Wolfbox dash cam

Uses a lot of power if left on. Had to manually unplug the unit. It would restart on its own. Unit Eventually heated up and warped and then stopped working after two years. Good visibility and fit the rear view mirror well.

Works great on Volvo S60.

Great Dashcam and Backup Camera. Paid $600 to have my mechanic hardwire it and mount rear camera and gps on 2013 Volvo S60. Order the Wolfbox hardwire kit.

Wolfbox G840S Install on 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat Hybrid

I purchased the unit because the factory mirror is small and the 12” display was a perfect choice. I only wanted the rearview, but having the front camera is good to have just in case. After positioning the display, gps, and rear camera where it was best, the rest went as planned while having a little patience. I took pictures that have a red line indicating the cable path for power, gps, and rear camera. I did not want continuous recording when the car was parked so I used the hardwire kit and connected to the fuse #3. The rear camera cable went out the 3rd brake light easily, again with patience. I am pleased with the purchase and the first couple days using it. I think you will also.

Great Dash Cam Without the Extra Windshield Attachment! 🚗🙌🏽

After experiencing a rear-end hit-and-run, I knew it was time to invest in dash cams. You just never know what can happen out on the road, and I want to have that extra peace of mind in case something happens again. You live and you learn! 😩

One of my favorite things about this dash cam is that it attaches directly to your rearview mirror using plastic bands. No separate attachment stuck to the windshield, which is a HUGE plus for me because I’m a frequent windshield sunshade user! 😂 With my old dash cam, I had to detach it from the windshield every time I wanted to put up my sunshade. Now I don’t have to deal with all that extra hassle! 🙌🏽

The screen allows you to adjust the view up and down, and the camera has a wide-angle view. The USB cord is also nice and long, giving you more than enough length to tuck the wiring away for a cleaner look.

Now, let me tell y’all about the installation! 😭😂 I honestly thought it would be easier than it was. I ended up watching a few YouTube videos to make sure I was doing everything correctly and wouldn’t damage my vehicle. If you own a German car, you already know those panels are TIGHT! 😩 My shoulders were sore by the time I finished, but I was determined to install it myself without paying anyone else to do it. And guess what? I got it done! 😌💪🏽

Overall, I love the convenience of the rearview mirror design, especially since I use my windshield sunshade so often. After what happened to me, having cameras is worth the extra peace of mind. Just be prepared to take your time with the wiring and installation, especially if you drive a German vehicle. A few YouTube tutorials and some patience go a long way! ❤️🚘

Glue beads breaking free after less than 2 years of living in a garage.

Great product but the glue on the screen is failing after a year and a half. The mirror never moves and while it is in a soft-top jeep the top is never down and it stays garaged at home and at work. It spends 99% of its time under a roof. We will see how it goes moving forward but I’m concerned about its performance once this air barrier breaks. There is about 1mm of glue keeping the electrical components safe as of 10/1/26. That just what I can see.

Clips on the front of the rearview mirror.

We only wanted the front camera to be installed. I was mistaken in thinking it sat (or clipped) to the back side of the rearview mirror. It snaps onto the rearview mirror and is constantly playing what’s ahead of you. It was more of a distraction for me, especially at night. You have little to no use of the actual mirror and seeing behind you.

The photo quality is 10/10!

Works good besides formatting

Easy to install, and love how has the back and front view at same time. Would give it 5 stars but every time it powers on it makes you reformat the SD card. Not big deal still works as it should just won't record till you reformat the SD card.

10/10 recommend

Incredible Quality for the price point. I go off road a lot and was not expecting the front camera to be of value. (Mainly wanted the camera in the rear for when my trunk is full and I can’t use the rear view mirror). But the night view on it actually made the trails so easy to see! And obtaining the video recordings through the app is super simple. Absolutely recommend!

Slow to start up but works well

I gave it only four stars because it’s slow to start up when I start the vehicle. Otherwise it is as expected and their support was instant so if I could go 4.5 stars I would.

