The cameras do not have the screw for a bendy arm if you wanted to put it on your crib instead of screwing into the wall. The screen is laggy. The monitor kickstand is cheap and does not have levels. I purchased this for a split camera since my other is only compatible with one.

Do Not Buy (Please Read)

Awful. We purchased 1 set when our daughter was born in November and the monitor was defective after 3 months.

Returned had another set sent out in January now 9 months later same problems. For months now the monitor has only functioned while plugged in and now it looks like this as we turned it on today.

So in less then a year two sets of these have been burned through. Do not buy.

Connectivity is terrible, but the APP use is great!

If it weren’t for the camera view via the app, I would be very disappointed in this product.

I could not get the camera and parent unit to connect directly (without WiFi) and while connected to WiFi, the connectivity is terrible. We’ve not have any connectivity issues throughout our property with any other device. I believe due to the connectivity issues, the parent unit screen often goes in/out of focus causing the screen to go white for a brief period of time. I’ve also noticed a delay if I am in the basement right under her room. If baby cries the monitor is about a second or two behind.

Pros:

The view is very clear compared to our previous monitor.

The camera to app view works amazing!

Disappointed – Received a Different Version Than Expected

However, the unit I received does not support Wi-Fi. It only works through a direct RF connection between the parent unit and the cameras, which was very disappointing since Wi-Fi capability was one of the main reasons I chose this model.

I also noticed that this version is different from the original VM901 (single-camera version) that I purchased about two years ago. That model had a threaded mounting insert on the bottom of the parent unit, while this one does not, making it impossible to mount it the same way.

To make matters worse, after only about 6 months of actual use (9 months since purchase), the parent unit completely failed. It no longer displays the VTech startup logo and only shows a dark screen with horizontal and vertical lines, making the monitor unusable.

Overall, I’m very disappointed with the quality and consistency of this product. I expected much better durability and a product that matched the advertised features.

This monitor dies fast…

At the year mark, just past the warranty deadline the monitor started having a battery issue. It would only work if plugged in constantly. Additionally, there are so many connection issues. The screen goes blue and won’t connect to the camera, even when the camera is on and the unit is plugged in and the WiFi is strong. I would toggle the connection settings and sometimes it would pop on and sometimes not. I found that if I unplugged the cord from the camera EVERY time I used it, it would usually work, but not always. Sometimes I’d have to risk sneaking it to unplug it mid-nap. Also, it should be said — we keep our monitor nice & don’t let our baby (now toddler) play with it or really touch it. Even with that it has been so spotty & glitchy. Eventually I decided to rip into the monitor, even though after writing vtech support they say there isn’t anything that can be done & the monitor unit isn’t made to be opened. They just said to buy a new one (not going to buy another one of these, that’s for sure!) I found a YouTube video showing how to open the monitor up because of the same issues (with a butter knife wedged in on the sides to unclick 3 latches and a screwdriver). The cord hooking into the battery was loose — easy fix I thought. It worked for a month, then same issue. Also doesn’t fix the connectivity issue, only the battery issue. Every month I’ve got to open this monitor to make it be functional again. Also, the battery started swelling after about 2 years and so I had to unscrew some components from inside the monitor so that it’s not pressing on the puffy battery and the monitor will work (most of the time) that way. There’s a hole in the back of the monitor and no stand, but at least we can still make it work (picture). All in all, yes. We can watch our baby nap and sleep… at least in the time it takes for the monitor to run out of battery (20 min) he usually falls asleep. But this has been a major pain. We’re going to have to buy a new monitor for our second child, and next time we’re getting a nicer one for sure. This will limp you along for one kid though…

Screen went out after 2 months!

Bought this for my daughter’s new baby in march 2026. My daughter said it was great until the screen just went out today June 2,2026. She has never dropped it or any kind of damage to the monitor. She really depends on this monitor for my 18 month old granddaughter and my 2 month old granddaughter.

Good camera, but not happy with the open box “like new” item I received.

I purchased a second camera, because we do like this one. I purchased the open box, advertised as “like new.” It arrived in a nice box, but the screen was very scratched up and definitely was Not in like new condition. If you’re wanting a like new camera, just buy the new one.

Not great

I really wanted to like this camera as I have heard good things about the brand. The parent camera is nice and big, easy to use. It was also overall easy to install (the app and the monitor). However:

1. You aren't unable to set the time if you aren't connected to wifi. Small issue but it bothered me.

2. The resolution in the app is really bad and its loud. I could not keep it open. When I opened the app I went to my baby's room running as I thought there was a loud noise in her room, but no, its just like static on the camera.

3. The parent monitor makes a clicking sound the whole time its on. I thought it was doing that when following my baby but my baby wasnt moving and that setting was off. I moved it away from interference as much as possible, I rebooted. Nothing worked. I had to sleep with that clicking sound all night long.

