Full-Time Videographer / Content Creator - This lens has been a gamechanger.

I had to come back and leave a review for this lens because it's changed my life. I'm a professional videographer, and I've been using a Sony ZV-E10 II for my work, but since it's an APS-C camera, a lot of times I need a much wider lens, Especially when it comes to my own content creation.

For $200, I can't believe how good this lens is. I use it for talking head videos, and people comment on how good the videos look. I just took it to a local coffee shop, and the owner was so impressed with the photos I was showing him.

I'm truly grateful to Viltrox for this lens because I use this thing all the time. I rotate between this one and a Tamron 17-70 mm. And my clients are very happy with the work.

This is one of the best $200 I've ever spent in my life.

Great Affordable Ultra-Wide Lens for Tight Spaces

I originally purchased the Viltrox 14mm F4 last minute for a real estate shoot because my 24-70mm wasn't wide enough for some of the interior spaces. It ended up being a great purchase.

At 14mm, I'm able to capture significantly more of a room while still getting images that look natural when composed properly. I've since used it for real estate photography, product shoots in tight spaces, wide establishing shots, and even filming workouts in my small garage gym.

Autofocus has worked well with my Sony camera, image quality has been impressive for the price, and the lens is compact enough that it's easy to keep in my camera bag.

If you're looking for an affordable ultra-wide Sony E-mount lens, especially for real estate, interiors, content creation, or situations where you can't move the camera farther back, this is an easy lens for me to recommend.

Great lens capable of beautiful photos, ok auto focus

I want to start out saying that this is an excellent lens for the money. This lens is capable of very sharp photo's with great color reproduction. That said I did find that the auto focus could be hit and miss especially in lower light conditions.

I went a head and did a replacement and just got the replacement today so I will definitely update this post if needed. Maybe the replacement lens will have better auto focus, or a firmware update will be available soon to address that but wen auto focus works its great. I actually love the lens. I will attach some photos taken with the original lens. The bokeh is OK, I've noticed that its scene specific. Using this lens on my Sony a6400.

Great lens

Needed a new lens for capturing video for YouTube. This lens is perfect for vlogging, and the photo capabilities are great. You don’t have to worry about not being in the frame. It also has a very short focusing distance. For a couple hundred bucks it’s very worth it

Mindcontrol

Good but the Chromatic Aberration stands out.

I like this lens a lot. I have the 1.2 version and also the new 90mm. If I had to choose between this and new 90mm I'd go with the 90mm. Notwithstanding, this is a very good lens. Even with the STM motor I found the focus to be fast and accurate even in backlit conditions. Frankly, I haven't had 1 bad Viltrox lens so I'm not surprised by the quality. The only minor issue I've had with some Viltrox lenses is the Chromatic Aberration as seeing on this image. The CA produces a greenish hue. It's really not that bad but it is the first thing that stood out to me when reviewing these photos. It's not bad enough to return it because the lens has so many other strengths. If you want the best, then get the heavier 1.2 version. If you want lightweight, great quality and smaller size then get this one.

Amazing lens, half the price

The absolute best lens I've ever used, it acts like a $2k lense, I will definitely be buying from viltrox again

Should Cost More

Amazing for landscape. Real estate. But really fun for portraits. Especially if you are doing cosplay/convention photography. Fisheye is very minimal and can easily be corrected post if it bothers you. F4 is not a deal breaker at all. And for the price it’s super sharp. It’s light. No weather sealing but that’s about the only trade off. If you like traveling with primes, this is worth taking with you.

Good wide lens for 200 bucks.

I. was surprised with little guy. a lot details on landscape photography, even with 12 year old Sony a6000.

Perfect for content creators! (IG: @only4bre TT: @bredigital)

This lens is worth the hype, I used it on my Sony ZV-E10 and the results were breathtaking. I film fashion, beauty, and skincare content on my instagram (@only4bre) & TikTok (@bredigital) and the quality is insane! The photos are absolutely incredible, I love the way it captures colors and when paired with my Ulanzi flash it’s truly an unstoppable force. Sometimes you can hear the hum of the autofocus but I don’t mind it too much, the lens is pretty lightweight but I wouldn’t consider it compact compared to the kit lens. Super easy to use and perfect if you don’t have much space when filming sit down videos because of the wide angle but it doesn’t have that fisheye effect either!

These are my Settings:

Insane for the price.

Insane wide angle. Going to be perfect for vlogging and getting those super wide shots. It amazes me how close you can get to the lens and it still be in focus. I should’ve gotten this lens first.

Bueno por el precio

El producto llegó antes de lo esperado, bien empacado, no tuve problemas al actualizar el firmware, lo vengo usando con una Sony a6400, sin problemas con el funcionamiento hasta la fecha.