Great upgrade for daily driving and rideshare

This is my second WOLFBOX mirror dash cam, with the first one serving me well in my minivan and now this one in my Tesla Model Y. The installation was straightforward, the video quality is sharp, and the digital rear mirror provides a much wider, unobstructed view than a traditional mirror, especially when the back seats are occupied.

As an Uber driver, I find that having clear front and rear recordings gives me peace of mind. If an incident ever happens, having high-quality footage of what actually occurred is incredibly valuable. The touchscreen is responsive, the GPS works well, and the companion app makes it easy to review clips without pulling the memory card.

After using two different WOLFBOX models in two different vehicles, I've had consistently good results. If you're considering upgrading from a standard mirror or adding a dash cam, this is a feature-rich option that's been well worth it for me.

Great pick

Easy to set up, personally I am only using the front camera, it establishes a wifi connection ONLY to connect to the app, autorecords on car start (2019 honda accord sport) and very easy to clear out space on the sd card.

Pleasingly surprised by the daytime video clarity

Updating this review. We hadn’t driven at night but recently drove and the camera is great at night. I attached a picture but the video wouldn’t upload. The mirror provides a nice wide angle view and is better than an actual mirror. I had a couple issues the wire that is provided with the kit was too short. I read that Wolfbox works with you and may provide the correct cable for free. The other issue I had was after the second trip the mirror went black. It wound up being the power wire with the fuse that came in the kit was faulty. I used the other one with the same size fuse and the monitor came back to life. Still extremely happy with this mirror camera.

I bought this for a 2016 Gulfstream BT Cruiser 5210. I also purchased the hardware kit and a 16.5 foot 4 pin extension wire. The mirror (monitor) was easy to install with the rubber straps provided. I was able to fish the wire into the RV compartment through the freshwater tank compartment, under the kitchen sink and shower up into the bathroom vanity into the medicine cabinet and out the back wall. Installation was super easy the only time consuming part was fishing the wire. The rear camera removes all of the blind spots and displays a wide field of vision of what's behind you. Haven't yet driven at night so not sure what the video quality at night is yet. Super happy with this purchase. If there is one thing that didn.t fit great it would be the fuse adapter in the hardware kit. The fuse holder causes the fuse to protrude higher than normal which caused the fuse cover to not fit. I had to modify the cover to snap it back into place.

Dash cam with improved security/safety!

To be honest, I’ve purchased too many of these in the last three years. Every vehicle I will have will always have one of these wolf box dash cams on it. I put 5% Limo tent all around each vehicle I drive and this makes driving at night a breeze. This gives a much wider aspect ratio when driving which creates less blind spots as well. It’s also a safety measure in case you get into any accidents and need supporting evidence which I unfortunately needed recently. Every vehicle, my family owns will have one of these installed. They are easy to install provide safety and security for the family. On the previous versions, I had issues with cars that were parked out in the sun in the Texas heat The mirror would stop working, but on the last few I purchase there hasn’t been any issues over the last couple years. For peace of mind, you may want to purchase the extended warranty, but either way it is a great value!

The Dash Cam That Knows When to Shut Up

I recently picked up this dash cam, and it’s honestly one of the best purchases I’ve made for my car. The recording quality is excellent — crystal clear footage both day and night, with sharp details on license plates, road signs, and everything else that matters. I’ve already reviewed a couple of clips, and the video is so good I didn’t even need to zoom in.

What I love most is that it keeps recording perfectly even when the display is completely off. That means I can leave the screen black and still use my rear-view mirror without any glare or distraction. It’s a simple feature, but it makes a huge difference in real-world driving.

Setup was straightforward, it does exactly what it promises (no surprises, no gimmicks), and the build quality feels solid for the price. For what I paid, this thing is an absolute steal — way better than some of the more expensive models I looked at.

If you’re looking for a reliable, no-fuss dash cam that delivers great video without hogging your mirror view, this is the one. Highly recommend!

