... at college... yeah it's worth it. 5 stars (4.5 really)!

Fixed* Stopped working after 5 months

Update:

The company reached out with some trouble shooting advice

It turns out I had a faulty hardwire kit, I replaced it, now it works fine.

For the price of this camera, I was hoping it lasted more than 5 months.

I used the Vantrue hardwire kit to install this camera and it worked fine for a couple of months. Then started to be constantly extremely hot to the touch.

Now after 5 months of use the camera hardly ever comes on.

I was extremely disappointed with this product, this coming from a user of the previous model, which worked for around 5 years.

This product is a big downgrade, quality wise.

Awesome Dash Cam!!! Easy and quick to setup recommend for all to consider.

Like what people noted here and on youtube this is a quick simple and easy dash cam to setup. We set it up in our Jeep Wrangler 2015 JK 4 door. Was able to run the wires through the car's dashboard and overhead molding. The features are right on point. I have uploaded a short video of a test drive around the neighborhood block and just showing the front camera video. The vendor has an app for your phones and has a player for your computer to work with and enhance the videos.

Stopped working after 2 months.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Bought one of these back in January. After two months it stopped working, screen would go black and be unresponsive. Tried all the recommended troubleshooting steps by the seller. No change. Got the run around by them refusing to exchange it due to being outside the 30 day return. Bought another thinking maybe i got a faulty camera….nope. Bought in april and now here in June the camera is doing the exact same thing the last one did. For an almost $400 camera to stop working after 2 months is unacceptable. Im willing to bet i am gonna get the same poor customer service i had last time it stopped working too. Save your money and buy a different brand!

Easy install

This is a very easy dash cam to install with very little experience.

The only issue I ran into with the install was the method I used. At first I tried to use a dongle to grab power from my rear view mirror but the camera would not stay on using that method.

I ended up using the included power line to go directly to the fuse box. With a little bit of experimentation I was able to find the proper port to install that in.

For the rear view camera. There was plenty of cable included. So even in a larger SUV I had enough to be able to feed through into the headliner all the way back for a very clean look.

It is easy to retrieve video and one other thing I like is that at any slight bump it takes a still shot.

So far it's worked well for me day or night and has not overheated.

One other thing I wanted to mention. When I was having difficulty getting it to work with the dongle, their customer service got back to me right away and helped me get through the issue.

New camera, new options, same great quality

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… There’s a reason I keep coming back to Vantrue cameras! The quality, support, options, updates, and design just keep getting better with each new camera brought to market. The N4Pro S is the latest camera I’ve installed in my vehicles, and it provides all the attributes listed above.

This N4 Pro S replaces the N4 Pro I purchased just under two years ago. That camera is still going strong, but it is going to my other kiddo’s vehicle so they can be protected with video evidence of any incident they are in. That made this a great time to upgrade.

The N4 Pro S adds some new options in the settings, including the ability to set the parking mode trigger. On the N4 Pro, anytime I was sitting still for a period of time the camera would go into parking mode. This was especially problematic when sitting in a drive-thru since there were times the camera wouldn’t restart after moving again. The new option to enable parking mode based upon the ACC input means that until I turn the key off, cutting the power to the ACC input, it shouldn’t enter parking mode.

PlatePix is a nice addition. I was worried when the instructions stated that the image might be darker when using this feature, but the quality is still very good and I can’t notice any darkening of the image during normal usage. Having a higher resolution rear camera means better quality for the video. I live in a state where front facing license plates aren’t required, but I can clearly see the vehicle make and model, so I assume picking up the front plate during an incident won’t be a problem either.

One of the best parts of this installation was the fact that most of the current setup could be reused. This meant I didn’t have to rerun wiring, making installation quick and easy. Since my cameras are permanent installs, I have the hard wired power supply and USB cables run through the body panels. I should note though that the new N4 Pro S will not match with the previous versions magnetic mount. This version has 8 pins on the mount, where the old version had 5 pins. This meant that I couldn’t reuse the suction mount I had, but since I do a lot less moving of cameras between vehicles mounting it with the sticker base wasn’t an issue.

In all, I find this well worth the cost and a very valuable upgrade when considering the undeniable proof that video evidence provides in a collision dispute. I would highly recommend this camera and this brand to anyone wanting a quality platform that just works. My only wish would be that they update their Falcon Motorcycle line a bit more regularly.

Customer Review

Reliable dash cam and clear footage.