Unfortunately I am returning this product.

Monitor blacks out.

This is the third monitor. First when I got the screen randomly blanked out. Then they sent me a replacement one and the screen was doing the same thing. Now I have a third replacement one and the screen started doing the same thing.

Connection issues

I just got this system with the two cameras last week. I am already having problems with connection. My daughter’s camera half the time won’t connect to the parent unit. Let alone either camera connecting in the app. For the amount of money spend on this it’s ridiculous that I’m already having issues. Should have just stuck with Motorola

I was Sent a bad monitor!

Right out of the box my monitor hasn’t held a charge once, I plugged it in right when I got it, hours later turned it on to use and kept it plugged in, any time I take it off the charger it has ZERO red battery and starts beeping; I literally can’t unplug it!

Great image quality

First impressions - this monitor is very good. The image is very clear and it was easy to set up and connect the wifi. I purchased a Motorola brand monitor and the image quality was trash. After searching for hours I decided to give this Vtech a try and wow. The image is so clear on the parent unit and on the app. Will report back if any issues arise too soon.

If you’re looking for an affordable, dependable baby monitor, the VTech is a great choice.

We’ve been using the VTech Baby Monitor Camera for a few years now, and overall, we’re really happy with it. The setup was very straightforward—just plug in the camera, pair it with the monitor, and it was ready to go. The video quality is clear enough during both day and night thanks to the automatic infrared night vision. Good picture and sound quality. The screen is bright and shows a clear image of the nursery. Two-way talk lets us soothe our baby without entering the room.

I would buy this vm901hd camera again ( and did)

I got an open box VTech vm901hd camera set. The picture is clear day or night. Sounds is great ! Was easy to use plug and play concept. Everything works like it should with the notifications with the cry or noise. I give the camera 5 stars but the missing part 3 stars.

The open box was missing the base ( bummer) to the camera and the monitor had some scuffes (monitor is fine with me with the scuffes). But I guess that is an open box problem with base missing.

MONITOR CHARGING PORT NEEDS WORK!

Pros:

- Decent quality when monitor and camera near each other.

- Can view from app on phone.

- Has temperature sensor.

- Has lullaby/white noise

Cons:

* MAIN ISSUSE IS CHARGING PORT ON MONITOR *

- I replaced it thinking it was a faulty monitor but replacement monitor has same issues

- Charger port for monitor is more fragile than a dry pasta noodle. Can not unplug/replug more than 3 times without it needing to be placed in a certain position to charge.

- Need to SHOVE the charger into monitor to get it to charge.

- Can not take monitor around with you due to sucky charging port.

- Once charging port is damaged it won’t charge correctly.

- Lullaby music is a bit faint.

- Playback video only goes back an hr from baby movement.

Connectivity issues

Camera worked fine for a year and a half but suddenly started having connection issues. The image goes away after a few minutes and the screen/parent unit can't connect to the baby unit/camera.

Both units are at the same place where they have been working for over a year. Wifi routers are at same place. Even tried moving them closer... i tried wifi mode, direct mode but nothing works.

I paired camera many times... i tried everything the blogs say... but camera keeps disconnecting.

This product is trash....

Not the same as it once was

First and foremost, I bought this product in June 2022 and loved it right away. The ability to add the camera to the baby app so I could be remotely was essentially what I purchased it for. However, the parent unit battery is garbage, it lasts maybe 2 hours at most and has only gotten worse over time.

I recently bought another one of these because you can add multiple cameras to the baby app. Although this seems to work flawlessly, the cameras are not the same. The first unit I purchased in 2022 has the ability to use various mounts if needed via the universal screw hole. The new unit purchased in 2024 does NOT support this. It does come with a wall mount that you can use, but it looks like the connection is proprietary and not one of the universal screw holes. I know it's a small inconvenience, but I feel like it's a standard feature that all cameras should have, and removing this was highly unnecessary.

Life changing

Love love love!! I have this mounted on the wall facing my babies bassinet. I love that I can take the monitor around the house with me without an issue. The monitor itself has a good battery life so it doesn’t have to constantly be plugged in. The camera turns 360 degrees so I’m able to see other parts of the room as well which gives me extra reassurance, it’s also good incase you need to place/ mount the camera at an awkward angle. My husband is able to check in and see the baby while he’s at work with the option to have the monitor linked to his cellphone. So convenient and easy to use, really gives you a peace of mind.

Best quality baby cam for the price!

Easy to install/use, inexpensive, good range, good night vision, good video/sound quality, good zooming capability, good sound/movement alert, good app conectivity, long product life (4 years before I had to replace it) and you can have multiple baby cams in one monitor! The only downside is the often connectivity interruptions, but I suspect is due to router/modem issues, not the monitor.