Definitely recommend. Had to buy the hard wire and mirror kits, but it looks awesome. Tucked wires in headliners. On the front right passenger side, tucked under door seal on inside and then removed several plastic trim pieces to get under dash. Factory fuse box lid won’t shut with fuse taps, so left off. I don’t plan on going through deep water anyway

**update** A company who cares

I really wanted to like this product, but unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. Installation was incredibly easy, but that ended up being the only positive part of the experience.

The rearview camera is extremely difficult to see. During the day, the glare is so intense that the video becomes almost unreadable. The only time the display is remotely usable is when it’s overcast. On a sunny day, don’t expect to see anything. Adjusting the screen brightness doesn't help. Nighttime performance is even worse—the image is grainy, and the only thing clearly visible are headlights. On top of that, the video frequently jitters, as if the frame rate can’t keep up.

There’s also a noticeable delay between real-time movement and what appears on the screen. If I wave my hand in front of the camera, it takes about half a second to show up on the display. That may not sound like much, but in a driving situation, half a second can be the difference between avoiding an accident and causing one.

As much as I wanted to like this product, the grainy nighttime image quality and severe daytime glare make it hard to rely on. Until these issues are addressed, I’ll need to look for a better option.

**Updated Review**

I spoke with the company and they suggested a different model. The person I worked with was so helpful and insightful. Their customer service is top notch and it's hard to find a company that still does that. They were able to provide me with a solution that meets my expectations. They truly care about their customer and take pride in their product. This alone, is why I decided to stay with the brand. And updated my rating to a 5 star.

Kudos to them for being so amazing.

Worth every penny

I have this wolfbox system in 3 of my vehicles. So glad that I do. I had an accident in January that totaled my car. The camera saved me $10,000 in shared liability, because the video showed I had the green light.

It is easy to install and to hide the wires.

Buy the hardwire power unit so it turns on and of with the ignition. It plugs right into the fuse box. I also suggest a larger Micro SD card. I use a 128gig.

I have tried other brands but wolfbox works great and is my choice.

In the past I have mounted the rear camera outside, but the mounting screws rusted out, the camera also failed. Currently I mounted it inside, this way the camera lense stays clean and with the rear wiper keeps the view clear. But not so good at night. You have to purchase an adapter mount to mount it on the inside of the rear window, but worth it.

So happy I can see out the back of my Jeep

So now that I’ve been living with this thing for a few weeks I feel like I can write an informed review.

First the general stuff: I installed it in my 2016 JKU Wrangler entirely because of the crap rear visibility. That this is also a dash cam and gps speedo is just icing on the cake. Seriously, if you’re considering it, just do it. You will not be disappointed. The cameras themselves are great. Daytime and nighttime visibility is far superior to my old mirror. When the display is turned off, it still works pretty well as a mirror, too. I find that most of the time I can even focus on the reflection and the display separately, even when it’s powered on. Kind of like looking at one of those magic painting things if that makes any sense. My only tiny complaint is that the USBC power cable angles to the left and I didn’t like the look of that so I bought a separate USBC cable that angles toward the windshield instead. But that’s not nearly enough to knock off a star on such a wonderful product.

Now for the Jeep specific stuff.

1. I watched some YouTube install videos that said the camera cable is slightly too short when installing this in a four door wrangler. This is true if you route the cable across the windshield, down the A pillar, and through the floor trim, as is the generally accepted way to go about it. I went across the windshield and followed the roll bar back instead. It’s a bit of work to run all that cable under the roll bar padding, but it’s totally worth it. No issues with cable length. Actually had about 3’ left over.

2. The GPS antenna cable is exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) long enough to go across the windshield, down the A pillar, and back to the center of the dash, where there is a perfectly sized flat bit (if yours doesn’t have the light sensor like mine doesn’t) right behind the dash tray to stick said antenna to.

