Clear sound and easy setup for violin gigs
I’ve been using the U9 for a while now, and I really like the value it provides. Both the transmitter and receiver have built-in rechargeable batteries, so I don’t have to keep a stash of AA’s around. They charge over USB-C, which is convenient, and a full charge lasts me about five hours. Charging does take a bit, so I make sure to top them up the night before a show.
The receiver comes with an XLR connection, but I liked that they included a 1/4-inch adapter. That made it easy to run straight into my pedalboard and interface when recording. The transmitter is tiny, and the mic element locks in securely but still lets me angle it exactly where I want over the instrument. The spring-loaded clamp snaps right onto my violin without scratching, thanks to the padding, and it feels stable even when I’m moving around.
Finding a clear channel hasn’t been a problem as there are six to choose from in the 2.4 GHz range, so I’ve always been able to avoid interference. Everything fits neatly in the included case, and the dual USB-C cable charges both the mic and the receiver at the same time. I also like that it comes with two windshields for outdoor playing.
Sound-wise, I was impressed. I tested it side-by-side with a high-quality diaphragm mic, and the tone held up really well. For me, it’s been a reliable and affordable solution for both live shows and recording, without the usual cable clutter.