Became my go to favorite lens!

I just got a sony zv-10 + kit lens and wanted to take some brighter pictures. As a novice photographer, I wasn't aiming for the clearest of clears. All I wanted was a lower aperture for brighter photos. I bought a couple of Viltrox's lens. 20, 35,85 as all the other lenses were out of my budget and my gosh... the price to performance is incredible. I've seen what a sigma and sony lens can do. It's very clear but is it worth 2x the price? For me, no. I highly recommend saving money and getting the viltrox.

I have constantly reached for the 85mm every time I went out. It has become my fav lens. I am very excited for the future of the EVO line up.

Very impressive, sharp with dreamy bokeh

This is my 4th viltrox lens and 1st of their pro level lenses. I have their 15 1.7, 56 1.7, 85 2.0 EVO, and recently purchased the 56 1.2 Pro to go with my Sony a6400.

The my cheaper viltrox 56 1.7 was good, but the bokeh was not as dreamy as what I’m used to coming from Nikon full frame 85mm lens. I was considering giving up on Sony crop body when I found video reviews of the viltrox 56 1.2 with comparisons to the sigma 56. In tests of sharpness, vignetting, chromatic aberration, the viltrox performed very well. The viltrox has excellent build quality and optical performance. Focus hunting was ok. Lens is very sharp at all distances. The bokeh is really why I bought this lens and it delivers. Built quality and weather sealing are very impressive. One interesting note: i was already warned in video reviews that there is a moving element within the lens that slides front to back when you tilt the lens. I don’t notice anything when I’m shooting, but when you’re holding the lens don’t worry if you feel it. Overall I’m impressed and happy with my purchase!

Updated review-After taking this out a few times, I rate it 'excellent' for quality and value!

I'm updating this bargain lens to five stars, now that I've taken more photographs with it. This wide angle for less than $200 is perfect for my needs. Eliminates me having to do multiple shots with a 28mm lens and stitch them together. You can see a little aberration at the edge. Plus with a protective filter it encroaches on the corners. But that is minor.

Update-12dec2025 - I finally took this lens out for a test run. I am amazed at how much more of the scenery I can capture in one shot, versus stitching two shots together when using my 28-70mm lens.

However, I've noticed three things, which are NOT a dealbreakers-

1. My camera's autofocus does not lock onto the subject as well, at night, regardless of the mode (center, zone or point focus). Sometimes it just won't lock on. I have to go into manual mode.

2. I noticed a dark area in the corners of the frame. Realized that because of its great wide angle, the rim of the protective filter that I immediately put on the lens, is what is obscuring that part of the picture frame. Which means I have to remove the filter, or I will have to crop a little bit.

3. As stated this lens is NOT weather seals, so I carry a protective cloth, which I keep covering the lens with when I am out in inclement weather.

Other than that, it is very lightweight and does a decent job. Here are a few shots I did with it today on a wet rainy day.

My main lens is a 28-70mm Sony. However, I have always having to stitch two images together to get the angle wide enough. This Viltrox at less than $200, was rated highway on you tube for its value. It is F4, so it is not meant to be great for indoor shots. But I will shoot outdoors today.

So far, I'm pretty satisfied with it for indoor shooting.

Viltrox 15mm, 85mm f2, 50 1.4 Pro

I purchased the viltrox 15mm 1.7, 85mm f2 FE, and 50 1.4 Pro FE.

Viltrox 15mm 1.7: Great lens, fantastic for the price, great quality! Sharp enough for my needs and lightweight. Great walk around wide lens and great for night time. Great for vlogging. I watched YouTube reviews on it which were favorable, I'm happy with my purchase.

Viltrox 85mm f2 EVO FE (photo of girl in skates)

Heavier with superior build quality than the 15 & 56. Decently sharp lens. Bokeh is nice and smooth. Autofocus is fast and silent. Great value for the price as is the same for all viltrox lenses.

Viltrox 50mm 1.4 Pro FE. (Boy in red shirt photos).

I upgraded my camera body from a6400 to a7vi so I needed a 50mm. WOW. Amazing build quality and weather sealing. At f1.4 with eye tracking my camera was nailing the focus. Mild vignetting, slightly prone to ghosting/flaring with strong backlighting, but the bokeh is very dreamy. Less than 1/2 the cost of the Sony 50 GM 1.4 it performs VERY well period. So far I’m very happy with my purchase, I think this will stay on my camera most of the time. Now I’m considering adding the viltrox 35mm LAB.

**Excellent Budget Lens with Minor Trade-offs** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars)

I picked up the VILTROX 25mm f1.7 for my Sony E-mount camera, and for under $200, it's been a solid addition to my kit.