3. Take the time to remove the top windshield trim and A pillar trim completely. This requires removing the sun visors, but it makes running the three cables much easier. Also consider putting a small notch in the windshield trim. Looks much nicer than having it bent out a bit.

4. I also recommend the windshield mount instead of strapping it to the existing mirror. Much better looking and it’s only another $20, so why not? It’s quite sturdy, too.

5.

With the extras I think I’m in for a total of $150ish and I think it’s probably the best upgrade I’ve done to this wrangler. Kinda wish I’d done this to my previous wranglers as well.

UPDATED - After a few days, the screen started flickering in the device would randomly reset.

UPDATE IS AFTER INITAL REVIEW. I will start off by saying that this device is a wonderful addition. Outside of a couple of quirks, this is something everyone should consider, especially if you have a older vehicle. This rear view camera/ recorder is great just by the feature of a high quality backup camera. Additionally, front and rear recording is an excellent feature to have as well as a shock sensor to start recording when you are parked.

That aside, mine gave me problems within just a few days of using it. (I included a video, but most of the time it gets really bad, I'm on the interstate). I noticed that it would start randomly flickering and then become worse and worse until the device restarted. This would be a continuous cycle until the vehicle shuts off. Even if I turned off the display, it would randomly turn back on and start flickering. I did contact Wolfbox customer service in which they did seem professional. I feel that this does not help any type of research and development. Hopefully my issue was isolated.

As far as any other downsides that I could share, the mirror itself is quite dark in comparison to a regular rear view mirror. One can get used to it, but don't expect it to be the same lightness and clarity. The other thing to consider is that if you attach the gps, rear camera, and power, there will be three plugs sticking out the top of this mirror with individual wires. Since these are offset from center and individual, it makes for a messy look. I feel that in a future it would be nice to have a proprietary cable that reduces this unsightly clutter.

UPDATE:

The seller and Wolfbox reached out to me and resolved the issue. They sent me another unit which has been working great! I can definitely suggest that you choose Wolfbox for a great rearview mirror camera system!

Rear View Restored!!

I purchased this Wolfbox G840S 12" dashcam unit for my Porsche Macan. I also purchased the Wolfbox hardwire kit, which I highly recommend. Not only does the kit make the dashcam work seemlessly with your vehicle's power, you also gain the ability to have 12 or 24 hour parking monitoring when you use it, too. I watched a few videos online to determine what vehicle fuses to use for the system and it worked perfectly.

The one issue I had with this dashcam was the three wire jacks are on the top of the unit, and they didn't allow my OEM mirror to be set to its original position where I could see out the rear window with the power off. This was because the top of the jacks were hitting the plastic trim piece above them. I bought a 90degree adapter for the USB power cable, but the other two jacks were still too tall. So I placed a strip of insulation foam on the back of the unit at the bottom, between the unit and the OEM mirror, thus, angling the unit up slightly and to its correct position. Problem solved.

The features in the dashcam are really nice and easy to use. I keep mine set on the rearview only, because the view is much better than I can see using the stock mirror, especially when my 70lbs german shepherd is riding with me in the back seat. All I could see in my rearview mirror is dog! I love that the unit automatically records when you turn the car on, and you can see the red recording icon on the screen. The display of the time, speed, and travel direction are nice touches, too. I'm not crazy about how the unit looks from the front of the car, strapped onto the stock mirror like it is, but when you are in the car it looks totally stock and high-end.

One small complaint is that there is no tint adjustment for the screen, which are quite blue, IMHO. It would be nice to warm up the hue a bit with an adjustment.

Very impressed with this dashcam, especially for the price, and feel safer knowing the other vehicles driving near me are on screen and on video. I highly recommend it.

Buy it!!!

Needed a new dash cam for my work van, Chevy Express 2500 and very happy I purchased the wolfbox.