The two front and rear cameras worked great for everyday driving; the pictures from both cameras were always clear and dependable, showing everything that happened on the road and while the car was parked. The interior camera works quite well, also. I didn't really worry too much about that because it seems kind of useful only for ride-sharing.

Overall, this dash cam works very well. Installation can be somewhat tricky. Plugging it in is straightforward; however, achieving a clean, seamless installation requires tucking the cables into the vehicle pillars. As a result, the process is more tedious than difficult. Since installation, the dash cam has functioned reliably. My previous dash cam frequently had significant gaps between recordings. So far, this model has not experienced any gaps or recording cutouts.

Excellent camera, not too hard to setup, but you need to buy an sd card

First off, if you're new to dash cams, like me, then give yourself plenty of time to install this, and don't just read the directions (they're minimal), watch the videos. That said, it's not all that hard to install, though it's slow (particularly getting the cables constrained. Also, make sure you have a lighter/electrical outlet. If you don't, there is a kit to attach it to the cables, also for use if you want it to work while the engine is off (not something I did as I own a manual transmission-modern theft protection). It does come with a small pry bar to help getting the wires into various hidden places. The included wires are quite long, so should be okay for larger vehicles. The camera itself seemed rather large to me, but I was very pleased with how easily it hides between my rear view mirror (note third photo of my rear view mirror and you can barely see the camera peeking out from behind the bottom left corner. The resulting image is quite good, and it's easy to switch between the different views. The main camera and the rear view camera are all quite adjustable. Do make sure that you allow sufficient clearance to slide the camera unit out of the "holster" that you attach to the window. I didn't and had to pop the insurance monitor I use off my windshield and move it. Once it's installed, it's easy to turn on, start recording, switch between views, etc. The one downside, the version I got does not come with an SD card (I think some some do come with the cards, and Vantrue does offer branded ones that promise to work with their cameras). Overall, it's a nice setup and pretty complete. I'd include video I used it to capture, but the sd card is still being shipped. However, I've seen other videos from this camera and they looked great. All told, it's a good camera, fairly easy to set up and works well.

Solid improvements over the N4 Pro

I have 6 cars in my houshold (several teens). These dashcams have already caught smash and grab criminals - caught and prosecuted, parking lot hit and run - caught and prosecuted, and even a speeding ticket stop for one of my children. That's priceless. No longer do we have a he said/she said situation. Vantrue shows the speed, GPS, and camera footage and captures full audio. Watching youtube videos when people get out their cell phones to deal with confrontation. no longer necessary, Vantrue has your back. I fully recommend getting the hardware kit. It makes the solution neater and work better for you without risking your car battery.

I've been running the N4 Pro for several years now, upgrading to the N4 Pro S. There's some significant improvements, mostly for the rear and interior cameras since all three cameras now use Sony STARVIS 2. This slightly increases the size in width of the N4ProS over the older N4Pro, but only noticeable if you compare them together. The vantrue phone app connects easily to the camera so that you don't have to configure it from the front buttons. It's possible to configure it without a phone, but the phone app makes it easier, especially when you are adjusting the camera view. Vantrue also has a desktop viewer application that will help you view all cameras syncronized with GPS and audio. That was useful when trying to review footage.

-- Original N4 Pro: 1080p rear, N4 Pro S (RC18): 2.5K (1440p) rear. This means an addition of platepix and better starvis 2 low light performance giving sharper rear footage, better detail capture for license plates, road signs, and events behind the vehicle.

-- Interior is also now upgraded to newer STARVIS 2 giving better low-light performance noticeable in the cabin (clearer faces/night IR mode)

Vantrue adjusted the image processing on the N4 Pro S based on user feedback to provide more balanced and natural-looking colors so that they are less oversaturated in both interior and exterior shots compared to the original N4 Pro. With the N4Pro S, theres now optional cellular support using an optional LTE module for live remote viewing. I don't currently have a need for this, but if for those who want this extra security, the new S models support it. I'm pretty sure the storage capacity increased to 1TB, but I'm still using 512GB effectively with 3 cameras.

My old N4 Pro was installed hardwired with Vantrue's hardwire kit in front of the rear view mirror. It had worked well in parking mode without draining my battery. The new N4 Pro S required me to change the mount, but I can still reuse the existing hardware kit. The rear always fell off of the plastic. Unfortunately with the moving window in my Highlander, I can't mount to the window. The 3M adhesive provided doesn't establish the bond required. I've tried to use E6000 and prop it in place to glue, but that also is not working. I will attempt to use some 3M automotive moulding adhesive next. It will likely work -- just ran out of it.