To add an additional unit:

Open the menu then quickly hit "left, left, right, right, talk." It will pop up a menu to add or delete a camera. Once added, you can split screen or auto-scroll between the feeds.

Almost perfect

Ok let me start with the cons since that what everybody really wants to know.

#1 The temperature is NEVER accurate. This may seem trivial, but the temperature gauge is off by A LOT! Being a first time mama with a baby born in December, waking up and seeing that your baby’s room is 39F is ALARMING! After purchasing a separate temperature/humidity gauge I stopped paying attention to what was displayed on the monitor.

#2 the phone compatibility is only accessible from one mobile phone at a time. So my husband and I were constantly battling for who had access. If one of us was out of the house and happened to be “kicked off” there was no way to reconnect until you are home again and can scan the QR Code on the monitor. That’s frustrating!

The PROS! The camera has great quality, the color during day is perfect and the clarity at night is awesome. Being able to take photos and videos is a bonus, I love looking back at her memories from a year ago.

The range of motion for the camera is excellent as well.

The battery life on the monitor is great, which makes carrying it around the house convenient.

The features for music or white noise might as well not exist tho. It’s very quiet, as is the “talk” feature. Whatever speaker is on the monitor is tiny and gives hardly any sound.

Overall I’ll hall with the purchase and would recommend it to any new parent!

Not worth it for how expensive it is!

Extremely disappointed with this camera especially when it’s so expensive. My 49 dollars Wyze camera works better than this.

1. Terrible vision both day and night.

2. You can only see past events from an hour ago, anything past that the videos don’t load anymore.

3. The app does not have enough tools to help you fix problems.

This camera is not worth it! Not worth it at all. A 20 dollars camera could work better than this.

Stopped working after 6 months

N.B: The product and it's features I rate 4 stars, the 1 start is because it stopped working and I can't get any product support from the manufacturer.

On receiving it was well packaged with all components. It started was officially commissioned for full time use on Feb of this year just before the baby arrived. On using one of the days the camera just went offline however it is still on, it is not connecting to the wifi or the parent unit. The parent unit connects to wifi but not the camera unit. The camera indicator light is stuck at a steady orange. I have tried to reach out to the manufacturer through the contact form on their website with no success. Overall the product is good with awesome usable features but I am stuck with an unservicable product just when the baby has start to sleep in their own room and the parents are going back to work.

Decent but connectivity unreliable

Overall this is a decent unit and it works better than the Nanit did for me, but I still would not feel comfortable with it as my only monitor due to the connectivity issues I've experienced. The parent unit is supposed to switch automatically between wifi and direct connections to the camera. This is great in theory, but in reality it takes at least 10 minutes for it to make that switch, during which you have zero monitoring of your baby. It frequently loses connection on wifi or breifly buffers, but the more disappointing connection is the direct communication. My bedroom shares a wall with the nursery, but sometimes it still can't connect. See picture of me standing in the doorway of the nursery with the camera circled in the background and the parent unit saying it's unable to connect. I don't need a monitor if I have to stand by the crib to connect! All that being said, when the unit is actually connected, it's a decent monitor with good picture and handy pan, tilt, and zoom controls. The talk function also works well and voices come through clearly. And I like having both a parent unit and the smart/app connectivity. I just wish it had more reliable connections, especially on the direct communication mode!

Bought a second one!

Bought this camera before my son was born. Loved it. It suits our needs. But now that he’s bigger and has to be on different rooms in the house, i dont want to move the camera all the time so we decided to look for maybe a cheaper one. We tried FIVE different cameras. Again this is based on our needs, i need clear and a wide angle. I tried 3 different brands and 2 vtech but different models. I returned all! And just bought this one again. And then followed the reviews on how to add a camera in my old parent unit. And it worked! We love it!

Great baby monitor for multiple rooms

This is exactly what I was looking for: a baby monitor with cameras, a parent unit with split screen capabilities, and wifi access on a smart phone. The only downside is i had to buy 2 whole units because they don't sell the camera alone. Oh well. It was still cheaper than the other options(which all had a lot of negative reviews) and I get a bonus parent unit if i ever need it.

FIX connection issues!!!

***Update*** I changed to 3 stars. I do really like this baby monitor and the updated Pro app records motion clips which the previous app did not (or if it did I never saw it). I changed to 3 stars not just because of the app upgrade but also because I'm able to connect seamlessly to the app and the baby monitor now. I added a plug in wifi extender in my son's room. I figure this is inconvenient for most parents but we happened to have the "tp-link" already which is about $30 at Target or Best Buy. We gave it a try and boom, no more connection issues. So my recommendation is bring your wifi router closer to the room or buy a wifi extender, I added a picture of the one we have. Hope this helps some folks out there.