My van has a solid diver between the cab and the cargo area so my view is restricted to drivers and passengers windows and side view mirrors only which makes it very hard to see vehicles in blind spots when changing lanes. I have almost side swiped vehicles a few times now but now with the rear cam on all the time and the wide angle of the rear cam I can see all vehicles in my blind spots. The picture quality is very clear on both front and rear cams day or night, I record in 2k at 1 min loop as it is more than enough to for clear video quality and storage on the SD card and glare from headlights at night time driving is not bad as I have seen from other reviews. Wolfbox is a definitely a must buy if you value safety when while driving.

Pros...

- Easy setup

- Amazing video quality

- Easy to navigate settings

- Amazing field of view wide angle rear cam

Cons...

- Rear cam is zoomed so will throw off depth perception as object will appear closer when backing up but great while driving and you will get use to over time. This could possibly be fixed by repositioning the rear cam in a different location to top instead of near license plate... will tackle a different day when I have time.

- Wish there was an option to zoom in and out of the rear cam.

Excellent for what it is. No app. Not a great “mirror”.

I originally got this because I thought it was dash/backup cam that was passively a rear view mirror while it was off. Which it kind of is but is to dim of a reflection to be adequate for that use. That and a few other things are my reasons for the lack of 5 stars.

It took me about 2 hours to install without looking at the instructions at all. If you have even the slightest mechanical abilities you should have no problem. Very easy. What took the most time is being careful with trim and clips.

This seems to be a pretty good quality device with very clear images. Minimal glare even in direct sunlight. I wouldnt necessarily recommend this for vehicles that have buttons on the factory mirror. But other than that it was very universal. The rear camera can but flipped and inverted in the settings so it’s pretty versatile with the mounting profile also. Another neat function is that the parking lines on the back up screen are adjustable in the settings. Time/DLS , sensitivities, brightness, recording length, and much more can be adjusted in the setting. Also has a speed warning setting.

The gps function, I thought would allow me to fallow on an app on my phone (in case of theft or emergency), but it only records the positions and routes on to the as card.

After touching quite a bit with dirty hands the screen impressively shows no smudges when it’s on.

Shuts down randomly without restarting...Updated

The picture quality is very good...if it is actually recording. I've tried different cards, all "high or pro endurance" grade, between 32gb, 64gb, and 128gb, and the camera stops recording randomly. The recording indicator in the top left corner will sometimes show it stopped, and other times show that is still recording when it isn't. I bought the Wolfbox to replace a Toguard mirror cam that did not have the same resolution and picture quality. I seldom drive my vehicle in which this was installed, so I'm a couple of weeks outside the return window. I have reinstalled my old 7" Toguard and am not looking forward to replacing the Wolfbox unit. Looks like I'm headed for Wolfbox customer service hell to get my refurbished unit as a replacement (if I'm lucky).

Update: 10/6/22 Wolfbox customer service sent me a NEW (not refurbished) replacement mirror cam, received it this morning. Unfortunately, this camera had the same problem of either freezing at the 4 or 6 second frame of the first video clip, and randomly rebooting. I tried changing various settings with the same results. Then, I decided to test it at the 720p setting (never tried this with the first cam), reformatted the card, and it didn't freeze! After several minutes and the cam still operating, changed to the 1080p setting and reformatted, and it still continued to operate. Finally went back to the factory setting (1296p) and the cam has operated without shutting down for a few hours. I have a F-150 pickup that I trickle charge (the power points are always live), so I'm letting it run overnight to ensure that it will fill and overwrite a 128gb microSD card. This might be premature, but I posted this in hopes that someone else out there can benefit from this experience. I find it hard to believe that I purchased the only two dashcams in the last two months which randomly freeze or shut down. I'm bumping the review up two stars for Wolfbox's customer service response.

Update: 10/24/22 I finally gave up and accepted Wolfbox customer service's offer to accept return of the g840s because I was unable to completely resolve the screen/recording freeze issues. I have decided to go with a windshield mounted mini dashcam, their D07S. The large screen and easier accessibility of the mirror dashcam is tempting but these are overkill for my needs since I am only interested in front recording. I commend Wolfbox customer service, Rosie reached out to me and went above and beyond what I have ever experienced in support for a product.