5/5 - they keep making these better. I wont ding them for my specific mounting adhesive. These are designed to be mounted on glass.

Would've liked a hotwire cable included for the price

This camera system isn’t too, too bad to install, but for $400 I would think that the cable to hardwire the camera in wouldn’t be an optional item, as well as the lens filter. That being said, this is a very nice camera system, and I would also add that if you’re not familiar with camera placement, and preparator work, I would suggest to read the manual, as there is only 9 pages, and it’s a pretty easy read, and you wouldn’t want the camera to fall of the windshield for the lack of preparation, I wouldn’t think. I say these things since I almost disregarded them, and in reading, found that would be a mistake. All in all, it is a very easy and straight forward installation. This camera does so much other than the recording as you will see in the manual, and it may seem daunting at first, it is not that bad, since you won’t use every option on a daily basis, but just having them available is a win, win situation. I love the quality of the camera, and I, after the install, wanted to get some video of it working, however, 17” of snow precludes me from pulling out of my rather long uphill driveway. When (and if) I can get plowed out, I will edit this review with the video I promised. I do recommend this camera as it is of high quality as stated before, and is packed with features.

Excellent 3-Channel Dash Cam with Crystal-Clear Footage!!!

This dash cam is hands down one of the best dash cams I’ve used. The front 4K video is incredibly sharp, and having three channels (front, interior, and rear) provides full coverage and peace of mind in every situation. Night vision performance is impressive, license plates and details are clear even in low light. The interior camera does a great job as well, making it perfect for rideshare drivers or anyone who wants added security inside the vehicle. I also appreciate the reliable parking mode, wide-angle coverage, and smooth loop recording. Setup was straightforward, the build quality feels premium, and the app/video playback is easy to use. If you want a top-tier dash cam with complete coverage and excellent video quality, the Vantrue N4 Pro S is absolutely worth it.

Basically the same as the current N4 Pro S with an inside-only rear camera

As someone who daily drives a S1 Pro Max (with the RC09 2.5k rear camera), this is a pretty similar experience (apart from the "driving safety" features that the S1 series gets but I have that turned off because it gets annoying pretty fast). The 1st thing to begin with, this is a comically large dashcam. I thought the 70mai T800 was comically large, the N4 Pro S feels even bigger in comparison. Interestingly the adhesive mount clips on to the actual dashcam via magnets, although I'm not too concerned about it falling apart from the dashcam unit itself. An additional benefit of this N4 Pro S compared to the S1 dashcams like my S1 Pro Max, is the adhesive mount is a separate piece from the USB-C power port, which means you can remove the entire dashcam from the adhesive mount, and still be able to plug-in and power your dashcam away from your car.

I don't see any significant difference in image quality between the RC09 that I already have and this RC18 rear camera, which is a good thing. Front camera quality is excellent as expected from an IMX678 sensor (I would post dashcam footage but somehow that flags reviews), you get really good image quality on license plates even with headlight glare (although it could be slightly better tuned compared to 70mai's IMX678-equipped dashcams and the front camera on the OMBAR T1, funnily enough I've found the nighttime license plate performance to be comparable only when PlatePix was enabled, which is not recommended for nighttime). The interior camera is, well, what you would expect. There is a shutter that activates when the environment gets dim (it also activates the IR emitters) so if there's a "click" sound, that's just the interior camera switching modes when the environment gets darker.

The controls are fine, and the app itself is good. Vantrue is one of the few major dashcam manufacturers that still lets you use the app without requiring you to sign up for an account, which is excellent to see. Mine did require 1 firmware update out-of-the-box but thankfully you can do that either via the app or by copying the firmware over via the SD card.