**The Good:**

This lens punches well above its price point. When you have decent lighting, it produces sharp images with nice depth of field thanks to the f1.7 aperture. It's incredibly beginner-friendly – I had no issues figuring it out right away. The autofocus works reliably and speed is pretty decent, which is impressive at this price range. For anyone starting out in photography or looking for an affordable prime lens, this is a fantastic option.

**The Not-So-Good:**

The AF motor is audibly loud – you'll definitely hear the stepping motor hunting for focus, especially in quiet environments. This might be an issue if you're shooting video. Another thing to note: there's no manual focus ring on the lens itself. You'll need to adjust focus through your camera's menu/settings, which can be a bit inconvenient when you want quick manual control. Small and portable as well.

**Low Light Performance:**

In low-light situations, I haven't gotten the results I was hoping for, though I suspect this might be partially due to my camera body rather than just the lens. It's not terrible, but don't expect miracles in dimly lit conditions.

**Bottom Line:**

For the price, this lens is absolutely worth it. Yes, it has some limitations, but show me another sub-$200 autofocus lens that performs this well in good lighting. If you're a beginner or budget-conscious photographer looking for a solid prime lens to experiment with, I'd recommend giving the VILTROX 25mm f1.7 a shot.

**Recommended for:** Beginners, budget shooters, daylight/well-lit photography

**Not ideal for:** Video work (noisy AF), low-light situations, those who need manual focus ring

Another fantastic lens from viltrox. They are on a roll!

Much like the other recent viltrox lenses, this lens is another amazing addition to the viltrox lineup. I have owned several of the air series lenses and pro series from viltrox. They are all impressive and well made. This lens is sharp, fast to focus and the image quality is gorgeous from it. The size of it is amazing for an 85mm. I have also owned the sony 85mm 1.8. This lens is sharper to my eyes and is just perfect. I highly recommend this lens. I use it on my sony a7iv. It also tracks super fast. Very happy with my purchase. I have also included a photo of it next to my sony 55mm 1.8 zeiss for comparison

Good Lens for the Price

**Great Budget Lens for Versatile Use**

This lens has been an absolute game-changer for me, especially considering its budget-friendly price point. It’s lightweight, compact, and incredibly easy to carry around, making it a perfect choice for both work and personal use. Whether I’m shooting events, capturing travel videos, or just documenting everyday moments, this lens has delivered reliable performance every time.

One of the standout features is the fast and nearly silent autofocus motor. It’s quick enough to keep up with dynamic scenes, and the quiet operation is a real plus when recording video or shooting in environments where sound matters. I've used it for everything from quick snapshots at events to more planned-out video work, and it consistently provides sharp, clear results.

For anyone on a budget, this lens is definitely worth it. It punches well above its price, offering a solid range of capabilities without breaking the bank. While it might not have all the premium features of higher-end lenses, it more than holds its own for casual shooters, content creators, and even professionals who need a dependable secondary lens.

If you’re looking for an affordable yet capable lens for everyday photography and videography, this is a fantastic option that doesn’t compromise on quality.

Very Good for Low Light and Portraits, But Focusing Isn't As Good

This is quite a surprising lens. It's been optimized for it's best sharpness at the widest apertures. It's agreeably sharp even into the corners of the image at f/1.7 and reaches maximum sharpness at f/2.8. F/4 is about the same but I can already see some reduction in sharpness at f/5.6. After that it continues downhill.

The Achilles heel of the Viltrox 56mm is focusing. On my oldest Sony camera, a Nex-7 that still works well, I could rarely get focus at all. If you have an older APS-C Sony camera you'll want a good return policy from your seller just in case. But on my A7R IV it did much better. But it wouldn't be my choice for video work or action stills.

It's not weather sealed and didn't come with an end cap, just one for the front of the lens. No switches either. It does have a USB port for updates. Super light and agreeably small, it's at its best for low light shooting and portraiture.

Sharpness and contrast are very good for this price. Focusing could be a lot better overall, especially for older cameras, but with an 84mm full frame equivalent it should make for a satisfactory and inexpensive portrait lens.

THE BEST BRAND EVER.

Razor fast focus? Check. Sharp video and images? Check. A full frame price that is literally unbeatable? Check. As long as you stay out of the rain(Not weatherproof) you will literally never need a different brand. Lowlight and well-lit AF is great. This lens focuses 2X faster than my Sigma 24-70 Art Lens. I don't know why you would ever get any other brand except for the clout.. but honestly, Viltrox sounds cooler to say out loud than Sony😂😂 Viltrox, thank you. I will be buying all your FE lenses and some of your APSC lenses.