For the money, this is BAD A$$!!!! IT DOES record BOTH front and REAR!! See video...

***Updating my Review***

February 16th, 2024….camera worked great for 2 years and 3 months, but today, while driving, the lithium ion battery expanded rapidly (blew) up while driving…shattering the glass and popping it of the mount….other drawback I noticed, it did burn up 2 SD cards in that time as well…I’m older, so I’ve learned that newer items don’t last as long as they used to….but, had it exploded while driving, could have been much worse.

FOR THE MONEY, THIS IS ONE BAD A$$ CAMERA! I’M BUYING ANOTHER ONE FOR MY 1989 944S2….

If you know what you are doing with the install kit, great! If not, have professional do it-don;'t give it a bad review!! I have an extended full size VAN, and cables ARE long enough! If not, get the extension cable!

Get the permanent install kit, again, have a professional install it if you can't!

WATCH THE VIDEO, hope it helps some…..

HOW TO FIND YOUR front AND REAR RECORDINGS AND SCREENSHOTS!!!

It DOES RECORD FRONT AND REAR OUT OF THE BOX!!!!!

If you have the rear camera plugged in, it will RECORD AUTOMATICALLY (there is no setting in the menu)!

If you have it set at 1296 resolution, it WILL NOT RECORD REAR because the rear camera only has a resolution of 1080…..

If you are going to record FRONT and REAR, get a 128 SD card to record in 1080, otherwise, to test it out, set it to 720/1080.

IT DOES SCREENSHOT BOTH FRONT AND REAR:

As long as both cameras are connected.

Instructions SUCK, and you have to think/look outside the box…I’m an engineer and it took me an hour…looking for a ‘car with headlights’ mentioned in some of the reviews at the bottom left….

Basic features difficult to access/use

** Feel free to read my whole review, but I've just taken it down to one star because the system has completely stopped working. Sometimes I can get the screen on, but it doesn't recognize the memory card and won't record even if I can get it powered up, so... **

Note: I include power consumption/current draw info at the end of my review.

I wrote this review two hours ago as a three star. Then I went and tried to install the rear view camera. Now it's a two star review. I'll explain below.

So, I'm six months into owning my dash cam. I like it, but it has recently caused me problems. The install of the basic camera was very simple, but I only plugged in the device/front cam itself, not the rear cameras or GPS. I really like having it, and have even provided video of a car hitting a motorcycle thanks to having this guy in my truck, BUT there are some problems.

1) In the last month and a half the screen has started turning itself on while the truck is parked, which increases the power consumption considerably and has killed my new $250 battery several times already, and left me without the use of my truck several times. Not happy. I just had to go spend $55 on jumper cables to get my truck going today because I really needed to get across town and pick something up. This wasn't a problem the first 4.5 months of ownership, but now if I leave my truck sitting for a few days, it's dead. Totally dead. ** Update: during the colder seasons the screen would turn itself on almost constantly, within one to ten seconds of me pushing the button to turn it off, independent of if the vehicle is parked or driving **

2) Many may wonder, why not use the power saving mode of parking monitor? Well, you have to buy a different accessory for that to work, item B081TY3H7T. It's a device that plugs into the fuse slots inside your fuse panel, grabbing one battery power source and one ignition switch powered source. Since nobody can tell me how this device communicates to the camera that the vehicle is off rather than just being a power adapter, and the product description itself doesn't even tell me what makes it any different than using the power source provided with the camera, then I'm not buying it. If I spend that $20 and the feature still doesn't work, then I'm just out another $20 and more time. I also don't want to increase the amount of wiring needed in the truck to make this product work. Parking mode seems like a feature that should have been build into the device functionality anyway, just like the GPS functionality should have been.