(1 star review) The app stopped connecting to the camera. It worked fine for a year now all of a sudden there are always connection issues. I emailed vtech support and they gave me instructions to reset but I'm still having connection issues. Very frustrating. The parent unit connects most of the time something doesn't connect right away. I even tried taking off the wifi so it can just direct connect to the camera but still doesn't connect.

Perfect monitor if it could keep from dropping the connection

I really wanted to keep this monitor, but after a few weeks of use, I'll be returning it for one simple reason: it's not 100% reliable. I like it more than my old Motorola monitor in every way except for the fact that the Motorola doesn't ever drop the connection. I tried everything (direct mode, router/auto mode, reset WiFi, etc), but the connection would still drop out for a few minutes every day. Unfortunately, it would often happen in the dead of night, and I don't need another thing waking me up in the middle of the night, beeping at me. It's not a WiFi strength or distance issue; it's a connection reliability issue. I thought having the dual-mode option would allow it to seamlessly fall back, but it takes 1-2 minutes and beeps at me. If they would have just built the direct connection mode with RF (at lower resolution) instead of direct WiFi, this would be perfect for me.

Pros:

- User interface and menus are intuitive. Great balance of buttons for easy access, with lots of features accessible in menus

- Resolution and picture quality are excellent. Zooming in provides good detail. My pictures don't do it justice; it's very sharp in comparison to my old monitor

- Wide angle lens shows almost the entire room

- Audio: Configurable sensitivity is great, and this isn't constantly playing the white noise like my old monitor

- Alerts and auto-wake for for sound, motion, and temperature work well

- Battery life is good, and REPLACEABLE. You can't use it all day or night, but a few hours without the charger is no problem. I found that it could last about 6 hours with little screen usage

- App works well and connects quickly

Cons:

- Occasional momentary connection loss in any mode. Interestingly, I could connect to the camera with my phone app while the monitor was having trouble.

- Can't access full 1080p resolution on the app while the monitor is on; the app is limited to 720p in this case. Not a deal breaker, but feels a little like false advertising

I really like the features of this monitor, but will exchange it for a more reliable RF monitor and add an inexpensive Wyze WiFi cam for HD video and remote access.

Baby monitor with both WiFi and Direct RF connectivity!

When shopping for a baby monitor, there seem to be two categories: WiFi connected and non-WiFi RF (radio frequency) monitors. There are arguments for each category: safety, speed, video/audio quality, "smart" features, and range of signal. The list goes on. In my search, I have found that it is exceedingly rare to have a single monitor that supports both WiFi and non-WiFi RF access. However, this monitor does just that and for that reason alone, it is well worth it.

In regards to quality, it is a full 1080p capable camera. When using the supplied 5" LCD display, you get 720p video. However, when using a mobile device (smart phone or tablet), you may receive 1080p. The difference is very obvious when switching between the supplied monitor and your mobile device. (Keep in mind that 1080p is not enabled by default. You must enable that through settings).

The night vision is very clear and not fuzzy. The range of motion on the camera is very good: 260 degree rotation. The zoom features allow 1x and 2x zoom, which we use regularly when we place our infant in her crib and step away. It provides very fine detail. The app allows even further digital zoom (up to 5x) although video quality is then lost.

The camera does have a motion and sound sensor that works relatively well. However, the temperature sensor seems to be unreliable and reports higher temperature than other sensors we have in the room. I suspect this is due to the device itself getting hot.

The instructions that come with this monitor recommend downloading the MyVTech Baby 1080p app. While this app does the bare minimum, the user interface is clunky and slow. Oddly enough, there is a second app that the instructions do not mention "MyVTech Baby Pro". While this is called "Pro", it is a free app and works perfectly with this device. The user interface and experience with this app is far superior and provides much better access to settings/configurations as well as recording/saving photos and video footage from the camera.

In terms of connectivity and range, on Direct/non WiFi/RF mode, the range is fairly limited. Moving from our bedroom to the living room, often times we will lose signal (no more than 50 - 100 feet away). However, on WiFi mode, we get strong signal on the monitor and have only lost signal twice in the last 2 months.

I do wish the device would interact with smart phone devices (Google, Alexa). It would be very convenient to be able to view the footage on my Echo Show -- I know the Nanit can do that. With this device being WiFi enabled, I'm not sure why Vtech hasn't invested the developers into making that happen.

My only other complaint is that the monitor has fairly poor battery life, although we generally keep it plugged in, in our living room. One poor design flaw is that when you turn off the monitor and plug it is, it automatically turns it on. So you must first plug the device in, wait for it to recognize and then turn it off. Seems like this could have been done better.

Overall, it is a great device and does what it promises and more. I am very happy we went with the WiFi/RF hybrid as we get the best of both worlds. While it is missing some of the smart features of products like that Nanit, that's okay -- that money can be invested in other necessary products.