Since I'm using a hardwire I'll talk about parking mode along with my biggest criticism of this dashcam (or my criticism for all Vantrue dashcams because this one has similar issues). I am using a 70mai hardwire kit (which is compatible with Vantrue dashcams and vice versa) and I'm only using collision detection for the parking mode, set to "Power Saving" mode. I've found the power draw for some Vantrue dashcams to be pretty high if you're using "Quick Start" mode for the collision detection, but when it's on "Power Saving" it draws very little power. Now for my biggest criticism for this dashcam and all Vantrue dashcams, it's super sensitive when it comes to 1) collisions and 2) parking mode. A lot of times a larger-than-usual bump will cause collision mode to activate (and I live somewhere where the streets might as well be made out of cobblestone), but even if you dial down the parking mode sensitivity to the lowest, there's still a pretty high chance that even closing the door will cause parking mode to activate and start recording footage. It's not a major issue if you just remember to format your SD card every now and then but it can get annoying, thankfully this doesn't happen as much on this N4 Pro S as it does on my S1 Pro Max (possibly because of how the dashcam is mounted) but it still happens more than I would like.

In terms of price, this RC18 version isn't 100% released yet at the time of this review so I'll have to base the price off of the current available N4 Pro S. For $280 (w/ a 5% discount), this is definitely an expensive dashcam, but you do get a pretty good 3-camera dashcam with an IMX678 front sensor, a good rear camera, and an app that actually lets you use it without having to be logged in. However as someone who used to daily drive an OMBAR T1, that dashcam is far better in terms of value because it also has an IMX678 front camera for a fraction of this N4 Pro S's price. It's not a perfect dashcam especially from the price, but it's a very good one.

Premium Dash Cam with 3 Camera's

The Vantrue N4 ProS is a ultra-premium dash camera that delivers serious performance without being overly complicated. Despite packing three high-resolution cameras, installation is very manageable. The mounts are solid and the wiring is well thought out. Once plugged in, the setup through the app is straightforward, even adding the interior and rear cameras feels clean and intentional rather than cluttered.

Functionally, this camera really shines. The triple Starvis 2 sensors produce a really sharp, reliable footage in both day and night. It has the ability to switch to front and rear-focused mode, and rear-focused mode is a nice touch if you do not need cabin recording. In addition, the parking mode adds real peace of mind, and features like voice control, GPS, and fast Wi-Fi can make daily use simple instead of frustrating. Considering the image quality, storage support, night performance, and overall build quality of this dash cam offers strong value for the money. It feels like a real long-term investment.

Military-Grade Build With One Important SD Card Requirement

This dash cam looks and feels like true military-grade equipment. From the moment you take it out of the box, you can tell it’s built solid, heavy-duty, and meant to last. The design is sleek but rugged, the mount feels extremely secure, and once installed it looks very professional inside the vehicle. Video quality is excellent, very sharp and clear, and it gives a strong sense of reliability and protection while driving.

That said, there is one very important thing buyers need to know. This camera really only works properly with a Vantrue SD card. When I initially used a different brand SD card, the camera constantly acted up, trying to erase old footage to record new clips and causing recording issues. It was incredibly frustrating and led to wasted money on SD cards that simply would not work correctly. Once I switched to a Vantrue SD card, all of those problems completely disappeared and the camera has worked flawlessly since.

I honestly think Vantrue should make this much clearer in the product description to save customers from the headache and extra expense. The camera itself is outstanding, but the SD card compatibility issue is the only reason I’m giving this a 4-star review instead of 5. Other than that, this is a top-tier dash cam that feels built for serious use and long-term reliability.

The Vantrue N4 Pro S is essential driving equipment. You need this.

I recently purchased the Vantrue N4 Pro S 4K three channel dash cam as an upgrade to my seven year old Vantrue N2 Pro Uber Dual Dash Cam from 2018. While the old unit was still working perfectly, I felt the technology, resolution, and camera chip sets have all greatly improved in the past 7+ years. Also, the addition of hardwired rearview cameras in the newest high end dash cameras on the market convinced me it was time for a change. I’ve now had the N4 Pro S installed for about a month and here are my qualified observations of Vantrue‘s newest and greatest dash cam:

Unboxing. The unit comes in very nice packaging with a very detailed and thorough and readable owners manual, although personally, I never did anything more than scan through the manual. Typical male behavior. The main unit is compact, heavy and very solid with a rubber exterior. The primary camera is a very large 40 mm main frontward facing camera using a 4K Sony Starvis chip set. The rearward facing cabin camera is adjustable up and down and has a very wide field of view without distortion. The built-in IR night lighting also produces very clear videos of your passenger cabin. The main unit is secured into a windshield mount using 3M double-sided tape. Power is supplied through the beefy windshield mount unit. The remote rearview camera is very small measuring roughly 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” and can be mounted either externally near the license plate, etc. or internally, which is how I installed it. The rearview camera is water rated for outside placement. Everything is very high-quality and as I said earlier, I’ve been using Vantrue dash cams for about seven years now so I can attest to their quality and durability.