3) The GPS feature fails, like all the time. About a third of the time the GPS shows as speed of 0 shown in red text, as you can see in the pictures ** update, the gps function fails almost all the time now, working only about 5% of the time **. The second photo you can see my speedometer not at zero, but the camera has the red error rather than an actual vehicle speed. So, if I get a ticket there's a very high chance my speedometer feature won't be captured accurately on the camera so I cannot defend myself in court. Also, you have to mount an external GPS device to get any feedback of vehicle speed and direction, and to my understanding this also sets the power off feature so the camera knows when you park and doesn't run 24/7 with the vehicle off. Again, it is unclear if the GPS device or the $20 additional accessory from item 2 actually creates the power off functionality. This should be more clear. I also can't find any instructions online about how to orient the GPS unit, or if it needs to be mounted upside down, like some do.

4) The rear view camera installation.... In concept, simple, right? Plug and play? Almost. The device does not have the ability to flip the rearview camera image, so you HAVE to mount the camera with the sticky base pointing up. No option otherwise. There are zero provisions for having to install the camera with the sticky side down, which is required for installation on a truck, because there's no body panel hanging over the truck bed to stick this thing to. There are two mounting brackets included, but they are poorly designed in the sense that you can't actually functionally use them. One is a two-piece design, hinged in the middle, and it could be used to mount the camera under a vertical panel of some kind, but you'd have to have the bracket at a 90 degree angle to do so, sticking out from the truck body, meaning the panel you're mounting to has a black metal square stuck to it just over the camera as well, all of which looks terrible and will likely vibrate loose. They could have designed the bracket to be hidden behind the camera, but the mounting screw tabs on the bracket define exactly how you have to use it. The other single piece bracket is like that, hidden behind the camera, but the mounting screw tabs are too close to the flat portion of the bracket, so the cord coming out of the back of the camera pushes the camera up, making the view from the cameras perspective not useful. Additionally, the included cable for the camera/backup light is 20 ft long, but it's not long enough to reach the rear bumper on my truck (2001 silverado extended cab). If you plan to route the cable under the trim and around the cab to do a proper installation, the cable is about 15 feet too short. 33 ft extension cable is B082RZNJFY, $15, and the 50 ft extension cable is B0814ZHHST, $17. All of this to say, I have to find a way to make a custom mount for this to work on my truck. The only place I can see that will actually work and look halfway decent is if I actually screw one of these brackets into my tailgate handle so I can hang the camera below it, giving up about a 1/3 of my tailgate handle, looking ridiculous, and having to route this cable through the moving action of my tailgate hinges. Down to two star review because of this lack of design and functional quality. They offer the ability to mirror the image, just not flip it to mount the camera the other way. How ridiculous.

5) The navigation of saved files is not intuitive, at all. You also cannot fast forward or rewind in a given video file, you have to watch it start to finish without interruption, so you'll want to make certain that your files are configured to be 1 minute long, not two or three. I set the cameras and GPS unit up on my bench to test the power consumption and even after giving the device time to recognize no movement, it did not power off and continued to consume as much power as it did before.

6) The G-sensor, which is advertised as being built into the camera, doesn't seem very effective. I set the camera on a washing machine and jolted the machine pretty aggressively without getting a response from the camera or any notification. I'm not sure what the parameters are for this feature to work, but the GPS unit was plugged in as well, and the camera had been sitting idle for several minutes with the screen off.

7) With a 32GB card and just using the single front camera set to 1080P, you only get about five hours of record time. That may seem like a lot, but think about if your camera runs while your vehicle is off, or you forget to save the file after an accident, or you hit the lock button, but the file with the recorded incident actually had just ended before you pushed the button, but you didn't know that until more than five hours later and now the file is overwritten? All of these have happened in my time using this camera. I had someone break into my shed and steal my generator while the truck cam was pointing that direction, but it was overwritten before I woke up the next morning. I would suggest getting a larger card, or a camera that actually works in parking mode or motion detection mode (if your future camera has this feature). Parking mode does not work on this product.

The good:

Screen resolution is pretty good.

Audio is pretty good.

The ability to review on the screen is handy, though honestly it would be easier to use and navigate if it paired with your phone like some other dash cams on the market.

The bad:

Aside from being a simple camera and microphone setup it fails in literally every single feature. Every one of them.

Power consumption from 13.5v power supply:

Unable to test in powered down mode or parking mode, because I can't get them to work -

Front cam only, no GPS, screen off - 185 mA

Front cam only, no GPS, screen on bright/dim - 405 mA/268 mA

Front cam only, GPS plugged in, screen off - 200 mA

Front cam only, GPS plugged in, screen on bright/dim - 435 mA/285 mA

Both cams, no GPS, screen off - 305 mA

Both cams, no GPS, screen on bright/dim - 550 mA/400 mA

Both cams, GPS plugged in, screen off - 325 mA

Both cams, GPS plugged in, screen on bright/dim - 640 mA/450 mA

Had a lot of fun things with this camera

UPDATED 7/19/2021

Been using the dashcam camera for more than a year! Still in love with it... except for one thing: the camera seems to use too much electricity from my car's battery in parking timelapse mode. Most of the time my car needs to shut it off automatically to protect the car's battery from being empty. Maybe the battery capacity of my car is not large (Volkswagen Jetta 2019) and thankfully it has an auto shut-off feature but be aware that it could potentially drain out of your car battery in timelapse mode!

Anyway, I decided to buy a second one for my friend's car and going to install it this weekend.

[Original review]

I have been using multiple dashcam cameras for +8 years and mirror dashcam camera for about 5 years. This is the best I have ever had. Instead of relisting the features that were mentioned in other reviews, I would like to highlight the valued features that make this camera superior to its competitors.

1. Timelapse feature: typically a dashcam would protect you on the road, but with this feature, it protects you while the car is parked as well. If you hard wired (B081TY3H7T) the camera to your car fuse box which provided a constant power, whenever you turn off the car, the camera will go into timelapse mode which takes a frame (or more) per second and save them to a video file. Imagine how you would benefit from this feature. If someone bumped into your parking car, you would have a proof! And it acts as a secret security camera too!

2. GPS: they have nice software to replay your recorded video with the location of your car on a map, side by side. The GPS info was embedded into the MOV file so if you like programming, you can extract the GPS data from the MOV to show all the roads you had been on during a trip (see my photos).

3. Nice screen saver mode: you can put your mirror into a mode that only show your heading direction, speed, and time if you just want to use it as a normal mirror (the video is still recording, of course). It feels like you get a luxury mirror from expensive cars.

4. Speed notification: you can set the mirror so that it will give a beep to warn you when you are driving over a certain speed you can set beforehand. This would potentially help you avoid speeding tickets when you don't know that you actually drive too fast. The speed the mirror calculates from the GPS signal of is pretty accurate by the way.

5. Customer service: they have the best customer service I have ever known you would expect from a Chinese based company. Kudos for you, Wolfbox!

Some cons I could see though:

1. There is no way to turn off speed display without unplugging the GPS module.

2. The Lane Departure Warning is not working consistently. Sometime it gives out a warning beep for no reasons.

3. Sometimes it takes a while (5-10 mins) to lock down the GPS satellites even though the sky was clear with no obstructions.

Several things I don't know since I have been using the camera for only 1 month:

1. How well it could handle with hot temperature in the summer. My previously used camera turns off because it was too hot inside my car.

UPDATE May 23, 2020: It looks like when the temperature inside the car was too hot, the camera automatically turned off the Timelapse.

UPDATED 7/19/2021: I think the problem came from my car, not because the camera was too hot. My car battery was automatically shut off to avoid being empty after using it in +6 hours in timelapse (parking) mode.

2. In the timelapse mode, it has to work 24/24h so it would shorten the life of the camera. Let's wait to see how durable the camera is.

UPDATED 7/19/2021: it's still working!

Other than that, I'm very happy with this purchase (after testing a couple of other cameras).