Be advised that the N4 Pro S comes with a cigarette lighter power plug as standard equipment with a USB C plug on the end that goes into the cigarette lighter so you can plug in your phone or other accessories. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DASH CAM DOES NOT COME WITH A MICRO SD CARD. Vantrue says you can use up to a 1TB microSD card but a smaller card is more than adequate.

Installation was very easy, basically involving hiding the wires along the top edge of the windshield and fishing them down to a power source along the passenger side A pillar. I did not buy the optional hardwire kit because I don’t have a need for the 24/7 parking monitoring which is built into the unit as my car resides in a garage. For the few times I am parked on the street or in a parking lot it’s easy for me to just turn this function on/off as needed. I found my old unit had an early version of this parking feature had a tendency to drain my battery, so I learned to pull the power plug if the car was going to be garaged for any length of time. The new N4 Pro S has a newer feature that prevents the battery from going below a user set minimum battery voltage to prevent dead batteries. As I live in Park City Utah, it can get pretty cold here and I don’t like risking having enough juice to start my van. If your car is going in parking lots for extended periods or spends overnights in lots or on-street parking, I would strongly suggest getting the hardwire kit and utilizing the parking monitor feature.

Vantrue sells a 40 mm adjustable polarizing lens filter for the main camera which can greatly reduce sun glare. So far, I haven’t found sun glare to be a problem and I live in a very sunny high mountain desert environment. If we ever get any snow, I may rethink the need for the lens filter.

The small form factor of the N4 Pro S allowed me to mount the main unit directly below the rearview mirror mount which gives it a clear interior view for the cabin camera and a centerline view of the road ahead. I usually set the camera to turn off the onboard monitor after 30 seconds to keep the camera from distracting me from the road.

Running the wire for the rear view camera in my 2015 Honda Odyssey was also pretty straightforward, running it between the trim and the headliner from the front passenger side A-pillar all the way to the rear tailgate pillar. I decided to mount the camera inside the rear window, which even with a limousine tint provides excellent resolution, clarity, brightness, and nighttime vision which is simply amazing due to the Sony Starvis chip sets. The rearview camera came with more than enough cable to run it to the rear of my minivan, but I would think that it has more than enough length for a Suburban or Expedition.

Setup. There are four function buttons on the bottom of the main camera unit which are easily identifiable by touch. All of the functions are very intuitive and set up took me about 10 minutes without ever needing to refer to the owners manual. There is also a large orange button on the left side of the main unit which is an emergency button which when pressed will archive the video that immediately proceeded the pressing of the button preserving accident footage if necessary. I have my camera set to five minute loop recording. I also prefer to disable the interior microphone as this could possibly be used against me in court if I’m ever accused of being at fault. If I was a professional driver or Uber/Lyft driver, I would think this would always be on.

The N4 Pro S has a neat new feature that uses an algorithm to identify license plates with exceptional clarity over previous units, even ones with 4K resolution. This can be key evidence if ever needed for a hit-and-run, etc..

As for the price, Vantrue markets the N4 Pro S for $380 but I found a discount which brought the price down to just under $300 including shipping. That makes the unit very cost competitive with other 3 channel dash cams IMO.

The Vantrue N4 Pro S is essential driving equipment in my opinion. You need this.

Overall solid dash cam

High quality dash cam with good specs. Rear camera with 2.5k resolution is a solid feature. Only issue is size of the unit, might be too big for some.

CHECK YOUR MICRO SD CARD COMPATIBILITY

You are forced to use their vantrue micro sd card or you will get a slow card message even if you use a top brand. since the last update a lot of user are getting this error message. So be aware of that.

UPDATE:

After trying three new micro SD cards, including the Vantrue, I ran speed tests and tested each one for a week in the camera. I always got a read error with the Samsung Pro Plus (THE BLUE ONE), but the following ones worked perfectly.

- Samsung PRO Plus Sonic The Hedgehog 256GB

- SanDisk 256GB Extreme

- Vantrue 256GB

The cards are listed in order of write/read speed.

The tech support is 5-star, they try their best to help, and they respond very quickly.

Aside from the micro SD compatibility issue, this is one of the best cameras I've tested in terms of reliability and image quality.
